00:00I gotta believe you can't not like what you saw last night.
00:04The things that maybe you didn't do well, pretty marginal type things.
00:11You ran the ball better than the Jets, you threw the ball better than the Jets, your
00:14special teams were better than the Jets.
00:16You coached better.
00:18And that game was in hand at the midway point of the second quarter.
00:22Yeah, and...
00:23Oh, go ahead.
00:24No, go ahead.
00:25The whole season was about the bitterness and the taste that was left in Niner fans'
00:32mouth from losing the biggest game that there is to win the trophy, right?
00:36But at the end of the day, I think a lot of that time, that downtime, you don't focus
00:40on the good.
00:42And the good, Stiney, is what reminded me last night as I was in the stadium and had
00:46the pleasure to do so, is this team is badass.
00:51This team can be without one of its best, if not the best player, and still function.
00:57And that is a byproduct of Kyle Shanahan.
01:00And the more I think about it, McCaffrey, Stiney, take your time, you know, because
01:06Jordan Mason showed everybody, you know what, I can handle it until you come back.
01:12We all knew Brandon Aiyuk was going to be maybe slow to the party or a bit hampered
01:17or a bit rusty.
01:18I thought the Manning critique was a bit strong, should have caught that touchdown.
01:21But at the end of the day, they still had other guys as options.
01:26And to see Juwan Jennings just pick up right where he left off, five targets, five catches,
01:31kiddo contribute, use check.
01:32This team is a monster.
01:34It really is, Stiney.
01:35And I can't give a trophy to a head coach after week one like I want to, but sitting
01:41in that stadium last night was just a reminder that Kyle Shanahan is one ring away from being
01:47one of the greats to ever do it.
01:49And that's how I really feel.
01:51But he has to deliver.
01:54They do.
01:55888-957-9570 is the number if you want to jump into the conversation, talk about your
02:02San Francisco 49ers.
02:04Also, Kyle Shanahan is on a conference call with writers as we speak.
02:11And we are going to get that for you.
02:13We're going to cut it up and we're going to play a lot of that for you, probably around
02:1612 or as soon as possible, 1130, 12, 1230, as soon as possible.
02:22But in the meantime, Shanahan was asked about McCaffrey.
02:27And what Shanahan said is this, Christian has Achilles tendonitis.
02:33I believe if it was a playoff game, he would have played last night.
02:38So there you have it.
02:41That's like a precaution for McCaffrey last night.
02:45And Kyle Shanahan saying if it were a playoff game, he probably would have played.
02:51So there you go.
02:52Yeah.
02:53Yeah, I'll just let that there because a couple weeks ago, that same verbiage, you know, I'm
02:59paraphrasing from Kyle's, Donnie, had it been a regular season game, he would be ready to
03:03go.
03:04Let's go to Jeff.
03:05Jeff said Oakland wants to jump in.
03:08Hey Jeff, how you doing, man?
03:09What do you got?
03:11Okay, guys, I got Colton McEwis is the worst right tackle in football.
03:18Let me back that up.
03:19He was dominated by a defensive back.
03:21He got pretty nailed badly in the first series.
03:24He got called for two penalties, which cost a touchdown.
03:29That guy is going to get pretty hurt bad.
03:31I hope Shanahan is listening and you know, you, they think they're getting a good deal
03:36because they don't pay him very much.
03:38But Mark, my words, if they don't replace him, he's going to get hurt bad.
03:44Appreciate it, Jeff.
03:46Jeff, very disappointed in McKivitt.
03:48Well, he purred through the ball 29 times, Donnie, and McKivitt only gave up two pressures.
03:53I think Brindle gave up to Poonie and Banks in the rest of the game, game up one.
03:59So I didn't see it as glaring as he did.
04:01But last thing about that report from Kyle, Sonny, if that is tendinitis of that area,
04:07I mean, there's no way he sees the field Sunday against the Vikings.
04:10For me, if I'm coaching, how about you?
04:13I couldn't make that determination as a fan.
04:17I'd need the information that they're getting inside the building.
04:20I don't know.
04:21I have no idea whether you play him or not.
04:25You know, I mean, to me, the way the way I look at an injury is, OK, well, no way you
04:31play him week two.
04:33OK, well, then what about week three?
04:35What about week four?
04:37I mean, whenever you decide to play him, there's going to be people who are going to be worried
04:41about it.
04:42Because Greenlaw dealt with this all year and we'd see him hop off the field.
04:47He was a soldier.
04:48But eventually we saw what happened in, you know, in the Super Bowl.
04:52And then we had Emmanuel Acho on, you know, before the game.
04:55And we got this news just talking about the he hates hearing the word calf.
04:59You know what I mean?
05:00And yes, I guess I'm just telling you, I would be like, hey, let's live another day.
05:07We don't have to rush it back.
05:08Let's go to Waterman.
05:09Waterman's in Corte Madera.
05:10What's up, Waterman?
05:11How are you doing, man?
05:12What do you think about that Niners game last night?
05:14Honestly, guys, I was pleasantly surprised.
05:19I know I've called in and maybe been more on the negative, and that's just how I was
05:24feeling.
05:25So maybe I have Super Bowl hangover from the loss, unfortunately.
05:29But I was I was happy with the team.
05:32Wish they could get the punch, the ball in the end zone more.
05:36I thought Purdy had a good game, a good, solid game.
05:42There's two plays I just wish I wish he could, you know, had back.
05:45And that was that he airmailed, used check on the side, like the right sideline on a
05:50second down.
05:51And then he it was like third and two.
05:55And he just he decided instead of throwing to Mason in the flat, we would have had the
06:00first down.
06:01He threw in a really tight coverage, and I thought it was Kittle, but it was the other
06:04tight end, the backup tight end that it wound up getting knocked away.
06:08So wish he could see that as, you know, just take take the take the first down and then
06:14make those plays.
06:16But other than that, Purdy, great game.
06:17Let me ask you this.
06:18Oh, go ahead.
06:19I'm sorry.
06:20I'm so sorry.
06:21I was going to say the trick play where he gave it to Mason who got popped and he gave
06:25it to Debo.
06:26It looked like it was great to elude the the defenders, but I thought that was a little
06:30too cute.
06:31Yeah, no, I think that was that I think that they practiced that that's called per dog
06:36or something that he was saying.
06:37I think that was their play, right, that they they practiced in in a preseason.
06:42But but anyway, yeah, that was that was getting a little too cute.
06:46My only complaint about Kyle still is and don't get me wrong, masterful last five and
06:53a half minutes of holding the ball in the in the first half, second quarter to basically
06:58kill the clock and not allow the Jets the ball for what felt like 40 minutes.
07:04But he just seems like he's not aggressive in the last like minute of the game.
07:10Like when it would be, you know, here they get down to like the the 14 yard line.
07:14And I just feel like the clock just runs and runs and runs.
07:18And I feel like we get with the time gets squandered.
07:21Yeah.
07:22OK.
07:23Well, that's good.
07:24We got the points.
07:25OK.
07:26But I just there's just I wish there was a little more aggressiveness there, because
07:29I feel like there's a history of that with Shanahan in the last having the ball with
07:34the last possession of the first half.
07:36My my only last thing and guys that I know, it's NFL wide, it's not just the Niners.
07:44What is going on with the referees right now that the calls, no calls?
07:49Is there ever is there ever anything that happens to the referees?
07:54I know they get graded and all that, but I want to see something happen where I mean,
08:01where there's everybody thought on national television, both are getting completely choked
08:08and spun up and held.
08:10And there's never a flag for that guy.
08:13And I mean, in the bogus Debo hold on on Mason's run, and then they they throw the flag on
08:20you check and then, you know, New York has to tell him, no, no, no.
08:24That pick it up.
08:25I just I guys, it's just it's hard to watch sometimes.
08:29And I know it.
08:30I know it's all fast action and they're making quick decisions.
08:35But these guys are the guys who do this for a living.
08:39I mean, I don't know, but otherwise, the win did make me feel better.
08:44It is only one game is 16 to go.
08:47Let's hope McCaffrey can get healthy.
08:50I personally don't want him to play in Minnesota, especially on that turf.
08:55Let him heal.
08:56I think Mason can can take the load.
08:58No problem.
09:00And let's hope for a good season ahead of us.
09:03Like I said, I'll say this again.
09:05I hope I'm wrong.
09:06I hope the Niners can get to the playoffs and get to the Super Bowl.
09:10But we got to obviously see more guys.
09:12Thank you so much for taking the call.
09:14Yeah.
09:15If he was preaching, Stani, I would put some money in his basket that went around because
09:18I must say this about the referee.
09:20If I see another flag for a legal formation, I'm like, good God.
09:26And I was upstairs.
09:28If a place going one way and you throw a flag on the other side of the field, did that really
09:33have any impact on the play that was on the other side, Stani?
09:37Like that happened last night and I'm just like, I don't know what it's about, but I
09:41feel like the refs went to a class and they they went to the chalkboard and said, we're
09:46going to call a legal formation as much as we possibly can.
09:50Because this first week of games, that yellow handkerchief for that certain penalty, Stani,
09:55has been down there and I'm like, good God, I mean, man, if it's an illegal formation,
10:02if it's an illegal formation, I don't, I mean, I didn't, I didn't see a lot of complaints.
10:09I mean, I didn't notice the officials last night.
10:11I thought.
10:12But Debo gets hailed.
10:13He, excuse me, Debo, Bosa gets hailed, Stani.
10:16You can't rush the quarterback with your back.
10:21I mean, he turned his back on the dude.
10:22Right, but if you even go back to the Super Bowl, I'm not caping up for him.
10:26There are videos out there of him blatantly being hailed, Stani.
10:29And I'm sure, I'm sure Aaron Donald has a video of him getting hailed and TJ Watt probably
10:36has videos of him getting hailed.
10:37But I just noticed this, like, illegal formation is a point of emphasis all of a sudden.
10:41Well, then you got to stay set on that line of scrimmage.
10:44I'll tell you who else looked good last night.
10:47Cowing, the punt returner.
10:49Very sure-handed.
10:51Very sure-handed.
10:52Jacob Cowan, I thought.
10:59I think it's nothing like having a guy back there that you feel confident in.
11:03He looked like he knew exactly what he was doing.
11:068-8-8, 9-5-7, 9-5-7-0 is the number.
11:11Niners, 1-0 after an impressive performance against the New York Jets.
11:18Everybody with a part of it, the running game, the passing games, the kicking game.
11:24And the 49ers take home a victory last night on Monday Night Football against the New York
11:28Jets.
11:29See, this is what I wrote down on the use-check play.
11:34I thought it was a great job by the refs picking up the flag on the use-check offensive interference.
11:41When I first saw the play, I didn't think it was a running play.
11:46I thought it was a passing play, so I thought the call was a good one.
11:49But then when they showed the replay, it was obvious that he threw the ball behind the
11:53line of scrimmage, which made it a run play.
11:57The explanation was real and correct and nothing to see here.
12:02What did you say?
12:03They rectified it.
12:04They fixed it.
12:05They picked up the flag and got the call right on that play, that particular play.
12:11I mean, that's kind of all you can ask.
12:138-8-8, 9-5-7, 9-5-7-0 is the number.
12:20It's time to talk about a game, not practice, not a practice guys missed, but a game.
12:27And the 49ers win 32-19, they did it without Christian McCaffrey, 39 minutes of possession.
12:35Jordan Mason carries 28 times the most carries in a regular season game for a Kyle Shanahan
12:43team in San Francisco.
12:45I think Raheem Mostard had a playoff game where he carried 29 times one game, but this
12:50was the most carries that a Kyle Shanahan running back has had since he's been in San
12:55Francisco.
12:57Aaron Rodgers, I thought he looked very ordinary, not super mobile.
13:05I didn't think that he made the plays when he gets flushed out of the pocket like he
13:11normally does.
13:13The other thing I was thinking, and I know it didn't happen last night because they handed
13:18the ball to Mason 28 times.
13:21But maybe one silver lining with not having McCaffrey, and again, I'm calling it a silver
13:28lining, I'm not saying this is the way you want to do it, and again, Mason carried 28
13:35times last night.
13:36But the thing about McCaffrey is when you have him, he's going to get the ball 25 times
13:42a game.
13:43He's going to carry at 18, he's going to catch 5 or 6, and he's probably going to get to
13:4725 touches.
13:49The thing I'm wondering about is, if Mason's going to be the running back for the time
13:53being, they clearly don't throw the ball to Mason like they throw it to McCaffrey.
14:00So does the fact that Mason is back there, and he's not necessarily someone that has
14:07to get 25 touches a game, is it possible that the silver lining with Mason is you can spread
14:16the ball around to more players?
14:18Because you don't have one guy, and I'm not saying again, last night I know he had 28
14:23carries, but if you don't want to run him 28 times game in and game out, the fact of
14:28the matter is you're not going to throw it to him as much as you throw it to McCaffrey,
14:31so those catches are going to have to come from other places, and maybe the silver lining
14:36to having McCaffrey out is that you're going to need more from every other player not named
14:43McCaffrey, and then you get McCaffrey back, and everybody's kind of ready to roll.
14:48I'm not mad at that, but I do wonder, not having McCaffrey standing back there in the
14:51dual threat, if I'm a defense, does anybody else scare you like he does?
14:57And that's why I was just pointing out two of five in the red zone for the Niners, maybe
15:00would that have been four or five, just with the threat of McCaffrey back there.
15:04But I won't fight you at all, or anybody for that matter, on the Niners making the best
15:10out of a bad situation in regard to not having him, and other people get involved, but yeah,
15:18other guys are going to have to step up, last night they did, and the main guy was J.P.
15:22Mason.
15:23Yeah, and the way I'm going to kind of look at this McCaffrey injury is, maybe it's going
15:29to be a blessing in disguise, somehow.
15:32We all know 17 games is too many to play in the NFL, it just is.
15:38And I think the regular season is a long regular season, and I get that there's only 17 games,
15:46but by the same token, 17 games is a lot.
15:49And I think the 49ers are in a great spot here to rest McCaffrey, over-rest McCaffrey,
15:59if you can, or if you even need to, and then you get him back when you get him back, and
16:04then you're ready to roll.
16:06I would have no problem if McCaffrey plays 12 games this year, as long as the 12 games
16:15lead into the playoffs, Gu.
16:16Yeah, well I'll just say this, it's about what we saw, or what we didn't see from Aaron
16:21Rodgers, right?
16:22And I don't want to be that drastic, but he was away from the game, and there was obviously
16:25a rust factor, not so much with Trent Williams, who was dominant, but Brandon, you can tell
16:31there was a rust factor, and what do they say about the NFL, Stoney?
16:35You want continuity, and I'm not saying Christian McCaffrey, to your point, cannot benefit
16:41from a game or two if he's going to miss, but my fear is when he comes back, and us
16:45to expect that player to pick up right where they left off.
16:49You know, you gotta work up a lather, you gotta be in rhythm, so whenever that time
16:54does come for Christian McCaffrey, Stoney, and there are weeks, or Sundays he's not hit,
17:01I'm sure that's great, but at the same time, these guys are not robots, and I'm looking
17:06at one Brandon Ayoub, who there was no doubt, didn't come down with a couple balls because
17:11of the rust factor, and you just wonder, okay, like you said, it's a long season, 60 more
17:16games, brother gonna work it out.
17:18But as far as McCaffrey, it's not just when he's back, I do wonder, Stoney, how the body
17:24in that calf in Achilles is going to react from the poundy.
