00:00The fans are filing in to Corcoran Hall, but we're going to get started a little bit early
00:25tonight on the road to destruction. Young Lion, singles action in the kickoff here as we're going to see.
00:37Daiki Nagai in one corner and he will face a generational rival in the making, Masatori Yasuda.
00:45Welcome to the broadcast, I'm Chris Charlton. We'll get underway officially at the bottom of
00:58the hour, but this is an extra little bonus that we'll be seeing here. Daiki Nagai and Masatori
01:05Yasuda started their careers opposite one another back in June in Hokkaido in the New Japan Soul Tour
01:13and they will be tied together. One would assume almost forever as a snug old pair
01:20tie up there. Yasuda having the upper hand, but Nagai forcing him into the ropes. This their first
01:28meeting here in Corcoran Hall, so everything hits a little bit different inside this building
01:35and we'll see a connection forged between these two men and the audience. It's the first time
01:41I've actually got to see these guys in person in combat at least. 0-0 and 6 the current score
01:50between them thanks to a non-televised meeting in Nagoya and then last night in Yamanashi. That's
02:00about all I'm going to give you from the results last night in Yamanashi. It was a great event.
02:06Shingo Takagi's 20th anniversary jam-packed and sold out in IMSA Yamanashi. It was a live
02:12broadcast in Japanese. Our pal Walker Stewart will be putting the commentary in post for that,
02:18so I'm going to stay spoiler free throughout the night for those who haven't caught it yet.
02:25Nice escape by Yasuda bridging backwards.
02:29I will say though that it was Nagai and Yasuda going to a draw on the kickoff last night
02:34in a match that was mostly Daiki Nagai's. Nagai having to come up from underneath now with a nice
02:40groin stretch there from Yasuda who makes the transition. Certainly Nagai has improved
02:47in my book at least in terms of the amount of aggression he was showing in the ring. Just
02:52has to put those little pieces together. Everything in pro wrestling is about the
02:57in-betweens, about the timing there. That's a nice transition and comes up with the legs.
03:04Yasuda had the advantage in terms of being some years Daiki Nagai's senior and experience-wise
03:13as well. Actually entered the New Japan Dojo in 2019 which would have put him as a contemporary
03:20of guys like Yuya Uemura and Yota Tsuji but sustained an injury and went away from pro
03:28wrestling a little bit. Came back in, shoulders down, gets one from referee Sakamoto there.
03:35And he also has pro wrestling in his blood. Mexican father, Japanese mother, grew up in
03:42Hokkaido. Technically a second generation wrestler is Yasuda and a reversal of that groin stretch
03:52now applied by Nagai. He doesn't want to outstay his welcome on that groin stretch in transitions.
03:57A little scarf on there. Yasuda gets up to his feet here.
04:04Main card action will be underway at half past the hour. NJPW World Television Championship.
04:10Our main event, Yota Tsuji. Happy birthday to Tsuji by the way. We'll be challenging Jeff Cobb
04:15and we'll see if he comes away with a birthday gift at the NJPW World TV Championship. And you're
04:21seeing here again Nagai just having a little bit more of Yasuda than vice versa over the last
04:28couple of meetings. Stayed with the hold. Now comes up with the arm. It was the arm and the
04:37shoulder that Nagai was aggressively working over yesterday in fact. But Yasuda this time escaping.
04:44Comes up with a single leg. We're about, the next call we hear will be the halfway mark. Just 10
04:50minutes on the clock. And we see countless times back in Nagai, guys like Yoh and Sho,
05:01Tsuji and Uemura. They'll wrestle one another time and time and time again. A lot of those times will
05:06be time limit draws. And the key thing will be who gets that first result because typically
05:15it sets them in good stead going into their excursions and beyond.
05:19It's not there but a nice escape and comes up with a hamlock.
05:26A ripple of applause from the Korakuen crowd.
05:32Korakuen still fighting it. We're going to have a capacity crowd by the time everybody's in here.
05:37So a little bit early with this bonus action here and it's Nagai coming up with a hamlock.
05:42I feel in these last couple of meetings Nagai has definitely had
05:46the advantage. If you were going to give anybody the match on points it would be Nagai. Yasuda
05:52though. Nice double trip and now back into that leg lock here. Won't make Nagai submit though.
06:02He'll come up with a heel hook there.
06:10Just coming up to five minutes on the clock.
06:16There's the call from Abe-san.
06:21Oh and Yasuda's found his spot there. Going to go to the knee and now
06:24and Achilles hold there.
06:31Nagai going to try and break that one. Nice little extra bit of talk. A little bit of extra
06:37transition. We often talk about it with Zack Sabre Jr. Six seconds. You need to talk something.
06:43You need to apply some more pressure. You need to transition into something else. Zack Sabre Jr.
06:47by the way will be my guest on Color Commentary tomorrow. Very excited for that one to have the
06:52G1 Climax winner here right with us. I know Zack Sabre Jr. and Callum Newman as well who'll be my
06:59guest tonight. Very excited for Royal Quest. We'll have lots of information about international
07:04events coming up all the way through this broadcast as well as how you can be a part
07:10of Wrestle Kingdom 19 and Wrestle Dynasty in the Tokyo Dome.
07:14You can do. I can do better says Yasuda who has now really dedicated his focus now onto that left
07:27leg. You saw how Nagai was transitioning from one thing to another. Hadn't really settled on
07:32one body part. Yasuda has definitely done just that. After perhaps a little bit of a shaky start
07:39now really has found his groove here. Next time call you hear will be three minutes left
07:47remaining in the match.
07:54He might not need that time call as Nagai is stretching and now
08:01makes it to that bottom rope. Good work by Yasuda. Good stuff.
08:06Nice job there. Keeping a hold in. You keep that hold on you on your opponent until you're told
08:14under threat of disqualification by the referee to break it. Staying there now. Nice singular focus.
08:21Again back to the Achilles hold. Very nicely done.
08:24Walking all the way down the leg and Nagai having to do what he can which was so wild.
08:38Forearm shiver there.
08:45Gonna pull him in. Releases the hold. Sort of risk reward there but manages to keep it and
08:51he's gotten the guy really grounded. A long long way away from the ropes does Yasuda.
09:05Just barely making it home is Daiki Nagai. Two minutes left on the clock.
09:12Two to go and Yasuda determined to wear down that left leg. Wants to get a submission here tonight.
09:24Can't afford to pause. A little bit of momentary hesitation. Thought well the guy might throw.
09:29I'll try and cover up or again some of that pride getting into the face of his junior is Yasuda.
09:37Tries to knock him loopy. Oh no and Nagai on the stand up. Two big swats and a drop kick.
09:45Unforced error by Mastori Yasuda who may have had the match won if he was
09:52still on that left leg of Daiki Nagai but Nagai now tries to gut through the pain.
09:58Gonna shoot Yasuda off here. Make him run. Drop kick again.
10:06Not all the height but all the impact. Got the cover. Hook the inside leg and a cover.
10:12Kick out at two. One minute to go of the 10. This is where we'll see both of these men
10:21on the sprint as much as they can be. Body slam here. Yes got it.
10:30And now Yasuda worn down enough for Nagai to try and apply. Turn him.
10:4030 seconds left on the clock and here's the Boston Crab. 30 seconds counting away will feel like an
10:48eternity for Mastori Yasuda. Can he gut it out or better yet make the ropes? Oh pulled dead center.
10:57The rope's not an option. Either you tap out or you last 10 seconds in absolute agony.
11:05Five left on the clock now. Three, two, one and that is it.
11:19A draw as good as a loss for both of these men will feel no satisfaction
11:26with the scoreline of 0-0 and 7.
11:34Nagai pounds the mat in frustration.
11:40And again he can take solace by being in the plus position right where that bell rang.
11:47Another fine effort by both of these men who are improving. Needs some bounds.
11:55Getting the physicals together.
12:01And getting that anger, that heat, that pressure cooker environment that is the Nogai Dojo.
12:09And that pressure is only released once the bell rings. Oh no and now yeah.
12:15Sakamoto aiming to separate these two. Well we'll see them go at it an awful lot more
12:23including on this destruction tour but a fine Corcoran Hall debut for Daiki Nogai versus
12:30Mastori Yasuda. We'll get going with the full card of action coming up at half past the hour
12:36in just over 15 minutes time. You don't want to miss any of it. NJPW World TV Championship on
12:42the line in our main event. Yoda Tsuji versus Jeff Cobb. Shingo Takagi and Hiromu Takahashi
12:47versus Francesco Akira and Hinare. Bushi and Naito. Fujita, ZSJ rather. Taka and Doki will
12:55face Gedo and Taiji Ishimori. All that and more will be coming right back at you at the bottom
13:00of the hour. Road to Destruction right here on NJPW World.
