00:00Sydney's new metro line is put to the test.
00:07Tuesday is the big test because of those travelling patterns.
00:10We do see more people travel on Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Thursdays.
00:14The people we spoke to were impressed.
00:16Oh, so much easier.
00:17It took about five or six minutes off my commute.
00:20It was fantastic.
00:21It was amazing.
00:22I'm actually so excited.
00:24It's like a combination of Disneyland, the Tokyo bullet train and lashed with silicon
00:29valley technology.
00:30It's fantastic.
00:31Around 190,000 passengers travelled on 425 metro services yesterday.
00:3840,000 trips were made during the morning peak.
00:42That grew dramatically this morning with 55,000 people jumping on board the new trains.
00:48These initial passenger numbers are very encouraging.
00:51We are monitoring this service minute by minute and we hope that more people will try this
00:57brand new service.
00:59Communities between Sydenham and Bankstown will soon see their line shut down for a year
01:04to be converted to the metro system.
01:07The minister says the success of the new line should serve as a light at the end of the
01:11tunnel for those travellers.
01:13We will begin that conversion period soon and we want to make sure that we are delivering
01:18on the promise for those communities.
01:20Authorities say the biggest stress test for the new line is today's evening peak.
01:26Central station is the busiest of the nine stops, but things here are running smoothly.
01:32New businesses in stations like Victoria Cross are also beginning to reap the rewards.
01:38It's been crazy, yeah.
01:39I think we were expecting it to be crazy with all the excitement and anticipation builds
01:44around the metro.
01:45A smooth ride so far for Sydney's newest piece of infrastructure.
