00:00Hello, the movie is here. Today we are doing a review of a movie from 2019 called Joker.
00:07The movie starts in Gotham City, where we find Arthur Fleck in the office of his company getting ready for work,
00:13that is, he is putting on makeup and advertising for fun. While looking at his reflection in the mirror,
00:17he puts two fingers in his mouth and turns them several times up and down, while one of them is drawn out of the picture.
00:23A few moments later, we find him on the street dancing while promoting the store that hired him as a sign.
00:29Suddenly, some children come and take his sign and run away from him.
00:33Arthur chases them through the city and catches them waiting in the street,
00:37where the children continue to break the inscription on his head, and after he falls to the ground,
00:41they start hitting him with their feet and hands. After work, Arthur goes to his therapist.
00:47He laughs for a few seconds, and after commenting on how difficult things are,
00:51the therapist asks him if he worked on his diary.
00:54He gives her the diary, saying that he uses it as a diary, but also as a diary of a joke,
00:59because he continues his career in stand-up comedy.
01:02The therapist walks through the pages and finds some disturbing words.
01:06I just hope my death makes more sense than my life.
01:10She returns the diary to Arthur and asks him how he feels coming to this meeting.
01:14Arthur says he felt better when he was in the hospital and remembers how he knew how to hit his head against the door of his room.
01:20The therapist asks him if the doctor can give him more pills, and she tells him that he already has 7.
01:25Arthur replies that he no longer wants to feel bad.
01:28When the therapy is over, Arthur leaves by bus.
01:31The child sitting in front of him looks at him, so he starts making him funny faces that don't go to his mother.
01:36Arthur suddenly starts laughing, and his mother is upset about it,
01:40and he gives her a card that explains that he is laughing because of his neurological condition.
01:44After leaving the bus, he returns to the pharmacy to take the pills before he goes home.
01:49Inside the building, he checks the mailbox, and then goes to his apartment, where he lives with his mother, Penny Fleck.
01:55She asks him if they got any mail, and when he says they didn't,
01:59she asks if Thomas Vane, her former employer, received her letter.
02:03Arthur reminds her that Vane is a really busy man and persuades her to eat.
02:07After giving her food, they join her in bed so that they could watch the talk show of Maria Franklin together.
02:13Arthur starts dreaming and imagines himself in Franklin's audience,
02:17whose driver hears him and asks him to get up.
02:19Arthur introduces himself and tells him how he worries about his mother,
02:23which Franklin respects, so he begs him to get up,
02:25and Arthur does that while enjoying the crowd.
02:28When he gets to Franklin, the driver tells him to get up from television and fame
02:32when he has a child like Arthur, and then he hugs him.
02:35Returning to reality, Arthur laughs in this little dream.
02:38The next day at work, we can see that Arthur's body is covered with bruises.
02:42His colleague Randall comes up to him, and after telling him that he heard about the kidnapping,
02:46he decides to give Arthur a gun.
02:48The other colleague, Gary, interrupts them to tell Arthur that their boss is looking for him.
02:53Arthur goes to see him in his office, and we say that they took another bribe from him
02:57because he disappeared and didn't return the badge.
02:59Arthur explains that he was kidnapped, but his boss doesn't believe him,
03:02because no one would steal the badge.
03:04The boss tells him that he will have to withdraw a part of the money from his salary,
03:08and then continues to beat Arthur, who is silent and laughs.
03:11But after the meeting is over, he leaves frustrated and shuts the door behind the garbage.
03:16Later that day, when he returns to his apartment, Arthur is in the elevator with his neighbor,
03:20Sophie Dumond, and her daughter.
03:22When the elevator stops for a moment, Sophie comments that the building is incredibly ugly
03:26and makes a gesture with her hand, pretending to shoot herself in the head.
03:30Arthur laughs, and when they get to their desk and get out of the elevator,
03:33he returns them the gesture of shooting.
03:35A few moments later, Arthur bathes Penny.
03:38He constantly asks about the letters, because he thinks that Wayne was a good man,
03:42who wouldn't like to see them in this condition.
03:44Arthur begs him not to worry about the money,
03:46because his stand-up show will soon look like a big club.
03:49Penny says that she thought you had to be funny to be a comedian.
03:52A few hours later, after putting his mother in bed,
03:55Arthur watches a movie and practices with his new gun.
03:58When the song starts playing on TV, he starts dancing with her,
04:02while pretending to talk to the girl,
04:04but accidentally shoots from the gun and makes a hole in the wall.
04:07His mother wakes up and asks about the hole,
04:09and he tells her that it's just a war movie on TV.
04:12The next day, Arthur follows Sophie around the city, and even in public transport.
04:16In the evening, he goes to watch a stand-up show to make notes,
04:19which he continues to work on when he returns home later and writes.
04:23The worst part of mental illness is that people expect you to act like you don't have it.
04:28His writing breaks the bell on the door,
04:30and Arthur opens the door to find Sophie.
04:32She asks him if he followed her around, which he confirms,
04:35so he asks if he wants to rob her apartment.
04:37He says he could do it now,
04:39and she laughs before he says he's a ghost,
04:42which led Arthur to invite her to his stand-up show.
04:45Sophie accepts the invitation before leaving.
04:47The next day, Arthur works as a clown in a hospital entertaining children.
04:50During his performance, his gun falls on the floor.
04:53He quickly picks it up and asks the children to keep it a secret.
04:56But later in the evening, while talking on the phone with his boss,
05:00he is angry because of this incident.
05:02Arthur tries to convince him that the gun was just a prop,
05:05but his boss doesn't believe him and tells him that Randall told him
05:08that he tried to buy a gun from him last week.
05:10Arthur gets a rejection and, frustrated,
05:12hits the glass of the phone booth with his head.
05:15After that, he leaves the underground railway station and goes home.
05:18In the same car as him, there are three guys in clothes that annoy the young woman.
05:22When Arthur suddenly starts laughing, the woman gets up and leaves,
05:25and one of the guys starts singing Sand in the Clowns,
05:28while the three of them approach him.
05:30They take him by the collar and take his bag, asking why he is laughing,
05:33but when he tries to explain and take his things back,
05:36they grab him and hit him with their feet,
05:38and then throw him on the floor to keep hitting him.
05:41This time, Arthur defends himself, takes out his gun and shoots the two men.
05:45The third one runs away and leaves the car when the subway stops at the station.
05:49Arthur follows him and shoots him when they reach the stairs.
05:52When he hears Arthur's call, he realizes what he did and runs away from the station.
05:56He runs down the streets and enters the toilet of the local park.
05:59There, after a moment of panic, he starts dancing.
06:03A few moments later, he returns to his building.
06:06He knocks on Sophie's door, and as soon as she opens it, he goes inside and starts kissing her.
06:11The doors close behind them, implying that they will spend the night together.
06:15The next day, Arthur goes to his workplace to pick up all his things
06:19and hears his colleagues talking about the news about the clown
06:22who shot three men in the underground station.
06:25They also try to tell him some words of sympathy,
06:28including Randall, whose duality irritates Arthur,
06:31so he tells everyone that his gun committed the crime.
06:34Before leaving, Arthur hits the clock that measures the working time,
06:37which falls on the floor and breaks.
06:39At the exit, he looks at the sign, does not forget to laugh,
06:42and crosses two words, turning him into Don't laugh.
06:45Returning to his apartment, after drinking the last few pills,
06:48Arthur joins his mother to watch TV.
06:51Thomas Vane is on the news because the employees of his company were killed.
06:54When his driver asks him about his opinion against the rich man,
06:57Vane says he was thinking about running for mayor to fix it,
07:01and when he was asked about the murder, he says it makes sense that he wore a clown mask
07:05because he was a puppet who wanted to hide his face.
07:08He thinks that all the people who do nothing with their lives are clowns.
07:12A few days later, Arthur comes back to his therapist.
07:15He tries to say that he finally feels like he exists,
07:18and people have begun to notice him,
07:20but she interrupts him by telling him that the government has reduced their funding,
07:23so this is their last meeting.
07:25When he asks her who he will have to talk to for the pills,
07:28she has nothing to say but words of reproach.
07:30Later in the evening, Arthur is at the bar,
07:32waiting for his turn to present his stand-up routine.
07:35Sophie is in the audience.
07:36When his time comes, he goes out on the stage and begins to laugh uncontrollably,
07:41and when he finally manages to read some jokes from his notes,
07:44they fall into the water.
07:45After the show, he leaves the bar with Sophie,
07:48and while they walk together, he sees that the newspapers have published clown faces with news of murders,
07:53which makes him happy, especially when Sophie comments that the clown is a hero.
07:56When the car passes by, Arthur also notices that someone is wearing a clown mask,
08:00similar to the drawings in the newspapers.
08:02After dinner with Sophie, he returns to his apartment,
08:04where his mother fell asleep in front of the TV.
08:06He wakes her up and takes her to bed,
08:08and she tells him that she wrote a new letter to him before she went to her room.
08:12Arthur decides to grab the letter to read it,
08:14and finds out that he is Wayne's illegitimate son,
08:16which makes him furious.
08:18He is afraid of his reaction, so he locks himself in the bathroom and reads on,
08:22explaining that he and Wayne were in love,
08:24but they had to break up, and she couldn't say anything because she signed some contracts.
08:28The next day, Arthur reads the newspaper in the car,
08:31and finds a picture of Wayne's family,
08:33which he removes and puts in his notebook.
08:35A few moments later, he visits Wayne's residence,
08:38where young Bruce Wayne is playing in the garden.
08:40The kid approaches the door when Arthur comes closer,
08:42and starts doing some tricks for him,
08:44but Bruce is not impressed.
08:46After asking him for his name,
08:48Arthur reaches through the door and puts his finger in Bruce's mouth to make him laugh.
08:52He is surprised that Alfred interrupts them,
08:54who pushes Bruce aside and threatens to call the police.
08:57Arthur tells him that he is Penny's son,
08:59and that he wants to see Mr. Wayne because he knows everything.
09:02Alfred replies that his mother is lost, and they laugh.
09:05Very angry, Arthur again reaches through the door and tries to crush him,
09:09but he lets him go when he looks at Bruce.
09:11When he arrives home in the evening,
09:13he meets the hospital staff who take his mother to the hospital,
09:15and they get in a car to come with her.
09:17A few hours later, while waiting in front of the hospital,
09:20two policemen come to Arthur.
09:22They talked about Penny because she might have had a stroke,
09:25and now they want to interrogate Arthur about the murder of the Underground Railroad.
09:28He tells them that the gun was just a prop to him before he returned to his mother.
09:32Sophie makes him a company in his room.
09:34After she leaves, Arthur puts on Franklin's show on TV,
09:37and hurts him when he sees that the cutouts of his show are giving proteins to make him laugh.
09:42Later, when they return to their apartment,
09:44the TV shows that people are protesting while wearing clown masks,
09:47because Wayne called them clowns.
09:49Arthur decides to join these protests,
09:51and when he arrives, he uses the gap between the policemen and the civilians
09:55to sneak into the cinema where Wayne is currently located.
09:58He steals the uniform of one of the employees,
10:00and dresses him up to enter the theater,
10:02watching a movie, and at the same time keeping an eye on Wayne.
10:05When he leaves his room, Arthur follows him to the bathroom,
10:08and argues with him about Penny.
10:10Wayne says that she was crazy, and that he never touched her.
10:13Arthur is actually adopted.
10:14Arthur doesn't believe it, and gets angry, which makes him laugh.
10:17Wayne hits him because of that before he leaves.
10:19When Arthur returns to his apartment,
10:21he ignores the call of the police and enters the fridge to spend the night in it.
10:25The next day, he receives a call from Franklin's production
10:28asking if he wanted to appear on the show, and he obviously accepts.
10:31After that, he takes the bus to the state hospital in Arkham,
10:34where he asks for his mother's file.
10:36The officer confirms that she was psychotic and hurt her child,
10:39but can't give Arthur's file, so he steals it and runs away with it to read it.
10:44The file confirms that Arthur is adopted, and that Penny lied about Wayne.
10:47She also chased Arthur away, along with the violent man who was later arrested.
10:51Incredibly, with the news of the news, Arthur returns home,
10:54and unannounced enters Sophie's apartment.
10:57When Sophie finds him, she gets scared and begs him to go,
11:00and as Arthur remembers the time they spent together,
11:03we find out that it was all his imagination.
11:05The next day, when he visits Penny,
11:07they say that his life is a comedy, not a tragedy,
11:10before he chokes her with an ice cream.
11:12Later, Arthur returns home and gets ready for the show.
11:15After he practices what he will say,
11:17he paints his hair green and starts to put on makeup,
11:20but he is interrupted by a doorbell.
11:22He grabs the scissors and hides them in his pants
11:24before he opens the door to find Gary and Randall,
11:27who come to visit him after hearing about Penny's death.
11:30Randall is forbidden, because the police interrogated the clowns,
11:33and Arthur has his own gun.
11:35Arthur answers by stabbing him in the back and hitting him.
11:38Gary goes crazy and wants to leave,
11:40and Arthur lets him go without hurting him,
11:42because he was the only one who was kind to him.
11:44After he changes into his new clothes,
11:46Arthur leaves for the show, and the police find him on the street.
11:49He starts running and enters an underground station
11:52that is full of people protesting and walking with clown masks.
11:55The police follow him there, jumping from vehicle to vehicle,
11:58and when Arthur is stolen by a clown mask,
12:00he calls for help.
12:02In the whole crowd, the police accidentally shoot civilians,
12:05so when the train stops at the station,
12:07everyone jumps on the police,
12:09allowing Arthur to escape unnoticed.
12:11A few moments later, he arrives at the studio.
12:13While waiting in the dressing room,
12:15Franklin comes to check on him and ask him to come to the show.
12:18Arthur accepts and promises that his makeup is not politically motivated,
12:22and also asks to be presented as a joker.
12:24Shortly after that, they call him to the platform where the clown enters.
12:28After he kissed one of the guests,
12:30and once again convinced them that his makeup is not political,
12:33he tries to tell a story about death,
12:35which is why people hate him,
12:37and then he admits that he is a murderer in the underground,
12:39because there is nothing more to lose.
12:41After a long talk about the system that distrusts small people,
12:43and how Franklin is the same because he brought him to the show
12:45to make him laugh, Arthur shoots him.
12:47After the transfer is over, Arthur is arrested by the police.
12:50While he is taken away by police car,
12:52he sees all the mess on the streets,
12:54with people wearing clown masks.
12:56He calls all this very nice,
12:58and the car suddenly hits a ambulance,
13:00and the hitman knocks him out.
13:02The Protestant who was driving the ambulance
13:04goes out and finds Arthur,
13:06and with the help of other masked people,
13:08he takes him out of the car and puts him on the hood.
13:10Meanwhile, in the other part of the city,
13:12the Viennese leave the scene when one of the Protestants follows.
13:16After he told the Viennese that he deserves it,
13:18he shoots him and his wife,
13:20leaving a small bruise with the bodies of his parents.
13:23Arthur wakes up and sees the Protestants
13:25dancing and screaming for him,
13:27so Arthur stops at the top of the car
13:29to dance for them.
13:31When he notices that his blood is coming out of his nose,
13:33he smiles at her.
13:35A few days later, we discover that Arthur
13:37was sent to the state hospital Arkham.
13:39While the therapist checks him,
13:41he starts laughing,
13:43so she asks him what is so funny,
13:45but he answers that she would not understand,
13:47and he starts singing,
13:49which ends with Arthur seeing himself
13:51coming out of the room and dancing in the hallway,
13:53leaving bloody footprints.
