Glasgow is now the second Scottish council to introduce a ban on fireworks in certain areas of the city around Bonfire’s Night

From 1 to 10 November a new firework control zone will be placed on Pollokshields, meaning anyone setting off fireworks in both public and private spaces will be committing a criminal offence.

The council identified this Southside neighbourhood as having faced the most serious firework-related antisocial behaviour.

They are also considering a city-wide ban which will be the subject of an upcoming public consultation.

The ban will include all types of fireworks excluding sparklers, where those found to break the legislation could face six months in prison or a fine of up to £5,0000.

Police Scotland have said Bonfire Night is one of the busiest of the year for fire crews and they will be visiting schools to educate young people on the dangers of fireworks misuse over the coming weeks.

Signs will be in place around the zone to inform people of the ban.
