House panel slashes Duterte budget for 2025
Marikina Rep. Stella Luz Quimbo, appropriations committee senior vice chairman at the House of Representatives on Sept. 12, 2024, announced the decision of the panel's executive committee to cut the budget of the Office of the Vice President by nearly P1.3 billion from P2 billion, leaving her office with about P730 million to use for 2025. The budget cuts were taken from the financial assistance services and lease expenses estimated at P947 million and P48.3 million for lease expenses. The excess funds will be transferred to the Department of Health and the Department of Social Welfare and Development under their respective assistance programs.

00:00While the Office of the Vice President of DBM proposed or recommended a budget of 2.037 billion for the OVP,
00:14the Committee on Appropriations yesterday recommended, to be exact, P733,198 million pesos,
00:28which means a cut of P1.293159 million pesos.
00:38And this reduction will be transferred to two programs,
00:48and as I have mentioned earlier, for two programs,
00:52the DSWD-AX program, which is the Assistance for Individuals in Crisis Situations,
01:00and the DOH-95, or the Medical Assistance for Indigent and Financially Incapacitated Patients.
01:08In other words, these are two very important social protection programs of our government.
01:15So, the specific items that were removed from the total cut of P1.293 billion pesos are as follows,
01:31financial assistance, professional services, utility expenses, supplies and materials,
01:43as well as lease expenses.
01:46And the reason why these items were removed,
01:54all of this came from what we heard in the two hearings that took place in the last weeks.
