00:00Right now we're going to check in with storm chaser Aaron Jajak who is live in Baton Rouge,
00:04Louisiana where power outages remain. Aaron, you had some intense video at times yesterday
00:10with that wind and the rain, a pretty fierce storm for some. So what was the experience
00:16like for you and what's the status in areas like Baton Rouge as well? Yeah, so yesterday I was down
00:23on the coast there in Duloc, Louisiana just to the south of Houma waiting for that storm to come ashore
00:29and you know just like lots of other hurricanes I've been in, things started gradually and then
00:35flip like a switch was flipped, those strong hurricane force winds started really hammering
00:39the area. Trucked the eye wall north from Duloc, moved in with it until I got to Houma and it
00:46continued to batter Houma for quite a while there. You know, typically with these storms you know
00:51you're it's not like a supercell or a severe weather where it's just real quick, it's over
00:55after a few minutes, you know this is hours of being in a storm especially when you're moving
01:00north with that eye wall and it battered Houma, continued to move to the north through the New
01:05Orleans area and even to southeastern Baton Rouge where I'm actually at now this afternoon where
01:11this morning 100,000 residents woke up without power in this area, mostly in the Ascension
01:17Parish area which is on the southeast side of Baton Rouge. Power lines are down from trees
01:23falling on them and crews have been furiously working here to try and get that power back
01:27online. They're trying to get some lines hot, I talked to some crews down the road trying to get
01:31those lines hot and scouting for where the actual power outages are caught, where they're caused by
01:36so they can send contractors out to get those lines fixed and still now this afternoon I'm
01:40still, I'm sitting at this intersection right here on the interstate where back behind me there's a
01:46some stoplights though, all the stoplights about here around this area are all out, they don't have
01:51any power to get those stoplights working. The gas stations are out here, they're out of gas,
01:54one gas station on the corner here said signs up and they're out of gas, the one I'm standing at
01:59here is offline with power but there is one gas station here that is running, they must be running
02:04a generator and it is very crowded at that gas station so things are trying to get back to normal
02:09here. It should be a pretty quick recovery here in Baton Rouge area, you know they weren't hit
02:13too hard as I looked at some of the data, it looked like they were in the 50 to 60 mile per
02:17hour gust range so minimal damage here but all it takes is a few trees to go down on those power
02:22lines and start causing problems here. Well thanks for that report there Aaron, I know you had a wild
02:29time yesterday, I'm glad things are stabilizing slowly across the area, obviously about 290,000
02:36addresses still without power in the state of Louisiana so it'll be some time there but I know
02:40that Entergy and other utility crews are out doing their thing to get everybody back online. Thanks
