00:00So today, big day, big day in the world of Britney Spears.
00:04It is her youngest son's 18th birthday.
00:08We're talking about Jaden James.
00:10He is living in Hawaii right now with Kevin Federline
00:13and his family.
00:15Britney is in Los Angeles.
00:18And everybody thinks, well, now Sean, now Jaden James.
00:21Sean Preston turned 18 last year.
00:23Now Jaden James is 18.
00:25So that means Britney is, they're all off the books,
00:28right?
00:30No more child support.
00:31Not true.
00:32Not true.
00:33Yep, keep writing the checks, mom.
00:34Here's what we found out.
00:35If you have kids, and if you are in a divorce situation,
00:40this is really interesting.
00:41Because this is common, it turns out.
00:43So the way their child support works
00:48is that it stops when the youngest child turns 18
00:54or when that youngest child graduates from high school,
00:58which ever comes later.
01:01Now Jaden.
01:02That makes sense.
01:03That makes sense, right?
01:04Because the point is you want to pay
01:06to get the kid through school.
01:07And then whatever happens after that,
01:09that's something the parents can work out.
01:11But you shouldn't have to legally support them
01:15anymore beyond that point.
01:16Right.
01:17Now we found out Jaden is going to graduate in November.
01:21It's an early graduation.
01:24So right now, there was kind of a fight going on last month.
01:30And I'm going to get into that in a minute,
01:31because we have a lot of information.
01:33But the bottom line is Brittany will have
01:37to pay October and November.
01:41And then he graduates, and then it stops.
01:43Now this is really interesting.
01:45I haven't even told you this.
01:47When they got divorced and had these two kids,
01:51Brittany was paying Kevin $20,000 a month.
01:55Right.
01:56In 2018.
01:58It went up, right?
01:59It went up.
02:00It doubled, and it doubled partly
02:02because Kevin had the kids pretty much 100% of the time.
02:05And as kids get older, it gets more expensive.
02:09And they were going to go back into court and argue it,
02:12but they settled on the $40,000.
02:15Last month, Brittany has some new management,
02:19and they just decided, we're going to slash it in half.
02:23And so they were all getting ready for a court fight.
02:27And they just paid $20,000.
02:30They were going to slash.
02:31And the reason for slashing was what?
02:32Because Sean Preston had already graduated.
02:36He was 18.
02:37He was 18.
02:38So they're like, why are we still
02:40paying as if, I'm guessing, that was their rationale.
02:42That's right.
02:43Now on Kevin's side, he's saying,
02:47that's not what the order says.
02:49And we're going to go back into court,
02:51and you're going to incur lawyer's bills.
02:54We're going to win this, and so let's settle.
02:57So they agreed to accept $20,000 a month.
03:01But Brittany also agreed to pay a number of expenses
03:06that Kevin had.
03:07So essentially, she's giving him a lump sum
03:10in addition to the $20,000.
03:12But that $20,000 will continue through November.
03:15Huh.
03:16Interesting.
03:18And then after that?
03:19It's over.
03:20It's over.
03:21I mean, she could voluntarily still send the money,
03:23but not going to have to.
03:25Not going to happen.
03:26Really?
03:26And the other good news here, from what
03:29we've heard from these people that we've spoken to that are
03:31very privy to this information, is the fact
03:33that Brittany's relationship with her two boys
03:36has actually thawed out quite a bit.
03:38We knew there.
03:39For several years, Brittany didn't
03:41have a great relationship with the boys.
03:42They weren't really speaking.
03:44And then when they moved to Hawaii,
03:47she started speaking to them a little bit more.
03:49Now we know from these sources that that's kind of thawed out.
03:52And she's having more phone conversations with them.
03:54She's been texting with them more regularly.
03:57So there's hope that maybe in-person reconciliation
04:02could come down the road.
04:03There is definitely some hope there, though,
04:05from the people that we've spoken to.
04:06Yeah.
04:07Ice thawed a little bit.
04:08But the money thing is really interesting.
04:10Yeah.
04:11It's really interesting the way this works.
04:13And you always think it cuts off at 18.
04:15Nope.
04:16By the way, there is one other thing.
04:18Cuts off either when he turns 18 or graduates high school,
04:24but no later than 19.
04:26So it could go, in other words, in case you were in high school
04:30or set back.
04:31You're held back or whatever.
04:32Right.
04:33You can't sandbag the payment by continuing to fail.
04:38I know the two words you want to use.
04:39Don't use them.
04:41Hi, I'm Jaden Johnson.
04:43I'm calling in from Columbia, Maryland.
04:46And I mean, the whole Britney Spears thing,
04:51I mean, the money about it.
04:52I think she should definitely keep paying.
04:55If not, it's all about the kids at the end of the day.
04:59And as someone who just graduated about a year ago,
05:04I think that would help.
05:06But I hope their relationships start
05:08to get a little better.
05:10Yeah, it seems like it is a little bit.
05:12OK, a little bit.
