00:00And for the kids to read and have their critical thinking, a book fair was held in Pasay.
00:08It also aims to promote literature and literacy to the kids and to expand their imagination in reading.
00:16This is Denise Osorio for Detailier.
00:18Almost 200 delegates attended the first International Board on Books for Young People Congress at the 2024 Manila International Book Fair.
00:30Their mission is to promote literature and literacy on the theme of free children, freeing the Filipino child through a community of reading champions.
00:38The importance of reading is also given to the critical thinking of children.
00:42According to Dr. Luis Gatmaitan, a prize winner of the Book Fair, the imagination of children in reading is expanding.
00:51Now we are talking about single parenthood, marital separation, sexual preferences, and many other social issues that are related to children.
01:07But now, there are more publishers who are ready to take part in stories that are related to other faiths.
01:13I think there is freedom. We are being freed by what we are reading based on our habits and beliefs.
01:26And in that sense, we are flying.
01:29Many children with their parents attended the Manila International Book Fair at the SMX Convention Center.
01:35They were inspired by local literature and new books written by local authors.
01:40Mommy Hazel is one of the parents who attended the Book Fair.
01:43She is a fan of Zaki.
01:46Mommy Hazel's goal is to make her child read without touching a gadget.
01:50I think this type of events help him get exposed to different types of books and topics.
01:57This type of Book Fair, he's being exposed to other topics as well.
02:02Yes.
02:03Gatmaitan's call to parents and teachers is to continue guiding children and encourage them to read books.
02:11Let's let the children reflect on the stories that they have read.
02:15But I hope the parents and adults are there to answer the questions that we think the child was confused while reading.
02:25Denise Osorio, for Pambansang TV, in Bagong, Philippines.
