00:00In Venezuela, Attorney General Tarek William Sabo made statements on the updates regarding
00:12the investigation that looks into former presidential candidate González Urrutia's criminal charges.
00:20In the Democratic Republic of Congo, the first Mpox vaccines are due to arrive on Thursday.
00:29And China has offered more than $50 billion to finance key projects in Africa, in addition
00:34to authorizing special conditions for exports to his country from the African continent
00:39in a historic cooperation agreement.
00:47Hello and welcome to From the South, I'm Alejandra Garcia from Telesur Studios in Havana, Cuba.
00:52We begin with the news.
00:53On Thursday, the Venezuelan Attorney General Tarek William Sabo offered statements on the
00:57case of former presidential candidate for the far-right opposition Edmundo González
01:02Urrutia.
01:03In this regard, Sabo informed that during his meeting with González Urrutia's lawyer
01:07José Vicente Aro, presented a letter acknowledging the Venezuelan justice system, but denied
01:13direct links to the crimes.
01:15The Attorney General ratified the three summons issued for the former candidate and pointed
01:20out that González validated the false website, where images of tally sheets of the presidential
01:26elections of July 28 were shown.
01:30In addition, the prosecutor's office has reportedly opened a criminal investigation
01:34to determine the responsibility of those who threatened to assassinate the prosecutor working
01:40on the case of the Minots presented by the extreme right.
01:44Furthermore, the Attorney General affirmed that González Urrutia was an excuse of the
01:49radical Venezuelan opposition to fill the country with violence.
01:58In this regard, as we have informed you, the public prosecutor's office ratifies the
02:02summons with the arrest warrant in progress for Edmundo González Urrutia to be interviewed
02:07and it ratifies that he is requested and must appear and brought to court abided by the
02:11Constitution and the law.
02:14The head of the public prosecutor's office denounced that the 27 deaths and 190 injured
02:19were due to far-right's contempt of the electoral results.
02:25They are the masterminds of the death of 27 Venezuelans on the days following July 28
02:30and of having fatally wounded 190, of which 100 are police and military officers, of having
02:37attacked and destroyed 400 state and private properties, such as high schools, colleges,
02:43universities, health and educational centers.
02:49On early Thursday, the President of Venezuela, Nicolás Maduro, condemned the attack on the
02:53power grid perpetrated by the local far-right wing, unfolding that investigations are on
02:58due course to arrest all the accountable.
03:01On an official press briefing, the President asserted that the attack on the SimĂłn BolĂvar
03:05hydropower plant is just the onset of several criminal plans of the far-right against the
03:10Venezuelan people.
03:12Likewise, the head of state reiterated that thanks to the efforts of the intelligence
03:16and counterintelligence agencies, several terrorists have already been detained, pointing
03:21out investigations are still on their way.
03:25The leader stated, so, after auditing and inaugurating the first phase of the Doctor
03:30Jose Gregorio Hernández Cutting Edge Health Care Center in El Junquito Parish in Caracas.
03:42You are about to learn, in the coming hours and in the next days, about the criminal plans
03:47that we are disclosing right now, on real time.
03:51The criminal plans we are unveiling, and the criminals we are capturing.
03:56These plans are diabolical and fascist, but, fortunately, we not only count on the intelligence,
04:03counterintelligence and extraordinary security agencies, but also we can count on friends
04:08worldwide from the different peoples and nations, that inform us on time about everything.
04:14One of the damages this opposition pretended to cause was in 2019, when this fascist sector,
04:20led by Guaido attacked the power grid too, that was a big attack that went on over several
04:25days, it happened in March.
04:29Then they attacked again in April, in June and July.
04:33There were four cyber and electromagnetic attacks.
04:37This recent attack was different, I cannot reveal much yet, since investigations are
04:42in a really advanced stage, and any detail I provide here may give the culprits some
04:47hints, and we have to catch them first, and then we will reveal the whole information
04:52to the people.
04:54But Magali told me something that was true, Dr. Magali Gutierrez, who is the Minister
04:59of the People's Power for Health, told me that they had an objective among several objectives
05:04to harm, which was to harm the hospitals.
05:07To prevent dialysis patients from receiving the procedure, a very serious issue.
05:13To prevent people who needed emergency surgery from getting it.
05:17And overall to affect us, as they did in 2019, I still say it with pain, as they affected
05:24us in 2019.
05:27That was their objective, Magali.
05:31We go to the Caribbean from where our colleague Daisy Toussaint tells us how the government
05:36of the Dominican Republic shows its double standards in international politics and human
05:41rights.
05:43The Dominican state is denounced by international organizations for racism and persecution against
05:48Haitians and people of African descent.
05:51The government described this as, foreign interference.
05:55This has generated a debate on the double standards in the country's foreign policy,
06:00due to its position in other international scenarios.
06:06There are no racist migratory policies here, so let those international organizations say
06:11what they want to say, but let them really respect national sovereignty and our policies,
06:16which have never been detrimental to immigrants, no matter where they come from.
06:23They act according to their convenience, for example with the racist policy of persecution
06:27of Haitian citizens in the Dominican Republic, what they call the migration policy of the
06:32Dominican Republic, but from the Afro-activism we define it in this way, as a totally racist
06:38policy.
06:39When any person in the world speaks of respect for the human rights of black people in the
06:43Dominican Republic, they immediately call for the application of the constitution and
06:49the application of international law.
06:53The Dominican government has shown a selective disposition to accept or reject what it considers
06:57foreign interference.
06:59On the one hand, it rejects criticism of racist persecutions and on the other, it allows and
07:04participates in acts of interference in the internal affairs of other countries, as in
07:09the case of Venezuela.
07:13In the Dominican Republic, there is no president of the republic.
07:17There is a colonial governor who made common cause with the neo-fascist project of Guaido,
07:24under the tutelage of the United States of America, and who later, as a tiger that does
07:30not change its stripes, repeats history by supporting the neo-fascist project with two
07:36notorious CIA agents at the head, the Maria Corina and Edmundo Gonzalez project, with
07:43all the traces of corruption and crimes, and the very specific case of the puppet presidential
07:50candidate.
07:52Supporting this is a shame for the Dominican Republic, but it is a shame for others because
07:58it is not an attitude of our people.
08:02Although the Dominican government defends the right to manage its internal affairs without
08:06interference, it has allowed summits to be held in its own territory to openly criticize
08:11the Venezuelan government.
08:17The signing countries, gathered in Santo Domingo de Guzman, make a firm call for reason and
08:23sanity in Venezuela.
08:26We urge that democratic principles be respected, as well as the human rights and fundamental
08:31freedoms of all Venezuelans and in particular the right to demonstrate peacefully and in
08:36order to exercise freedom of expression.
08:39We are concerned that this is not the reality in Venezuela.
08:45The Dominican Republic has also cooperated in actions that could be considered direct
08:49interference.
08:50This is the case of the seizure of a Venezuelan plane in Dominican territory by the US, an
08:55action that contradicts the Dominican position on sovereignty and non-interference.
09:03It is a shameful act because it is the seizure or the authorization of the seizure in Dominican
09:09territory of a Venezuelan airplane that belongs to the Venezuelan Bolivarian Revolution, authorized
09:17by the Dominican authorities and stolen from the Venezuelan state.
09:22And let it be known to the Venezuelan people that the people of Juan Pablo Duarte, who
09:27was welcomed by the Venezuelan people when he was betrayed, that the people of Camaño,
09:34of our leader Gregorio Luperon, the people of Professor Juan Bosch, the people of Pedro
09:41Mir, will not cease to accompany all anti-imperialist causes, and especially this exemplary cause
09:48that the Bolivarian process represents.
09:53This double standard not only undermines the credibility of the Dominican Republic on the
09:57international stage, but also raises questions about its priorities in terms of human rights
10:02and respect for the sovereignty of other nations.
10:06While every country has the right to defend its interests, coherence in foreign policy
10:10is key to maintaining a respected and consistent position in the global community.

10:40In the Democratic Republic of Congo, the first Mpox vaccines are due to arrive on Thursday.
10:45The African Union Health Agency announced on Wednesday that a first delivery of nearly
10:49100,000 doses of Mpox vaccines is expected to arrive in the Republic of the Congo, the
10:55country worst hit by the epidemic.
10:58According to the Congolese Health Ministry, the country has registered more than 19,000
11:03cases and 650 deaths since the beginning of the year.
11:07In addition, 62% of the confirmed cases affect children.
11:11So far, the epidemic is present in 13 countries, including Burundi, Congo, Brazzaville and
11:17Central Africa.
11:18The World Health Organization indicated in late August that approximately 230,000 doses
11:24of vaccine produced by the Danish pharmaceutical laboratory Bavarian Nordic were immediately
11:30available to the regions affected by the virus.
11:38On Thursday, Mexico presented its new model of human mobility and signed agreements with
11:43several United Nations agencies to ensure respectful and warranted processes.
11:48The Secretary of Foreign Affairs, Alicia Bárcena, assured in an event arranged by her office
11:54that they have managed to reduce flows to the U.S. by 66%.
11:58With the signing of this memorandum of understanding, they seek to strengthen this model focusing
12:04on paramount issues such as gender and inclusive development.
12:08The report on mobility was presented in the framework of the event The Mexican Model of
12:13Human Mobility, collaboration with the United Nations agencies, where all agreed that migration
12:18is a regional phenomenon.
12:24Concerning migrants who enter Mexico daily to cross over to the U.S., those willing to
12:30enter the U.S. daily, we are talking about 3,000 approximately, and 1,500 are the ones
12:36with set appointments, which means that we will be able to move half of them from the
12:40south to the northeast, so we could take good care of them, although they are always free
12:45to back down, or decide they don't want to do it with us.
12:49If they want to do it by their own means, but we think guaranteeing them a safe mobility
12:55is part of our job.
12:57Mexico's President-elect, Claudia Sheinbaum, celebrated the deputies' approval of the judicial
13:02reform.
13:03The reform was approved after 18 hours of legislative work, with 357 votes in favor
13:09and 130 against.
13:11Through her social networks, Sheinbaum expressed that the reforms of the judicial reform were
13:15Through her social networks, Sheinbaum expressed that the reforms of the judicial reform were
13:19to bring democracy and justice to the country.
13:22In this context, the President-elect stated that together with the people, a prosperous,
13:27democratic and fair Mexico will be built.
13:34On Wednesday evening, the President of Colombia, Gustavo Petro, requested to open an investigation
13:39into the purchase of the Israeli software Pegasus, used to spy on public officials,
13:45including himself.
13:46The serious allegations claims the software was acquired while former President Iván Duque
13:51was in office.
13:52Precisely, the country's Information and Financial Analysis Unit informed Petro of
13:57the irregularities found, among them the payment in cash of over $11 million allocated to Israel
14:04for the software's services.
14:06In addition, the head of state revealed that several media outlets would have received
14:10direct information about these illegitimate procedures.
14:15How are they able to smuggle $11 million in cash out of the country by means of one
14:27or two flights?
14:29They used to do it from state offices, perhaps from the Air Command for Military Transportation
14:35or from the National Police, heading for Israel to purchase a software that spies on phone
14:42private communications, politics.
14:45Perhaps, they've been spying on us, the main opposition party, for months.
14:52A party that turned into the ruling political force together with its presidential candidate,
14:57now president.
14:59This information was revealed to the regular journal and to a TV channel, so it raises
15:05the question, who else did they intercept?
15:08Were they abided by a judicial order?
15:11That's what the constitution stipulates for those interferences to not be crimes.
15:37Don't go away.
15:46Welcome back to From the South.
15:48In Palestine, Israeli troops killed five Palestinian citizens in the occupied West
15:52Bank on Thursday amid an airstrike on Tubas.
15:55The area, located in the northeast, was brutally bombed in an alleged anti-terrorist operation.
16:01The five young men killed were in a vehicle that was hit by the airstrike.
16:05The bombing took place as Zionist troops stormed the Farah refugee camp south of Tubas,
16:11where they also shot a Palestinian who survived the attack.
16:14In this context, the West Bank health authorities confirmed the admission of more than 20 wounded
16:19amid the brutal attack.
16:26Chinese President Xi Jinping has offered more than $50 billion to finance key projects in
16:31Africa, in addition to authorizing special conditions for exports to his country from
16:35the African continent.
16:37The news was announced on Thursday in the framework of the China-Africa Cooperation
16:41Forum's summit, which is taking place in Beijing, the country's capital, and is being
16:46attended by more than 50 African leaders.
16:49Precisely, the meeting adopted the Beijing declaration on building an all-weather Chinese
16:54African community with a shared future in the new era.
16:58As a result, from now on, 33 African countries that maintain diplomatic relations with the
17:03Asian giant will be able to export goods and products at a zero-tariff rate, in which constitutes
17:09a historic cooperation agreement.
17:19Over the next three years, the Chinese government is willing to provide financial support amounting
17:25to 360 billion yuan, $50 billion, to Africa.
17:33In this context, African leaders thank China's commitment to contribute to the continent's
17:38development and the modernization of the Global South.
17:56We find that all of them are in line with the implementation of Agenda 2063.
18:06And we thank China for focusing on Africa's development.
18:12In the name of our common humanity, we must work together to achieve the Africa that we
18:20want, and we must work together to achieve the world that we want.
18:29In this respect, I am delighted to note that our efforts are meeting China's desire to
18:34make a decisive contribution to the modernization of the Global South, and therefore of Africa,
18:41for the emergence of a new, innovative development model.
