00:00Everyone knows Catwoman is one of the worst movies Halle Berry has starred in, but it's
00:04not the one with a 0% on Rotten Tomatoes.
00:07These stars have all reached the pinnacle of success in their careers, and they've
00:11each made a stop at rock bottom along the way.
00:15When he isn't collaborating with auteur filmmakers, actor Antonio Banderas definitely
00:19isn't afraid to make pretty by the numbers Hollywood fare.
00:22Some of it is great, but plenty of it has fallen into the stinker category.
00:26Still, even with movies like The Expendables 3 and Doolittle in the mix, Banderas has only
00:30been in one movie so bad that it got a goose egg from Rotten Tomatoes.
00:34Just how bad is the espionage action film Ballistic X vs. Sever?
00:38So bad that Rotten Tomatoes ranks it as the worst movie of all time, owing to the fact
00:43that it's the 0% rated movie with the highest number of reviews on the site.
00:47It's one thing for dozens of critics to all hate a movie.
00:51It's another thing entirely when over 100 have unanimously done so.
00:55X vs. Sever is also a career low point for Banderas' co-star Lucy Liu, but she doesn't
01:00have nearly as many critical and or commercial successes as Banderas, so the shock isn't
01:04quite as great.
01:13When one thinks about Sean Connery in the context of a legendarily bad movie, it's
01:17easy to assume the main offender is The League of Extraordinary Gentlemen.
01:21Indeed, that 2003 adaptation of Alan Moore in Kevin O'Neill's comic book series didn't
01:26win much favor with critics, earning a 17% Rotten Tomatoes score.
01:30Its troubled production also caused Connery to leave Hollywood behind altogether, and
01:34it would be the last live-action role he'd ever play.
01:36But the dishonor of being Connery's worst movie belongs to Highlander 2 The Quickening.
01:41Though the original Highlander was initially a commercial failure, it became a legitimate
01:45cult classic to the point that a sequel was made five years later.
01:49Connery returned to reprise the role of Juan Sanchez Villalobos Ramirez for The Quickening,
01:53joining Christopher Lambert as the only major returning characters from the original.
01:57But the movie was a failure of absolutely colossal proportions, scoring a 0% on Rotten
02:02Tomatoes.
02:03Chloe Grace Moretz has packed a lot of roles into a fairly short career, and has already
02:07displayed an ability to pick interesting and varied projects.
02:10She worked with Martin Scorsese at only 14, and conquered the superhero genre the year
02:14prior when she played Hit Girl in 2010's Kick-Ass.
02:17Dang, that role would even prime Moretz for the judo mastery she needed in the Amazon
02:21series The Peripheral.
02:22That's not to say that Moretz has always kicked ass in choosing movies.
02:26In 2017, she added a less desirable achievement to her career when she did her first 0% Rotten
02:31Tomatoes movie, the dreadful crime drama November Criminals.
02:342017 was a rough year for Moretz all around, as it also saw the semi-release of I Love
02:39You Daddy starring Moretz and writer-director Louis C.K.
02:43It got a single film festival screening before all subsequent theatrical release plans were
02:47scrapped in light of the sexual misconduct allegations against C.K.
02:50Before finally scoring his breakthrough role as Don Draper in Mad Men, Jon Hamm had a decade
03:01of screen credits behind him.
03:03His most prominent roles up to that point were also on television, including being part
03:06of the main cast of police procedural The Division and a recurring role on NBC's Providence.
03:11He did have some minor movie roles during that time, but it was after he starred on
03:15Mad Men that his film career really took off.
03:17Hamm has since built an impressively varied filmography that includes The Town, Baby Driver,
03:22Bridesmaids, Top Gun Maverick, and Confess Fletch.
03:25But things were a bit rocky in those first few years of trying to balance a film career
03:29and Mad Men, most notably with the 2009 crime drama Stolen.
03:33As the Rotten Tomatoes consensus points out next to its 0% rating for the movie, this
03:37would-be thriller squanders a solid cast on overly serious and suspense-free storytelling.
03:42Fortunately for Hamm, Stolen did little to rob him of his still-budding film career,
03:46in part because hardly anyone even noticed it.
03:49It only made about $8,000 in a very limited theatrical release before going straight to
03:53video.
03:54In January 2022, Zoe Saldana earned a remarkable achievement, becoming the first actor in history
04:00to star in four different movies that grossed more than $2 billion at the box office.
04:06It's a feat that may never be topped, with Saldana being fortunate enough to be part
04:09of both the Marvel Cinematic Universe and James Cameron's Avatar franchise.
04:13If subsequent Avatar sequels do as well as the first two, Saldana has even more $2 billion
04:18films in her future.
04:19But just because Saldana has over $8 billion and counting in box office receipts attached
04:24to her name, that doesn't mean that everything she's made has been a hit with critics.
04:28Before she became a massive movie star with the release of both Avatar and Star Trek in
04:332009, Saldana paid her dues on films like Guess Who and the Britney Spears vehicle,
04:37Crossroads.
04:38Saldana also ended up in the family drama Constellation in 2005, which was absolutely
04:42wallowed by the critics to the tune of a 0% Rotten Tomatoes score.
04:46But she was cast in Avatar soon after, turning whatever duds she made up to that point into
04:50a distant memory.
04:52When considering which of Dominic Cooper's roles he's best known for, most people will
04:56likely be split between Jesse Custer on the TV series Preacher and young Howard Stark
05:00in various Marvel Cinematic Universe projects.
05:03Those who lean a little more musically might instead know Cooper best from the two Mamma
05:06Mia films.
05:07What almost nobody will say they remember first about Cooper is his title role in the
05:112017 action movie Stratton.
05:14Released only in its native UK, Stratton was received extremely poorly, with critics handing
05:18it a 0% Rotten Tomatoes score.
05:20Henry Cavill was originally meant to star as protagonist John Stratton, but he left
05:24before filming began over issues with the script.
05:26It seems like Cavill could see that this was going to be a stinker, even when it was still
05:30just words on paper and got out while he could.
05:33Halle Berry has always had a wildly inconsistent career.
05:37For instance, she had a solid run in the early 2000s with her Oscar-winning performance in
05:40Monsters Ball, followed by the hit 007 film Die Another Day and excellent superhero sequel
05:46X2.
05:47But then she did the terrible horror film Gothica and the infamous comic book dud Catwoman
05:51back-to-back after that.
05:53Yet when Berry's output was in one of its valleys, she still typically managed to have
05:56at least a few critics defend her work, as even Catwoman managed an 8% on Rotten Tomatoes.
06:01However, 2012's Darktide found no such sympathizers among critics.
06:06Its 0% score and the less than $2 million it earned at the box office should tell you
06:10all you need to know about the shark-based horror thriller.
06:13Its director John Stockwell had done some decent television work, but he seems less
06:17skilled on the big screen, given that this isn't the only 0% rated movie of his we'll
06:22be discussing in this feature.
06:24After making a name for himself in the 90s on the sketch series In Living Color and in
06:29mega-hit comedies like Ace Ventura, Pet Detective and The Mask, Jim Carrey eventually started
06:33branching out into drama.
06:35He's done some excellent work in that arena, most notably with The Truman Show and Eternal
06:39Sunshine of the Spotless Mind.
06:41But when Carrey misfires at drama, the results are arguably way worse than when he's in
06:45a bad comedy, as demonstrated by his only two movies to score less than double digits
06:50on Rotten Tomatoes.
06:51The number 23 was seen as Carrey's first major misstep after becoming a huge star,
06:55not only underperforming at the box office, but giving him the worst reviews of his career
06:59up to that point.
07:00And that even includes his campy pre-fame dud Once Bitten.
07:07But number 23 still managed to eke out a 7% on Rotten Tomatoes.
07:11It would be some years later, with the 2016 mystery thriller Dark Crimes, that Carrey
07:15finally got his first 0% rated film.
07:18Carrey spent the next few years focusing on television and seeming to have little interest
07:21in making movies.
07:23Still his big comeback is Dr. Robotnik in the Sonic the Hedgehog movies.
07:26If he sticks to his plan to retire after Sonic the Hedgehog 3, it serves as a much better
07:30note to end his career on than Dark Crimes would have been.
07:34Every project Billy Bob Thornton participates in isn't always amazing, but they're consistently
07:37interesting in some way, and he's at least doing some fascinating character work in the
07:41process.
07:42It's easy to see how he might have assumed that London Fields, based on the beloved 1989
07:47dark comedy mystery novel of the same name, would be one of his better movies.
07:50Well, you know what they say about those who assume.
07:53The Rotten Tomatoes consensus of the Matthew Cullen-directed film specifically addresses
07:56what a waste of talent and source material it is, saying,
07:59London Fields bungles its beloved source material and an intriguingly eclectic cast, leaving
08:04audiences with a would-be neo-noir of interest only to the morbidly curious.
08:09Its 0% rating suggests that even the morbidly curious might want to steer clear.
08:14Kate Beckinsale rose to prominence around the turn of the millennium with movies like
08:17Pearl Harbor, Broke Down Palace, and Serendipity.
08:20But it's when she took on the lead role of a vampire named Selene in the Underworld sci-fi
08:23action franchise that she became a true Hollywood A-lister.
08:27Since then, she's enjoyed showcasing her range in movies across pretty much all genres, while
08:31also returning to play Selene in a new Underworld movie every few years.
08:35Of course, not all range is necessarily good range.
08:38For instance, it's arguable whether Beckinsale appearing in the poorly-received Adam Sandler
08:42fantasy comedy Click did much to establish her funny woman bona fides.
08:47Nor did her 2016 attempt at a psychological horror film, The Disappointments Room, help
08:51endear her to fans of that genre.
08:53Like many of the review headlines for the movie, the Rotten Tomatoes consensus can't
09:02help evoking the irony of the title, writing,
09:04"...The Disappointments Room lives down to its title with a thrill-free thriller that
09:08presumably left its stars filled with regret, and threatens to do the same for audiences."
09:13And thus, Beckinsale got the first 0% rated movie of her career.
09:18Now it's time for the second John Stockwell-directed movie, 2017's Armed Response.
09:23Not only was this 0% rated action snooze-fest unfortunately among the last handful of movies
09:29featuring Anne Heche released prior to her death in 2022, but it also gave main star
09:33Wesley Snipes the lowest rated movie of his long career thus far.
09:37While it was certainly true that it had been some time since Snipes was associated with
09:49quality movies or box office success, Armed Response was still a low point even for a
09:54career that had mostly been on cruise control.
09:56Snipes, however, seemed to have a nice career renaissance following Armed Response, thanks
09:59to Eddie Murphy's acclaimed biopic Dolomite Is My Name.
10:02He teamed with Murphy again for the long-awaited sequel, Coming to America, in 2021, with the
10:07two actors seemingly joining forces to successfully right the sinking ships of their respective
10:11careers.
10:13When Christopher Lee died in 2015 at the age of 93, he left behind an incredible career
10:17that spanned a mind-boggling eight decades.
10:21Lee was also still successfully introducing himself to entirely new audiences well into
10:24his 80s, thanks to playing Count Dooku in the Star Wars franchise, and Saruman in The
10:28Lord of the Rings and The Hobbit films in the 2000s and 2010s.
10:32Given the nearly 300 credits Lee racked up in his storied career, it's not at all shocking
10:37that there were a fair amount of duds in the mix, such as 1994's Police Academy Mission
10:41to Moscow.
10:42Steve Gottenberg had already bowed out of this shockingly long-running law enforcement
10:46comedy series, with the earlier films B- and C-tier characters now leading the charge.
10:52So for that to be the point when Lee decided to sign on is especially unfortunate.
