Transcript
00:00Today we went to a classic car show so off we go in our Austin 1100 called Austin.
00:15Going down the nearly freshly, I mean I suppose it is freshly tarmac,
00:19just not the snow coat yet so we've got a few bumps to dodge.
00:25We arrived there quite early so then we can get you a clear shot of all the cars and as you
00:29can see it is pretty damn clear no people around so we there's some absolutely stunning cars here
00:36and just amazing how immaculate they are and how people just donate so much of their time to do
00:41them and make sure they're clean and running well and the interior and the outside I mean it's just
00:46like a job every single day and they manage it amazingly and they do it wonderfully and
00:50we met some very good characters today as you shall see inside the full video.
01:01I like your teddies.
01:20Yeah, yeah.
01:51Now you drive.
02:05After you.
02:20I just got a photo of a bike with a man next to next to it.
02:24I got a good photo of a bike with a man sat on it and I bet you it's the same bike.
02:28Ah, right.
02:32Pardon?
02:33Did you give him a business card?
02:34No I didn't.
02:35Oh well I gave him a business card so I'm really good.
02:37Oh right well I'll go give him a business card then.
02:40I'll go try and ride his bike.
02:42Right well you know I'll do something else.
02:45I'll put a dog on top of it.
02:47I'll buy it.
02:50So you didn't get your little car into your car show.
03:17It's not my fault.
03:20So
03:44oh
03:50I remember this one from last year, and they put a seatbelt across so you can't get in and drive it off.
04:15You bought your lovely car again.
04:20Looking wonderful.
04:34I see you've brought your teddies.
04:36I'm going to bring my babies out now.
04:38Yeah, are you bringing them out now?
04:40I'm bringing them out now.
04:50That is amazing.
05:20And what's both of your names?
05:31Judy and David Baker.
05:33And this is your car. Does your car have a name?
05:35No, it doesn't have a name.
05:37Have you not named your car?
05:39No, we haven't named it.
05:41What would you name it?
05:43Purple Ronnie.
05:45Is that a type of car?
05:47No, it's just a silly name really.
05:50I'll have to get you a little sign for it.
05:52What type of car is this?
05:54Porsche 911.
05:56How long have you had it for?
05:5820 years.
06:00How old is it?
06:021995.
06:04Have you been anywhere special in it?
06:06Yes, we've been all over the place.
06:08We've gone on a lot of Porsche runs and Porsche weekends away.
06:10Silverstone Classic.
06:12A lot of the classic weekends we've gone to.
06:14Is it quite reliable?
06:16Yes.
06:19Have you broken down there?
06:21No, we haven't.
06:23Only once we got 200 yards out and broke down by the co-op.
06:25At least we didn't go far.
06:27Thank you for showing us your wonderful car.
06:31All these four are from the Lancashire Porsche Club.
06:33That's brilliant, thank you.
06:35Have a great day.
07:38What type of car is it?
07:40It's a 1969 MGB GT.
07:42How long have you had it?
07:44Probably about 10 years.
07:47Have you done any repairs on it?
07:49It was rescued from a scrap.
07:55So it was going for scrap?
07:57It was going for scrap.
07:59Well done you.
08:01Most of the rear end of it had rotted away.
08:05I just saw an opportunity and got it.
08:07Have you done this yourself?
08:09I've done it at home.
08:11Well done you.
08:13Did you have any experience before?
08:16When I grew up, my dad was a mechanic.
08:18He worked for AA when I was growing up.
08:22When I left home, the first thing I bought was an old car.
08:27I've been doing it for quite a long time now.
08:29I bet you're very proud of it.
08:31I would be.
08:33I have some more cars at home.
08:37It's very tidy.
08:39Is this original or did you change it up a bit?
08:41Very little of it is actually original.
08:47The seat frame is original.
08:49The car itself from up to about here is pretty much original.
08:55The back end is one I had to make a new back end for it.
08:59Most of the dashboard is original.
09:01But the seats have all been re-covered.
09:03And obviously not original carpets.
09:07There is a lot of original parts in it.
09:11And a lot that couldn't be saved.
09:15Is it in keeping with that type of car?
09:19There is another one, a red one over there.
09:21You'll be able to see the similarities.
09:25When I did it, it was quite a popular car.
09:29I thought there was enough of them on the planet to make this one a bit different.
09:35So you put your own stamp on it.
09:37I like your blue seatbelt.
09:39It goes very well with your seats.
09:41Your seats look very nice.
09:43And your paintwork.
09:45You've got very nice mirrors as well, haven't you?
09:51Don't go driving off, Matilda.
09:53No, but I could drive off. Would you like me to drive it off?
09:55As long as you came back.
09:57But you haven't seen the drive, I take it.
09:59Maybe I won't let you see the hospital.
10:05I could drive.
10:07How do you keep it so clean?
10:09And tidy?
10:11I spend a lot of time cleaning it.
10:13I am married.
10:15It's our 30 year wedding anniversary this year.
10:17To your car?
10:19No, to my wife.
10:21We've probably spent about 5 years together in all that time.
10:27It's very tidy.
10:33Thank you very much for that.
10:35Have a great day.
12:05Sorry. Yes, Peter.
12:07So, you've got this lovely vehicle with you today.
12:09Yes.
12:11So what have you brought it along for?
12:13It's for the vintage.
12:15So people can have a look at it?
12:17Yes.
12:19And is it yours?
12:21Yes.
12:23And you just showed me a picture of what it used to look like just before.
12:25Yes, that one there.
12:27That's when it was found in the orchard.
12:29So this particular bus was found?
12:31That's the exact one.
12:33That's the whole thing as it stands.
12:35Wow.
12:37That's absolutely incredible, isn't it?
12:39So how did you do that?
12:41Did you do this yourself?
12:43No, no, no.
12:45The guy that had it in the beginning
12:47is the one who did it all.
12:49All I've done to it really
12:51is actually refined it all.
12:53He's done the hard work
12:55getting it all together
12:57and I've just made it better.
12:59So how long have you had it for?
13:01It's 12 months now.
13:03Oh, so not really that long.
13:05Do you take passengers?
13:07It depends.
13:09It depends on what it is
13:11and who it is.
13:13You've got to remember it's nearly 100 years old.
13:15So it's one of those
13:17sort of vehicles that
13:19I've been asked to do
13:21weddings and things like that.
13:23How can you tell a girl
13:25on her wedding day
13:27that I've broken down?
13:29And you haven't got a back-up bus?
13:31Well, we've got a back-up bus
13:33but not a vintage one.
13:35A disordered one.
13:47I like the little two side bits
13:49where it goes off to the side.
13:51Those leaflets that you see on the side there
13:53they're actually genuine ones.
13:55They're actually from that era.
13:57They're not copies
13:59of anything.
14:01They're actually genuine.
14:07It's very clean
14:09and tidy, isn't it?
14:11Well, like I say
14:13a lot of work has gone into it
14:15since I've had it.
14:17I've tried to make it better
14:19than what it was
14:21which I have done.
14:23So...
14:29You can't miss it, can you?
14:31Open your door. Is it locked?
14:33No, it's not locked. Can I open it?
14:35Yeah, go on.
14:37Oh, it's easy to open, isn't it?
14:39That's a very smoothly one.
14:41Look at that.
14:43Let's bring it back in again.
14:45Oh, that's a piece of cake, isn't it?
14:47It's very smooth. Look at that.
14:49You can open it again and again.
14:51It's not broken.
14:53Well, it's not been broken a hundred years
14:55so please don't break it.
14:57Oh, that's very good.
14:59Oh, look at your little hinges as well.
15:01Look.
15:05Oh, they're great, aren't they?
15:09Absolutely great.
15:13Oh, you've got a good door there.
15:15You've got a good door, she says on your bus.
15:17Well done, you.
15:21I'll take some during lunch.
15:23I'll take some during lunch.
15:25Right, are we off to the next one?
15:27Yep, see what else we can see.
15:29A lovely bus.
15:31Thank you very much.
15:33You're welcome.
15:35Bye, have a great day.
