00:00Here in Uganda, authorities have all hands on deck to fight the new, more transmissible
00:05strain of Mpox that was first reported in the country last month.
00:10To better detect the virus and prevent further spreading, border controls are also in place,
00:15like here on the country's border with Kenya, where travellers have strict hygiene practices
00:19to adhere to.
00:20All travellers coming through Uganda, from Rwanda, Burundi, Southern Sudan and Uganda
00:29actually must pass through our screening desk. We have a thermal scanner where it is able
00:36to pick the temperature of that traveller.
00:39Any travellers coming from countries affected by the virus are placed in isolation.
00:44Uganda's other neighbour, the Democratic Republic of Congo, is seen as the epicentre of the
00:48virus where an outbreak is underway.
00:51And with both cases and deaths rising, the World Health Organization has declared it
00:55a global public health emergency.
00:58The international community is now pushing to source enough vaccines.
01:02France, Belgium, Japan and the US will donate doses, and the Centre for Disease Control
01:08and Prevention in Africa has pledged to deliver 10 million doses by 2025.
01:13End of next week, vaccines will start to arrive in DRC and other countries. We need to make
01:18sure that the supply chain management and the logistics are ready to ensure that this
01:22vaccine will be safely stored and can be safely administered to people who need them.
01:27The WHO has warned that Mpox is not the new Covid-19, as so much is known about the virus
01:34and how to control its spread.
