00:00Hi, I'm Liberty from NME. I'm here at Reading Festival 2024 with Military Gun. How are you
00:11guys doing? We're doing pretty terrible right now. You're enjoying the weather? It's really
00:16sucks outside. We flew from Spain at 6am. So we're we're like literally straight from
00:26the airport into this shit rain. Yeah, well, you've got Leeds tomorrow that might be a
00:30bit better. Plus, you never know it might clear up. See what you're telling me Leeds
00:34is usually worse on the weather front. So I don't know what to believe. Stranger things
00:38have happened. Just you'll be alright. We cope well in the rain. Like you're gonna have
00:43a good audience. I'm sure. I'm sure the audience be great. Okay, so like you say you've been
00:47on tour across Europe. Have you been finding it? We love it. I mean, mainland Europe is
00:53very tame. We're very excited to be back in the UK where where people are fun again.
00:58Because I feel like life under the gun has been huge across Europe, especially here in
01:02the UK. What's it been like seeing that response? I mean, it started in in the UK really. I mean,
01:08like, our record release day, we played Outbreak Festival and had this crazy set. So it's cool to,
01:17you know, just come back a bunch of it. We've been we've been here like, I think it's like
01:22our sixth time since the record's been out. So it's nice to it's nice to know we're not
01:28wasting our time with all these flights. You know, have you noticed a difference between
01:32fans in the UK versus in the States? Fans in the UK are pretty similar to fans in the
01:40States. I think there's like not as big of a cultural difference between UK fans and,
01:49and American fans, but mainland European fans are very different than than than the American fans.
02:00Okay, so we recently saw you release Thought You Were Waving.
02:03Why did that feel like it was the right song to be the first of 2024?
02:08It was a song that we just had been marinating on for so long. And and that I feel like it's
02:13the thing that we always kind of loop back to with what we want to say with the band of
02:17of trying to step outside of ourselves in a way to like, read that someone else is struggling.
02:24And yeah, it was just like, especially for it being summer, it was like we wanted to really
02:31drop like a very fun, bummer summer track, you know, like we wanted to make it felt like it
02:40felt like summer, but it felt sad. So it seemed like exactly the way that we go about things.
02:48I mean, I feel like that's very fitting today. Like you're saying that sat in a hoodie that's
02:51like drenched in rainwater. Yeah. You're gonna break out tonight?
02:57Tonight? Yeah, we'll definitely plan it. Yeah, play it every day.
03:00Okay. And also recently, you released your track as part of WWE 2K24. Tell me a bit about how that
03:07rose. I just got a text one morning, saying Post Malone wanted a wrestling intro, and they wanted
03:14me to write it. I think he procrastinated doing it for a really long time. Like he was supposed
03:21to write his own. And then they had me do it instead. It was pretty, pretty funny. And then
03:30David I texted on the morning I was like, I just recorded these guitar parts. Can you do a drum
03:34part for me ASAP? And he thought that it was going to be something that'd be like re-recorded later.
03:38And it was not. And I think he was bummed on that.
03:43Were you bummed? Tiny, tiny bit.
03:46Is that how you found out that he was a fan of yours?
03:49No, we had been friends with him now for probably a year at that point.
03:56I just got a text one day when we dropped Do It Faster that he was a big fan of that song.
03:59And that he wanted to hang out. And so that happened. And then just recently, we all got to go
04:09hang out with him in Paris for two days when he played the Louvre. It was a crazy, crazy time.
04:16So were you a fan of him beforehand? Did he have any influence on your own music?
04:21I wouldn't say he's influencing our music. I love pop music. I love Post Malone's music. I've been
04:27a fan of his for a long time. I think Better Now was the first song that I got into from him.
04:35And yeah, I've been a big fan. I think all of us have been fans of his.
04:42Help is now the band's anthem after shows.
04:46Yeah, we're always going to help. We're really looking for help today.
04:50Do you reckon you could see yourself collaborating with him in the future? Is that on the cards?
04:54Yeah, he always talks about it, but I don't believe that he's down. So I don't think it'll ever happen.
05:00You need to push him on it. You need to make it happen.
05:03Yeah, we can't push him. He's the superstar. We're not the superstar. We have no pull in the
05:09situation. So he could say that he wants to do it. But that doesn't mean really anything at all for us.
05:17Unless he's like, yo, do it. Let's do it today.
05:20Are there any other dream collaborations that you guys have?
05:23Dream collaborations? I'll pass that one to David.
05:27And I'll pass that one to Waylon. And I'll answer for Will, Gorillaz.
05:34We want to hear Will on a Gorillaz song. He's not happy. He's so sad right now. He's so sad.
05:46We would love to do a song with Isaac Brock from Modest Mouse.
05:50We would love to sing on a Gorillaz song, if ever that was a possibility. That's it.
05:57That's what comes to mind.
05:58And then what's in the pipeline for you guys? What's coming up next?
06:03We have a lot of US touring. And then we are going to be making our record in the early
06:08part of next year. We've been writing it for quite some time and we're ready to start recording it.
06:15What can you tell us about the album so far? How's it maybe different from the debut?
06:19It's just better. It's just better in every way. It's catchier. It's more
06:27bold in its decisions. And we're just trying to make a record we really want to hear. And that's
06:32the first priority. And I've been listening to some of these songs for almost two years now.
06:38And I think that by all said and done, we'll make a record that we really like.
06:43Thank you so much, guys.
06:44Thank you so much. Thank you for having us.
