00:09The final NFL preseason game was played last night and the New England Patriots quite the
00:13scare happened with them.
00:14Their offensive line apparently forgot to block anybody and their starting quarterback
00:18in that game, Jacoby Brissett was injured in the game and had to leave.
00:23Now, it's a little complicated here because Drake May came in the rookie who was drafted
00:27in the first round and played very well.
00:29In fact, he looked as good as any quarterback has on the Patriots this preseason.
00:34And we'll dive into that a little bit more as we go.
00:37But after the game, interestingly enough, the head coach of the Patriots, little Belichick-esque
00:43Gerard Mayo said that Brissett, although he was hurt in the game, the plan all along was
00:48him just to play as long as he did.
00:51Was the plan for Jacoby to just play the first series or was that as a result?
00:55No, that was the plan.
00:56We were going to play Jacoby a series or two and get Drake in.
00:59Would he have been able to play?

02:19Nick Chubb, who of course had a gruesome injury last season during one of the games in the
02:24NFL last year for the Cleveland Browns, they thought that he would miss at least a year
02:28of time.
02:29And that does look like it's going to be the case.
02:31This morning, Chubb was placed on the PUP list, physical, unable to perform.
02:36So that means that he's ineligible to play the first four games of the season for the
02:39Cleveland Browns.
02:40So more of a Cleveland Browns note, even a fantasy football note for you there.
02:44Hey, the Kansas City Chiefs are bringing back Juju Smith-Schuster, didn't see this happening.
02:48Juju had a cup of coffee with Kansas City previously.
02:50He is back now with them, potentially third, fourth wide receiver.
02:54Jamar Chase is back at practice with the Cincinnati Bengals.
02:58Their social media account yesterday, putting out some pictures with Chase back.

03:29Meanwhile, did he catch any of the college football action this weekend?
03:32Lots of underdogs covering and even one winning outright.
03:35Georgia Tech this weekend goes to Ireland and beats Florida State.

03:49Best game of the weekend was the first game at Ireland, right down to the wire.

03:54Maybe it's a timing issue.
03:55We saw the two minute warning in play, different clock stoppage in college football.
04:00But needless to say, Mike Norvell after the game unhappy with his FSU performance and
04:04said they just simply didn't make the most of every possession they had.
04:07Just the game in general was a very limited possessions.
04:10And so, you know, the importance of every snap in that game was monumental.
04:15And, you know, I think we had seven or seven drives in the game offensively.
04:19You know, obviously they did, they did a good job there.
04:22You know, we scored, scored late, you know, and being able to finish with the ball in
04:26their hands and had the opportunity at the, at the last second kick.
04:29So, you know, it's a, for our football team, you know, it's, it's about, you know, where
04:35our response goes from here.
04:37And, you know, obviously it's, you know, we're all hurt.
04:40I mean, you, you come, you work, you, you want to start off the season a certain way.
04:44And, you know, we, we came up short of that tonight.
04:47And, you know, I, I, I think a lot of, of that Georgia Tech team and, you know, the
04:52players that they have and the things they've done and, you know, they, they,
04:55they played well tonight.
04:57One of the bigger wins for Georgia Tech in years.
05:00Meanwhile, the Virginia head coach has named a new starting quarterback.
05:05It is Anthony Calandria.
05:07He's going to start Saturday over veteran Tony Musket.
05:12He played eight, eight games last season as a true freshman.
05:15He starts for the Cavaliers this week.
05:17A very peculiar story out of Boulder, Colorado.
05:21The university says that they are banning a newspaper columnist from the Denver
05:27Post named Sean Keeler from asking questions to Deion Sanders, the head coach
05:33and other people in their program, saying that some of his questions were
05:38inappropriate and also his reference to Sanders as deposition Deion, the Bruce
05:44Lee of BS, false prophet.
05:47Again, these are his words, planet prime, Deion Kool-Aid, et cetera.
05:51They say the ban is indefinite.
05:54I believe there is an amendment in place here that doesn't allow this sort of
05:58thing, but I guess we'll keep an eye on it for you throughout the week.

06:07Apparently this would certainly change things if they allow this to happen.

08:10We've got the very latest on sports betting in Minnesota, Louisiana,
08:14and as we bring in Pat Evans, also the latest in Missouri.
08:18As Pat has, you know, been on the show last couple of weeks,
08:21we've been talking about Missouri and getting closer to at least
08:24the showing up on the ballot, but that seems to be in trouble as well.
08:29Oh, no, Pat.
08:30Is it possible that this doesn't even get to a vote?
08:32What's going on here?
08:33I mean, there's a slight possibility, but as I kind of go into it,
08:37I think it's a little bit questionable, this whole lawsuit,
08:40but, of course, that's why it's going to be heard in court.
08:43But, yeah, I mean, we're talking about this a lot, to your point,
08:46just because, as I talked about last week on the show,
08:49there's no, you know, opening up of any U.S. markets anytime soon,
08:54and this is kind of the next frontier of possibilities
08:58because it's going to be on the ballot in November,
09:00and Missourians can say, hey, yes, we want this with a simple majority.
09:04Now, what happened was, you know, earlier this month,
09:07the Secretary of State certified the signatures
09:10and the ballot question to be on the ballot.
09:13Well, last Thursday, we learned about a lawsuit that was filed
09:16by a couple of political consultants in the state,
09:19and they're arguing that the certification process
09:22for the ballot question was messed up, basically.
09:27They said that Secretary of State Jay Ashcroft
09:30used 2020 gubernatorial election results
09:33to determine how many signatures are needed
09:36in each congressional district.
09:38You know, to get on the ballot, they needed 8% of votes
09:42that were cast in the governor's election
09:45in six of eight congressional districts.
09:49Well, that's all fine and good, right?
09:51But now they're saying that he ended up using
09:54a new redrawn congressional map that was done
09:57after that gubernatorial election,
10:00and because of that, they're falling short
10:03in two extra congressional districts,
10:06so they would only have four of eight satisfied.
10:09And so they're claiming that this is a null and void
10:12and that this should not be on the ballot.
10:15You know, this is a lawsuit against the Secretary of State,
10:18winning for Missouri Education, which is the committee
10:21that has pushed the signatures and driving this whole question.
10:24They filed a motion to intervene.
10:26The court said, yeah, they can certainly intervene.
10:29And then on Friday, there was a hearing set for September 5th.
10:32So obviously this ballot question isn't up until November,
10:35so the September 5th hearing will probably tell us a whole lot.
10:39Obviously, I'm not a lawyer.
10:41I can't give legal opinions, but it is curious
10:44that this is only regarding one of the ballot questions
10:47that is on the ballot, because you would assume
10:51that they would sign it for this, they would use it for the other ones.
10:54So that's a kind of a question to kind of leave up in the air
10:57and see if anybody answers that at the higher level.
11:00Again, I don't know.
11:02It's a very curious lawsuit and certainly something
11:05we kind of expected.
11:07We don't know who this is coming from.
11:10I mean, we know the consultants who filed it,
11:13but we don't know if there's a higher party involved pushing this.
11:16You know, I think I had mentioned at one point,
11:19there's some major opposition to this ballot movement,
11:22which right now the polls show it's a fairly split issue.
11:25So could it survive a major push against it?
11:28We don't know.
11:30But yeah, a lot of attention, as we mentioned last week,
11:33is being paid to Missouri, because this is really
11:36the only frontier we're looking at that has a potential
11:39to open up even early next year.
11:42But it's a complicated mess at the moment,
11:45so we'll see what happens in the next month or two,
11:48and if it ends up on the November ballot, as it is right now.
11:51Yeah, no, it's a shame.
11:54And again, we're following, hoping that some state
11:57can get this thing legalized.
12:00I think it's in everybody's best interest.
12:03And if it's not Missouri, maybe it's Minnesota,
12:06although we've been waiting on Minnesota to have this done now
12:09for a couple of years.
12:12And boy, are we doom and gloom today, Pat,
12:15That's a good question.
12:18Again, the past two years, I've come on this show and said,
12:21I think it's a pretty good chance that Minnesota legalizes,
12:24and then they didn't.
12:27It's a very complicated state, as we've detailed many times.
12:30In any state, you need bipartisan support across the aisle
12:33to legalize sports betting, because there's naysayers
12:36on both sides who don't like gambling issues.
12:39I talked to one of the leading representatives
12:42and sponsor of the bill recently,
12:45and he just kind of laid out what's happening.
12:48He said that we weren't as close as maybe some media
12:51suggested at the end of this last session.
12:54We had heard there was a deal on the doorstep, and it was done.
12:57But he said, I know there were multiple people
13:00who didn't want it done.
13:03I don't know why. I don't have the answers,
13:06but we're going to continue to work to make sure it happens.
13:09I have two huge questions about the election this year.
13:12One is the elephant in the room of Tim Walz,
13:15a vice presidential nominee,
13:18and could be in the White House come January
13:21when the session starts.
13:24That changes things a little bit,
13:27because you get some Minnesota Senate changes,
13:30so you might have a couple special elections
13:33that could sway the Senate back from being
13:36a Republican, which would throw in some wrenches
13:39when it comes to the tribal stuff.
13:42The tribes want to get this done while Walz
13:45or this DFL gubernatorial office isn't involved,
13:48because they want to have exclusivity.
13:51The sponsor told me if the Republicans
13:54take control of any of the chambers or whatever,
13:57they could launch sports betting on their own if they wanted to,
14:00but then the Republicans could go ahead and open it
14:04in the form that we've talked about,
14:07want a piece of it, but have only been getting
14:10a little bit of revenue share from this.
14:13There's a lot of little tiny moving parts here
14:16that the election can change things,
14:19the tribes can at any point say,
14:22we don't like the way we're doing this.
14:25The Republicans can dig in their feet,
14:28which it seems like they have in the past
14:31All the representatives are up for re-election this year.
14:34This representative told me he's knocking on doors
14:37in the suburbs, and he said there's one issue,
14:40well, two issues actually, that every suburban male talks about.
14:43One is sports betting, and one is net neutrality.
14:46He says it doesn't matter, the party, Republican,
14:49Democrat, doesn't matter if they want sports betting,
14:52and he thinks that could be a big movement
14:55for some of these politicians who are out there
14:58with a lot of people, maybe it does sway
15:01a few more voters to the positive.
15:04But yeah, we're just at a weird time
15:07in this industry right now, and we'll talk about it
15:10in a second, we're kind of pivoting to online casino,
15:13because a lot of the low-hanging fruit is gone.
15:16We've got Minnesota that could get done,
15:19we have Missouri that could get done,
15:22we just saw Nebraska kind of fall short,
15:25there's all these states that could get it done,
15:28but there's so many roadblocks in the way
15:31that now we're just in a really weird spot
15:34in terms of U.S. sports betting expansion.
15:37And we can't complain about a state like Louisiana
15:40or Mississippi, at least they have something going on there,
15:43but they're trying to get online casino legislation
15:46going as well, aren't they?
15:49Yeah, so there was a bill earlier this year
15:52that should be starting up soon, probably before October,
15:55they're charged with putting together a report
15:58for the session that starts next year.
16:01Again, this is kind of one of those things,
16:04it's just we've heard a lot about states
16:07having revenue shortfalls and everything,
16:10and where's a good place to get that,
16:13especially in a state like Louisiana
16:16that has a robust casino market,
16:19so it's going to be an interesting discussion
16:22as I've seen in a couple of other states.
16:25It wouldn't surprise me, I heard rumblings
16:28that Louisiana is one of those early candidates,
16:31we have seven states that have online casino,
16:34we've heard Louisiana's one of the ones that could be next,
16:37and it could be as early as next year.
16:40Yeah, I agree.
