00:51after receiving a call from doctors at 5.30am on Thursday morning but, according to him,
00:57he got there too late to say goodbye to his daughter, runner Rebecca Chatege.
01:03Chatege told the Washington Post that his daughter had reported the man, whom he and
01:08Naidema referred to as her ex-boyfriend, to the police several times for domestic violence,
01:14including last Friday.
01:17According to him, the family was told to return to see police on Monday, but on Sunday, the
01:23man, who was being identified as Dixon Naidema, returned with a machete, doused her in gasoline
01:30and set her alight in front of her daughters, ages 9 and 11.
01:36Joseph Chatege, while citing a conversation with her daughter, Rebecca, after she was
01:41hospitalized, said, Rebecca was coming from church with her two children, and it was
01:47just after 3pm.
01:49It was about to rain so they started removing the clothes from the line, and Rebecca was
01:54at the chicken house.
01:56The guy came to the chicken area with petrol and poured it on her back.
02:01When Rebecca turned around, he poured some more and lit a fire.
02:06The children saw everything, even as their mother was burning.
02:10It was not the first time he had attacked her, he said.

02:34that the suspect had also spilled petrol on himself as he tried to pour more fuel onto

02:42He said neighbors held her screaming after she was set ablaze and had tried to extinguish
02:47the fire by rolling her in dirt before hurrying her to a nearby compound to douse her in a
02:52water tank.
02:54Neighbors took her to hospital on a motorbike.
02:56Naidema took himself to hospital, Kiptoek said.

03:05elite running town of Itin, some 20 miles from Eldoret, Kenya's Amnesty Order tie-up,
03:1225, whose husband was charged with her murder after she was stabbed to death in 2021, and
03:18Damaris' mother Mutua, a 28-year-old Kenyan found strangled in 2022.
03:25Police launched a manhunt after her boyfriend, an Ethiopian runner, fled.

03:38of our athlete, Rebecca Chaktige, early this morning who tragically fell victim to domestic
