00:00It's always a joy to see you, and you're bringing us yet another incredible story.
00:05I think it started when your friend called you and said about this table of Lee Miller's.
00:10Do you still own, or did you even ever own the table?
00:12Yes.
00:13You do still own it?
00:14I got the table, I own the table.
00:15It's very much in our life.
00:16Yeah, a friend of mine who lives in Cornwall works for an auction house, and she's often
00:20asked to research particularly interesting or important pieces that come in, and she
00:25knows how much I love food, and family, and feasting, and cooking, and all of it.
00:29And she called me, she said, oh my God, Kate, there's this table that's come in.
00:32She said, I just have to tell you the story.
00:33So I bought the table.
00:34Where do you keep it?
00:35Where is it?
00:36In your...
00:37It's in the house.
00:38It's in the house.
00:39I couldn't believe it, and I sat down at the table for the first time, put my hands on
00:42it, and it is beautiful.
00:43It's a big, heavy, single slab of tree, and the knots, and the welds, and the patterns,
00:49and you can honestly really feel the history in it.
00:52And I thought, my God, Lee Miller sat at this table, Lee Miller, Lee Miller, why hasn't
00:56anyone made a film about her?
00:58Cut to nine years later, and I now know why no one had made a film about her, because
01:03she lived so many lives, and what I wanted to do with this film was to almost redefine
01:09how people see her, and perhaps meet her for the first time.
01:13Was it a challenging shoot for you, because I think you were injured as well, weren't
01:17you, when it began?
01:18Yes, I was injured, but it was so spectacularly challenging, that also me being injured just
01:23became like, oh God, that just irritating thing that I'm injured.
01:27And there were so many other kind of mountains we had to climb, quite honestly.
01:30We only had nine weeks to make this whole film, after seven years of development, and
01:35working on the script, and putting the financing together, and so not dropping a day, hoping
01:40to goodness that nobody would get COVID, because that would have shut us down, which amazingly
01:44nobody did, absolutely amazing.
01:47But we had the most phenomenal cast, I mean, Andy Samberg, Josh O'Connor, Andrea Risborough,
01:53Marion Cotillard, I mean they were just so wonderful, they all said yes, they all stood
01:58by us, and came to the party, and it was just amazing.
02:02I think Andy, by the way, in this role, it's the first time I've seen him do anything like
02:06this, it's spectacular.
02:07It's the first time he's played a serious part, and he was very nervous, and I think
02:13he kind of couldn't believe that he was even being asked to consider it, because he's
02:17so known for comedy, but he looks, he looks almost exactly like the real Davy Sherman.
02:22And one of our co-writers, Marion Hume, phoned me one day, and she was like, can I ask, have
02:26you actually ever thought about Andy Samberg, because he looks exactly like Davy.
02:31And I had a look, and was like, my God, he really does, I said, I don't think he'd ever
02:35do it, it's probably not his thing, you know, he's known for comedy, she said, just ask,
02:39go on.
02:41Lee would have just asked, just ask, and so we did.
02:44And to my amazement and delight, he really wanted to do it, he really wanted to prepare,
02:51he wanted to audition, he went through this whole process, and we were just so fortunate
02:56that he said yes, and he's just, he's absolutely wonderful, and I think kind of unrecognisable
03:03as the Andy Samberg that we know in this role, he's just fantastic.
03:07I think he's really going to surprise a lot of people, but you're fantastic in it as well,
03:11so congratulations.
03:13I know a lot of your heart and soul has gone into it in so many years, so I hope you're
03:17feeling kind of at peace now that it's kind of...
03:20I think I still feel scared, because the film isn't out yet, so, but then I think I always
03:25feel scared before a film comes out, you know, I think there'd be something wrong if I didn't
03:29get nervous, but thank you.
03:31No, you're great, always.
03:32Kate, lovely to see you.
03:34Thank you so much.
03:35You too, thank you very, very much.
03:36Yeah, thank you.
