The mudslinging has already begun as the Liberals fight to keep the state seat of Pittwater on Sydney's Northern Beaches. A councillor caught up in the party's nomination bungle has been selected to contest next month's by-election. But her teal opponent has attacked her for living outside the electorate.

00:00Being nominated has never felt so good for Georgia Ryburn.
00:05Excited?
00:06Yes.
00:07I'm so excited.
00:08I'm so excited.
00:09After the Liberal Party failed to lodge the paperwork to nominate her for Saturday's
00:13council elections, the Northern Beaches Deputy Mayor has been selected to run in the state
00:18seat of Pittwater.
00:19Obviously I was so disappointed when I wasn't able to run for council election, but I'm
00:25very excited to keep delivering for Pittwater.
00:28The seat was vacated a fortnight ago by Rory Amon, who's been charged with child sex offences,
00:34which he denies.
00:35Mr Amon scraped into parliament last year, beating Teal Independent Jackie Scruby by
00:40606 votes.
00:42Last week, the environmental lawyer launched a campaign to finish the job.
00:46People are definitely ready for change.
00:48They're definitely ready for a different way of doing politics.
00:51Both are professionals.
00:53Both are mums.
00:54But only one lives in the electorate on the Insula Peninsula.
00:57So a Liberal Party candidate isn't living amongst our community.
01:01Ms Ryburn, who lives in French's Forest, says she's just down the road from the border.
01:06I'm a fourth generation Beaches local with deep ties across Pittwater.
01:10There's little optimism about winning Pittwater within the Liberal Party, which is also trying
01:15to hang on to the seats of Epping and Hornsby after former Premier Dominic Perrottet and
01:20former Treasurer Matt Keane quit parliament.
01:23It's highly unlikely that we will contest them.
01:25None of those seats have ever been held by a Labor representative.
01:30The three by-elections will be held on October 19th.
