Danzig Interview In London 10th September 1992 Part 1
Transcript
00:00London and I don't know about you, but I've been looking forward to meeting my next guest for about three or four years now
00:06I'm very pleased to welcome Glenn Danzig to headbangers ball. Hi Glenn. How are you doing? Very good now
00:12You've just embarked on your first extensive European tour and judging by the response at the town and country club last night
00:19I can imagine that's going to be a good one. How's it going? It's going really good. We've toured Germany pretty extensively already
00:25It's just we've never done a real big UK tour except the one Metallica that we did. So that was four or five years ago
00:33so
00:35Yeah, everything's going great. Now. You've just released your third album
00:39Danzig three how the gods kill now. Why did you decide to produce this album yourself?
00:48First off a few of the people we would like to have produced the record were scared of working with us
00:55And then
00:57Another person we wanted wasn't available till just about this month and
01:04We wanted a very moody
01:07Record and so Rick wasn't right for that because Rick has a
01:13Distinct sound that he brings us very raw
01:16Stripped down thing and we didn't want that for this record. So I just decided to produce it myself
01:21I got to pick the engineers I wanted and the mixers I wanted so worked out great
01:26How about remaining objective through that process? Did you find that a problem or were you just completely 100% sure of what you wanted?
01:35Sometimes you start out
01:36Knowing what you want and then you hear something different and it adds a different slant to a song and you just take it in
01:41That direction see if it works. That's what a producer does. He just you know
01:44Feels out the song and sees what it needs
01:47Yeah, yeah, I can be really objective about that stuff have to do it with songwriting and I've produced a few records before so it's
01:53You know, as long as you have good people working with you, it's it's much easier
01:57Now as we said you are onto your third album
02:01How difficult it is it now to separate Danzig the man from Danzig the band or don't you want people to do that? Anyway, I
02:09Don't know if I have to you know, the guys in the band bring their own
02:15Talents to the band without those guys. It would be a different band. So
02:21You know, it might be my name up there and my songs
02:24But John has a distinct guitar sound and Chuck has a very distinct drum sound and Erie is just a maniac
02:32Yes, I must compliment you the most excellent band indeed. We have a great band. Yeah
02:38And now it's well documented that you have a great interest in
02:42The occult and religion what you find so fascinating about those subjects and do you seem see them connected in any way
02:50the occult and religion
02:52Sure, they're definitely related. It's all faith. It's all a religion. So I mean occult is a generalization of anything. That's not
03:03What we would call a recognized religion so it's lots of different stuff so
03:08It's basically whatever gets you through the day, I guess
03:12but what do you find so fascinating about it is it all that people start wars over it and people kill each other over it and
03:20Just things of that nature
03:22What are your own spiritual beliefs? No, I had two buried. I believe in myself
03:31Okay, well perhaps you'll stay with me because we are going to talk a little bit more
03:34But right now we are going to see the first video from Danzig three how the gods kill and this is dirty black
03:42summer
