00:00:00Hey, Chief! I thought we agreed no restaurant work while you were on duty.
00:00:04I put half my retirement savings into this place.
00:00:06I'm here to supervise my investment.
00:00:08And I'm off duty, so let's clean this place up.
00:00:16What in the world?
00:00:22Music?
00:00:24Oh, Sarah, come on.
00:00:26No, seriously.
00:00:31Hey, we've got a need for the middle pole.
00:00:34All the way around, all the way around.
00:00:35Get it.
00:00:36There you go.
00:00:37Ah!
00:00:39Don't drop me.
00:00:40Don't throw the kid out.
00:00:41Get it.
00:00:54First, you want to try the beef.
00:00:56And then, you taste the wine.
00:00:58See, they pair together perfectly.
00:01:03It pairs together...
00:01:04Oh my goodness, this is ridiculous.
00:01:07I'm so sorry, Beth.
00:01:08Can you just...
00:01:09One minute.
00:01:26Oh, hey!
00:01:27Hey!
00:01:29I'm sorry, um...
00:01:31Aren't you the painter that...
00:01:32No.
00:01:34Not the painter.
00:01:35I was painting, we all were.
00:01:36I'm Gil Callahan.
00:01:37Former firefighter, part restaurant owner, part clerk.
00:01:41Jack Valtrese.
00:01:42Ah, Sarah Westbrook.
00:01:43Chef Westbrook.
00:01:45Well, okay, Chef Westbrook.
00:01:46What can I do for you?
00:01:47Well, you can turn down the music.
00:01:50I can't have my customers subjected to this...
00:01:53Screeching.
00:01:54Well, it's not that bad.
00:01:55This song was actually top 40 in 1986.
00:01:58So some people must like it.
00:01:59Look, I run a very elegant French restaurant.
00:02:02And this kind of noise does not exactly fit in with the ambiance.
00:02:06Now, I know the power tools are a temporary thing.
00:02:08So that, I won't make a federal case over it.
00:02:10Sure, you're on such a roll.
00:02:12Listen, clearly we are going to be appealing to vastly different clientele.
00:02:16So I'm just hoping that we can be neighborly and respectful.
00:02:20So you actually want to be neighborly and respectful?
00:02:23Well, absolutely, yes, of course.
00:02:25Well, you're doing a bang-up job establishing the tone.
00:02:28Excuse me?
00:02:28Don't you mean pardonnez-moi?
00:02:30I can see where it might be a little confusing.
00:02:33Where you might think that pardonnez-moi means pardon me as in excuse me.
00:02:37But actually pardonnez-moi means forgive me.
00:02:39And no, I don't.
00:02:40Turn down the music.
00:02:47Nice meeting you, neighbor.
00:02:53How did it go?
00:02:55He's an overgrown child.
00:02:57Who?
00:02:59The owner, or co-owner, and chef, and cook, or I don't know.
00:03:04He was painting before.
00:03:06I mean, I guess he does it all, including being a sarcastic jerk.
00:03:08If he says that I'm not neighborly, that's hilarious.
00:03:11Oh, seems like someone made an impression.
00:03:14Is he cute?
00:03:17He is, isn't he, Sarah?
00:03:19Oh, Patsy, you've got a one-track mind.
00:03:22I know.
00:03:26Oh, no.
00:03:27What?
00:03:28It's nothing. It's junk mail.
00:03:30Dad, how exactly am I supposed to get this paint out of my hair?
00:03:34Make some turpentine in your baby shampoo.
00:03:35I'm pretty sure I have some in the garage.
00:03:37Bring me some diet root beer while you're out there.
00:03:40Well, there's a smart idea.
00:03:42As Mom would say, still can look at your man.
00:03:44You're right. That is what Mom would say.
00:03:49You know she's always watching over you, don't you?
00:03:51Yeah.
00:03:53I know she's watching over me.
00:03:56I still really miss her.
00:04:00I do, too.
00:04:14We're doing it, Kate.
00:04:16We're finally opening a restaurant.
00:04:18You're gonna love it.
00:04:25Hi, Dave.
00:04:28Hi, my girl.
00:04:32Come here.
00:04:37You think I'm neighborly, right?
00:04:42Ready with that cream?
00:04:43Yep. Both the cream and my arm are almost completely done.
00:04:55No.
00:05:11Chocolate, yeah.
00:05:15That's lovely. That is just lovely.
00:05:17I was impressed with my class in the Code Bleu for nothing.
00:05:20Voila.
00:05:21Here's your chocolate.
00:05:22There you go.
00:05:22Merci.
00:05:25Hey, what are you doing?
00:05:44I just saw something covered in chocolate and whipped cream go by.
00:05:47Can we get some dessert?
00:05:49Honey, we're not dressed for that place.
00:05:51Dad.
00:05:52Come on, let's just finish up.
00:05:53I'll buy you an ice cream.
00:05:59Looks like it's going to be a bit colder in the base in Vista Grande, but we could sure
00:06:03use the rain.
00:06:04Thanks, Storm.
00:06:05And that's your Channel 17 weekend weather forecast from Storm Collins.
00:06:08And now, Redmond Roads has the place to dine this weekend in the Central Valley.
00:06:13Thank you, Nora.
00:06:14And yes, indeed, last night I had probably the most amazing meal I've ever had, which
00:06:19is why Redmond Roads restaurant recommendation for this weekend takes us to the city of Merced
00:06:24and a delightful eating establishment called Little Italy, where the pasta was not only
00:06:29spectacular, but, and this is rare these days, Nora, entirely homemade.
00:06:34That sounds delicious.
00:06:36Little Italy had big flavor, huh, Redmond?
00:06:38Yes, indeed, Nora.
00:06:40But not big prices.
00:06:41I'm Redmond Roads.
00:06:42Anna, can you take these out to the trash?
00:06:47Then we can head out.
00:06:56Oh!
00:06:57I'm sorry.
00:06:58I'm sorry.
00:06:59I didn't mean to scare you.
00:07:00I apologize.
00:07:01Here's your book.
00:07:02Les Miserables.
00:07:03It's a wonderful book.
00:07:05You speak French?
00:07:06Yes.
00:07:07Oui, je parle.
00:07:08I speak.
00:07:09I lived in France for several years.
00:07:11Is it beautiful?
00:07:12It is.
00:07:13It's just, it's gorgeous.
00:07:15My mom was really into French stuff.
00:07:18Yeah?
00:07:19This was her book.
00:07:20We were reading it together.
00:07:23We even planned a family vacation to Paris.
00:07:26Ah, you were.
00:07:27You were planning.
00:07:28What happened?
00:07:31My mom had cancer.
00:07:34She got better.
00:07:35We were all going to go to Paris together.
00:07:38She never did get better.
00:07:40Anna, I'm sorry.
00:07:42I'm really sorry, honey.
00:07:45It's fine.
00:07:47Yeah, I gotcha.
00:07:49I gotcha.
00:07:51I studied French last year in school.
00:07:53Did you?
00:07:54Well, très bien.
00:07:56Nous devrions parler français.
00:07:58Okay, um, you said something like, that's good?
00:08:03Yes.
00:08:04And that we can talk in French?
00:08:06Exactement.
00:08:07Very good.
00:08:08If you ever want to speak French, just, uh, you know, I'm the chef next door in the restaurant.
00:08:13Come on over and we'll talk any time you want.
00:08:17Thanks.
00:08:18You're welcome.
00:08:19I saw someone order this chocolate thing with whipped cream on it.
00:08:22It looked amazing.
00:08:24Yes.
00:08:25Did you make that?
00:08:26I certainly did.
00:08:27Crêpe au chocolat, chocolate crepes.
00:08:29I'll make them for you any time.
00:08:30Just come on over, all right?
00:08:33You're welcome.
00:08:34I'm Sarah.
00:08:35I'm Hannah.
00:08:36Hannah.
00:08:37Nice to meet you.
00:08:38Au revoir, Sarah.
00:08:39Au revoir, Hannah.
00:08:41À tout à l'heure.
00:08:47Hey, tell Taylor I said hi.
00:08:50I will.
00:08:51All right.
00:08:52You two have a good night.
00:08:53See you later.
00:08:54Well, we're finished, kiddo.
00:08:55Tomorrow's opening day.
00:08:56We gotta celebrate.
00:08:57Well, can we go next door and get that chocolate crepe thing?
00:08:58Really?
00:08:59That's what you want to do?
00:09:00Because I was thinking pizza and a movie.
00:09:01Dad, come on.
00:09:02How much do you think we're going to go out to you when you're running your own restaurant?

00:10:55you know what Hannah I absolutely felt the same way when I was your age
00:10:59honestly you don't know what you're missing it's very very delicious but I
00:11:02respect your views what else looks good what is a beef
00:11:07carpaccio beef carpaccio it's a raw beef and it's cooked very lightly in a lemon
00:11:11juice anyway you just have the whole roasted chicken that's simple enough
00:11:14actually no she'll have the beef bourguignon which is just basically beef
00:11:17stew with a better publicist I'll have the duck confit confit duck confit an
00:11:22excellent choice
00:11:29she's really nice isn't she
00:11:38one beef bourguignon and a duck confit please your new little friend is with
00:11:44her father who also happens to be the jerk next door really the firefighter
00:11:50he's so handsome no he's not he's a barbarian he called my beef bourguignon
00:11:55beef stew I know get back to work
00:12:07why are you making us do this in the rain and the fog and the cold and as we
00:12:12taste everything we cook and everything we cook has butter in it not that much
00:12:16that's we buy 35 pounds of butter every week yes and sometimes we have some
00:12:20leftover yeah oh yeah how are you running off the butter I think you're
00:12:25running off the fight with mr. handsome firefighter would you stop calling him
00:12:28that besides it's healthy to run off negative feeling it's not healthy it's
00:12:33not healthy when you're this old so okay then let's slow down as I was saying it
00:12:38is not healthy to replace your attraction with exercise you know just
00:12:42because you get hot and sweaty out here doesn't mean you're still not all hot
00:12:46and bothered about him Patsy please besides I you know I cannot believe that
00:12:50he is Hannah's father such a sweet wonderful little girl how could she have
00:12:55such a cretin for a father maybe he's not such a cretin after all

00:14:09you
00:14:39you
00:15:09you
00:15:39you
00:15:56what are you doing well you know how we used to initiate rookies into the
00:16:01firehouse yeah well I think our new neighbor deserves an initiation of her
00:16:05own so you're gonna haze snooty McQuenshin no I'm not hazing her I'm
00:16:08just welcoming her creatively to the neighborhood you realize that we're the
00:16:12new ones here right semantics
00:16:21chef Westbrook yeah the woman at table six says she wants the gnocchi marinara
00:16:26special I'm sorry what she said it was on our specials board we don't I want to
00:16:35see
00:16:42barbarian he's messing with it it's kind of funny when you think about it okay
00:16:51it's not funny it's uh it's clever hey I mean it's not clever
00:16:57all right well thanks for coming you guys come again bring your kids I can't
00:17:01was incredible forget the pasta I have never had French tempura before so
00:17:07unique
00:17:17hey Hannah hey Sarah hey how are you what are you doing I'm going down to the
00:17:22bookstore dad gave me money to buy some new books oh that's nice of him were you
00:17:28at a yoga class yes yes I was it's a great way to relieve stress from work
00:17:32stress you know you should work with the firemen yeah why because I think I've
00:17:40never seen stress I mean even at the fire station they're always goofing
00:17:44around and playing dumb games and playing pranks on each other
00:17:47Frank's really yeah they're about as mature as the boys in my class sounds
00:17:51about right hey would you mind if I walked down to the bookstore with you
00:17:54sure yeah all right um so wait a minute you said something about pranks I play
00:17:59a lot of pranks on each other what yeah well one time
00:18:13are we expecting a run on quiches no not exactly what are you doing then hard
00:18:19boiling eggs why well I thought the five alarm girl guys might find them an
00:18:23interesting challenge oh my god you're gonna replace their eggs with hard
00:18:28boiled ones okay now that's funny just a little thank you for their unexpected
00:18:34input to my menu how can I help
00:18:40excuse me well hello there how may I be of service well I just had the best food
00:18:48here the other day and I wanted to personally thank the chef chefs everyone
00:18:53everyone involved in making the deliciousness that's I enjoyed
00:19:03yo Danny get out here for a second
00:19:14hi hey you're the chef I'm one of them this is Danny I'm Gil good to see you
00:19:19nice to meet you welcome good firm handshake
00:19:49these are hard-boiled these are all hard-boiled amateur okay well looks like
00:20:03we're having a deviled egg special in honor of the devil next door okay man
00:20:06I'm with you thank you grab me the bacon from the fridge
00:20:11pretend pigs soy vegan pork substitute Gil no one should have to eat this stuff
00:20:21oh nice touch neighbor game on um this man says that he's here from the health
00:20:31department something about an anonymous tip that the restaurant was in need of
00:20:35an inspection
00:20:47oh no did someone have a little visitor from the county health department
00:21:04oh well she's in over her head put in another CD yeah Bach Mozart Wagner Verdi
00:21:21and Stravinsky Wow seriously
00:21:30I suppose you have an opinion on our music yes yes I do actually it's
00:21:34beautiful feel free to turn that up have a good one
00:21:47Patsy hmm why did I open a restaurant in a recession is it bad no it's about the
00:21:57same it's just eventually it's not gonna cut it we're just getting by at
00:22:01this point well what can we change well obviously my postcards didn't work
00:22:06nor did the coupons in the newspapers we have to people I've got another we're
00:22:11here you know we got a maybe that's not the problem I mean I need the the
00:22:16restaurant is lovely really but your prices are higher than a lot of other
00:22:19places nearby I mean the five alarm grill doesn't seem to be suffering
00:22:22because of the economy you know the fun our prices are higher because the
00:22:26quality of our ingredients is higher we have artful presentation no no that is
00:22:30part of the problem too I mean I look because high-end fare is not family
00:22:34friendly I mean last month you refused to serve a family ketchup for their
00:22:37little girl it look perhaps if you serve simpler fare than maybe I'd say I'm a
00:22:42classically trained French chef I'm not going to dumb down my food we've got a
00:22:46beef up our marketing efforts and now we welcome Redmond roads who has the place
00:22:54to eat this week oh my gosh that's it that's perfect what what rustling up
00:23:00some magic at the Fair Oaks cafe the channel 17 news anchor Redmond roads he
00:23:05does a weekly restaurant recommendation and last week they did a show in the
00:23:08seafood place down the street and I walked by on Saturday there was a line
00:23:12at the door this is so what I'm gonna do this is unbelievably perfect wait a
00:23:15minute hold on I'm gonna email them and it's free publicity Patsy it's free
00:23:25thank you very much have a good day
00:23:33Hannah I see you everywhere now you shopping for onions yeah my dad sent me
00:23:40over here to get some he'll be back in a minute ah all right well um it was good
00:23:45to see you all right I gotta rush off but I'll see you around
00:23:49Sarah do you know which kind I should get because my dad said to get two
00:23:54dozen but I didn't know there were so many times uh yeah that's actually a
00:23:59really good question because there's a bunch of different varieties that we use
00:24:01for different things the yellow onions are really good for sauteing good for
00:24:06sauces and soups creams but those are the ones that make you cry a lot the
00:24:10Spanish onion now this one is a little bit sweeter you're gonna want to use
00:24:15this one for onion rings okay we need those I figured as much now red onions
00:24:20are really the only onions that you're gonna want to eat raw I'm going to
00:24:24assume that your dad's gonna be putting these on burgers and sandwiches you're
00:24:27right well listen I really do have to rush off but um you'll come speak
00:24:33French with me sometime yeah all right all right kiddo chef Westbrook helping
00:24:43you pick out some onions huh yeah you know those are actually really good
00:24:46onions you know what these are for these are for juggling
00:24:54dad you need Sarah not like each other or something
00:25:02I wouldn't say we don't like each other she's a bit um okay I'm you know what
00:25:08dad answer the question these are juggling potatoes
00:25:18hey dad I'm gonna hang on next door poor Paul a front layer that Sarah okay
00:25:24Hannah sure what's the matter uh well I just bought all this crab at the market
00:25:30and I was gonna make the crab cakes that we made the other night oh those were
00:25:33really good yeah those were good these are not Gil you just dropped a bunch of
00:25:38cash on some crab and put a big sign outside that announces we're having
00:25:41crab cake as a special are you telling me we're not serving well I'm not gonna
00:25:45serve crab mush sandwiches not to mention the mush I've got going here
00:25:48doesn't taste right so as far as the customers are concerned we're out of
00:25:52crab at 11 o'clock in the morning
00:26:08hey Hannah you here to speak some French mademoiselle actually I need a favor
00:26:19yes
00:26:25hmm did your dad change the recipe at all no my dad doesn't use recipes he
00:26:31says cooking is about instinct you just know when it's good
00:26:35well clearly that's not true um all right what we've got here is crab eggs
00:26:43breadcrumbs probably some mayonnaise some Dijon mustard lemon juice from a
00:26:49bottle unfortunately black pepper on some green onion and way too much dill
00:26:57you're like a food psychic yes I am and my psychic powers tells me that your dad
00:27:02made a little bit more than usually makes today yeah he did yeah yeah see
00:27:06you know some recipes you can't multiply without making changes you know the
00:27:10proportions are probably all off
00:27:13well you have to try this thanks Sarah you're welcome my pleasure you know I
00:27:19gotta tell you you're like a natural-born chef you know that if you
00:27:23ever want a lesson feel free to come over and we'll speak a little French
00:27:26while we're doing it we
00:27:33um you know Hannah can I ask a question why did your dad decide to open up a
00:27:42restaurant
00:27:46um a few months after my mom died dad had about this really big scary fire
00:27:53and ceiling being for like a foot in front of him after that I didn't want to
00:28:00be a firefighter anymore
00:28:05he used to cook for the whole fire station so they all decide to open a
00:28:10restaurant together that's a great idea he sounds like a good dad he's the best
00:28:18thank you you're welcome
00:28:23and Hannah tell him to try some fresh lemon zest it's fresh lemon peel maybe
00:28:29some capers too
00:28:34oh wow bye sweetie
00:28:46Sarah Westbrook that was very friendly of you
00:28:54anyway I think that uh Hannah's dad and you have a little uncommon like what
00:28:59honey loss is a loss
00:29:10put that back outside make crab cakes on the menu after all
00:29:16oh
00:29:20capers nice touch
00:29:27those are really good you know what Sarah totally saved the day you did good

00:29:56obsessed you've emailed him you left messages at the station you send that
00:30:02guy one more note he's not gonna be doing a story on shave or Ren he's gonna
00:30:05be reporting on a local restaurant tour who's stalking him though that could
00:30:09work too if you're interested in another angle it's not funny it's a little funny
00:30:25so Taylor Hannah how is it growing up in a restaurant huh not that different from
00:30:30growing up in a firehouse yeah loud guys and tons of food that is why you're
00:30:36starting dance classes Monday so you can totally girl out then can Hannah sleep
00:30:40over yeah sure why not I guess so if it's our day off tomorrow what am I

00:32:46local animal shelters are asking for donations to help with the game
00:32:50sorry about that
00:32:52so what you don't like Indian food?
00:32:54because I've been to that place it's got amazing chicken vindaloo
00:32:57really no no no I love Indian food I'm sure it's wonderful it's just I was uh kind of
00:33:03stupid
00:33:05you were hoping Redmond Road's restaurant recommendation for this weekend would be Chez Varen?
00:33:11listen I don't want to sound
00:33:13I don't know but who cares what a toupee with a suit thinks right?
00:33:18well apparently a lot of people do because his broadcast has been known to have some very positive influence on restaurants
00:33:26I was just hoping for maybe a little bit of a boost my restaurant needs
00:33:31little boost
00:33:35I'm closed on Mondays
00:33:37I know you're closed too
00:33:39I was wondering if I could take you to lunch
00:33:42this is a thank you

00:33:59okay
00:34:02thank you

00:34:15never been taken to a food truck before
00:34:18trust me
00:34:20oh wow
00:34:28wow
00:34:29I'm back
00:34:31brought a new kid
00:34:35is this the best shrimp sandwich you've ever had?
00:34:37the best not only the first but the best yes
00:34:42so the shrimp is marinated in a coconut bourbon reduction yes?
00:34:47yep
00:34:49and I do believe I detect some Thai basil
00:34:52poblano chili
00:34:54a little bit of garlic and well green curry obviously
00:34:58wow yes exactly that's
00:35:01Hannah was right you're like a food psychic

00:35:21hey hey hey

00:35:49where are you going? I got the keys
00:35:52it's beautiful
00:35:56oh hey look
00:35:58huh?
00:35:59look at this
00:36:01aww
00:36:02like a little daisy
00:36:04daisy
00:36:05it's my cat's name
00:36:07oh yeah?
00:36:08yeah
00:36:09is that your favorite flower?
00:36:10oh my mom's
00:36:11my mom's favorite flowers are daisies
00:36:13oh
00:36:14it's a nice tribute
00:36:16where did the name Chez Varenne come from?
00:36:18well Francois Pierre de la Varenne
00:36:20was one of the founding fathers of French cuisine
00:36:23back in the time of Louis XIV
00:36:25I don't know when you think of the mastery that is
00:36:28French cooking
00:36:29you know the precision and the technique
00:36:31you think Varenne
00:36:32voila
00:36:33Chez Varenne
00:36:34huh
00:36:35really what?
00:36:36I'm just wondering why you would
00:36:38pick such a sentimental name for your cat but not your restaurant
00:36:41well a cat is a living breathing thing that you care for you
00:36:44yeah but so is a restaurant
00:36:46in order for it to thrive it needs
00:36:48love
00:36:49attention
00:36:51it needs community
00:36:54and how's that any different from a pet?
00:36:58but it could be raw
00:36:59oh I think it's a very good point
00:37:07what?
00:37:08I just wanted to let you know that um
00:37:12Hannah told me about your wife
00:37:14and I wanted to say

00:37:18but that obviously you
00:37:20are doing an amazing
00:37:22job with Hannah
00:37:24oh thank you
00:37:25she's a big fan of yours by the way

00:53:29is it like really good or is it just good for a kid
00:53:32what's kid good
00:53:33you know it's good for a kid but not an adult or you say it is
00:53:36but it's not that good because you don't want to hurt my feelings
00:53:38well personally I think that it's grown up delicious
00:53:40but what do I know I'm just your dumb old dad why don't we ask an expert Sarah
00:53:43mademoiselle Callahan ce diner est délicieux
00:53:46no that's not fair I don't know what she said
00:53:48she said
00:53:50she said miss Callahan
00:53:53dinner is delicious
00:53:55très bien
00:53:57the most important lesson for a chef to learn
00:54:00is to eat our own food before it gets cold
00:54:06what is this this is some sort of cream
00:54:09it's like a
00:54:10bechamel
00:54:11bechamel
00:54:12très bien
00:54:19okay I'm going to go do the dishes
00:54:21absolutely not you cook I clean those are the rules
00:54:24no you don't make me do all the dishes when you cook
00:54:26well I can certainly help do the dishes let's all do them together
00:54:28you're going to teach me how to make bread tomorrow
00:54:30I am
00:54:31yes
00:54:32okay I'm going to do the dishes no arguments
00:54:34by all means
00:54:36thank you
00:54:37merci mademoiselle
00:54:41she really is a lovely young lady
00:54:44thank you
00:54:46you're welcome
00:54:47I worry that she's growing up too fast
00:54:50she feels she has to take care of me now that her mom's gone
00:54:54thank you for coming
00:54:56by the way
00:54:57meant a lot to her
00:54:58and thanks for this this was delicious
00:55:01and it's a work of art it's almost architectural
00:55:04that would be French cuisine for you
00:55:06that's French cooking
00:55:08very specific very technical
00:55:11yes probably exactly the reason I was attracted to it
00:55:13how so
00:55:14when I was a kid my parents and I used to go to this little place called Francoise
00:55:19in the town that I grew up we used to go every Sunday for breakfast
00:55:22and when my parents passed my grandparents had to sell their house
00:55:26and so no more
00:55:29and I would just go back every once in a while
00:55:32to just feel close to them there
00:55:36and one day I found myself being hired as a waitress there
00:55:41which was really nice
00:55:43and a few months after that a line cook got sick and they asked me to help out
00:55:47which was even better
00:55:49and for the first time since my parents died
00:55:56I felt like I was home again in that kitchen
00:56:05you're an excellent cook
00:56:07thank you
00:56:08I mean I threw Italian, Japanese, Greek food at you
00:56:13you'd have thought you were trained in all those cuisines too
00:56:15have you ever thought of um
00:56:17I don't know straying from such traditional French dishes
00:56:21well French food is definitely that it's very precise very exacting very detailed
00:56:26but at least I know that there's a right way and a wrong way to do things
00:56:30and I find it very comforting because uh
00:56:32because the rest of the universe does not exactly follow those rules all the time does it
00:56:37when Kate died it was just so ridiculous I'm a firefighter
00:56:39I go to work every day I know I'm putting my life on the line
00:56:43but the whole idea that she was at home
00:56:46and she was in danger
00:56:48oh oh
00:56:50what?
00:56:51excuse me
00:56:53I'm sorry
00:56:54are you okay over there? Bubbles?
00:56:58sorry

00:57:18sure
00:57:21she's pretty
00:57:24don't you think she's pretty?
00:57:26what's up kiddo?
00:57:28before mom died
00:57:31she said that one day you'd meet someone really nice
00:57:35you might even want to get married again
00:57:37she said that you might feel like you're a cheat on her even though she's not here anymore
00:57:41and that I'd help you move on
00:57:46listen I know that you like Sarah
00:57:51but are you really ready for me to date?
00:57:56yeah
00:58:01I mean I think so
00:58:07mom was right you shouldn't have to be alone
00:58:10you know what?
00:58:12you're just like her
00:58:14I am?
00:58:15yeah
00:58:17I can't hear her anymore
00:58:19what?
00:58:20mom's voice
00:58:23I used to hear her in my head
00:58:27telling me that she loved me
00:58:32to do my homework
00:58:37brush my hair
00:58:42now it's all gone
00:58:46that's what happens to everyone who loses somebody they love
00:58:49kiddo that's just your mind's way of protecting you
00:58:54making you forget a little bit so that your heart doesn't keep breaking
00:59:09I love you
00:59:11I love you
00:59:16Katsy so is the front of the house good to go?
00:59:19yeah of course
00:59:21oh um

01:00:07Sarah I know you said no when I asked you out
01:00:10but I was really hoping you'd reconsider

01:01:50Mike is on duty at the firehouse and Danny and Gil are both with Hannah at the hospital
01:01:55and frankly I should join them because they're gonna give me a pounding when they find out what I did to their kitchen
01:02:00there's nothing left to serve it's all covered in flame retardant

01:02:41um would you come and help me run Gil's kitchen?
01:02:45Hannah's hurt and you know the last thing he needs is to lose business and come back to a mess

01:08:10really
01:08:12I'm just happy to help
01:08:14and actually I was really hoping we could
01:08:16maybe finish the conversation
01:08:18that
01:08:20we had started earlier
01:08:22I'd like that
01:08:24Sarah
01:08:26get in here right now
01:08:28hurry
01:08:30what is wrong
01:08:32the restaurant thing is
01:08:34on the news
01:08:36oh my god you scared me
01:08:38I thought that something was on fire
01:08:40it could be us one night
01:08:42that I got a little over excited
01:08:44and now Redmond Roads has the place to eat this weekend
01:08:46thank you Nora
01:08:48well this week's recommendation
01:08:50brought us to Vista Grande
01:08:52but here's the thing Nora there's a little twist in this tale
01:08:54you see
01:08:56there's a delightful charming little French restaurant
01:08:58there called Chez Varenne
01:09:00the owner and chef has been courting yours
01:09:02for some time now to come down there
01:09:04and try a meal
01:09:06well the other evening while we had every intention of eating
01:09:08at Chez Varenne I couldn't help but notice
01:09:10a new addition to the neighborhood
01:09:12just next door in fact
01:09:14it was a high energy home cooking establishment
01:09:16called the Five Alarm Grill
01:09:18it's run entirely by firefighters
01:09:20from local station 4
01:09:22who serve up traditional and delicious
01:09:24rib sticking dinners
01:09:26here's the thing Nora us civilians don't have to slide down a pole
01:09:28to get them
01:09:30or go into a burning building I hope
01:09:32no way no way
01:09:34and that's why the Redmond Roads restaurant recommendation
01:09:36by the way is the Five Alarm Grill
