00:00Hello there, welcome to your Tuesday evening weather update from the Met Office.
00:05Now wet weather will arrive across the western side of the country as we head through into
00:10Wednesday morning, all courtesy of an active jet stream which is allowing these areas of
00:15low pressure to develop and delivering them to the UK.
00:19You can see the strong winds of the jet stream just pushing down across the country through
00:24Tuesday into Wednesday and beyond.
00:27And that's the reason why the weather has been so mobile over the last few days and
00:31also wet at times.
00:33So on Wednesday morning, a yellow warning for rain kicks in from 9am across western
00:39Scotland.
00:40Expect 50-100mm of rain if not more over the higher ground and a real squeeze on the isobars
00:46so gales will develop as well.
00:49And these strong winds will extend down towards the Irish Sea from Wednesday and into Thursday.
00:53Currently though, through Tuesday evening, it's pleasant outside across much of England
00:56and Wales.
00:57Showers across north-west England, frequent bursts across Scotland with the odd rumble
01:01of thunder and we lose the shower risk across Northern Ireland around midnight.
01:05Showers become few and far between into the early hours of Wednesday morning across Scotland
01:10as well as the winds ease and clearer skies further south and east as we head into morning
01:16time.
01:17Temperatures then on the low side, it's going to feel chilly across Scotland and Northern
01:20Ireland, even rural spots across England and Wales, but notice waiting in the wings
01:24that cloud and also outbreaks of rain.
01:27However, first thing tomorrow morning, many areas getting away with a fine morning with
01:31some sunshine.
01:32It will be cool, at least though you'll see some brighter skies and then thickening cloud
01:37through the morning will eventually bring some outbreaks of rain to western Scotland.
01:41Rain then moves in across Northern Ireland, but it's not likely to pep up until probably
01:45mid to late morning.
01:47We hang on to some sunshine across eastern Scotland, north-east Scotland, much of England
01:50and Wales, although a few showers ahead of the main rain band across the north-west of
01:55England and the far north-west of Wales, but notice by lunchtime the rain has become persistent
02:01and heavy across western Scotland and then the winds pick up further strength, so expect
02:05some choppy seas, particularly across the western coast of Scotland, Northern Ireland
02:09and Irish Sea coast through the afternoon.
02:11We hang on to brighter weather from the midlands, mid-Wales, southwards, a bit blustery here
02:15even so, feeling pleasant in any sunshine, but notice this rain does extend towards
02:21Aberdeenshire up towards Orkney and Shetland through the afternoon, but persistent along
02:25that western side through the latter part of the day.
02:28Here are your temperatures, fairly low across Scotland and Northern Ireland, 16 or 17, we
02:32could squeeze a 23 across East Anglia, 20 for the eastern side of Wales.
02:38That weather warning extends into Thursday and again we'll see strong winds, if not gales
02:42for a time, and then another batch of rain moves in through Thursday night and into Friday.
02:48That clears off the scene, but it could linger on across the far south-east into Saturday
02:52and then notice still windy across Scotland into Saturday, further south we'll see some
02:57fine conditions coming through and a better day all round on Sunday.
03:02Before that though, on Wednesday night, that rain continues to be persistent and notice
03:07this driving southwest wind, bringing some mild conditions, but also strong winds across
03:12the north as well as the west.
03:14The winds then pick up across eastern Scotland through the night.
03:17That rain then extends into Northern England as we head into Thursday morning, lingering
03:22on into the afternoon, drier skies elsewhere, some showery bursts can't be ruled out though,
03:27and temperatures typically 17 to 20 degrees Celsius.
03:30And your outlook then as we head through to Friday, yes we'll see a lingering amount of
03:35clouds, even spits and spots of rain towards the south-east, elsewhere some showers in
03:38the mix, temperatures on the up a little bit.
