00:00Foster care is a program where they take children from homes where they're being abused, molested and neglected.
00:06They take them out of that environment and place them in the same exact environment.
00:14I was just sitting at my desk and Googled foster care statistics.
00:18Out of the 1.6 million people incarcerated in the U.S., 1.2 million had spent time in care.
00:25Children in foster care suffer from post-traumatic stress disorder twice the rate as our combat that's coming back from the front line.
00:36You just have to go and talk to these kids.
00:43Every time a child is placed into a new environment, they are experiencing some type of anxiety, some type of trauma.
00:49There's issues of trust. As a foster parent, I'm a stranger to that child.
00:52They're asking questions. Why am I here? When do I go home? Did I do something wrong? Does mommy not love me anymore?
01:03You know, the hardest thing is to bring in a strange young person who's been through extreme trauma and try to change their framework of thinking.
01:14Maybe if one of the youth that were at the group home or in one of the foster homes that I was in,
01:20maybe if they knew they could go to college for free under certain circumstances,
01:24or maybe if they knew about these organizations that cared about them or these people who are out here who care about them,
01:29maybe they would change their behavior.
01:32They just want support. They just want help. They just want to be loved.
01:37I say that if you have a room and you feel that you will open it up to a foster child, I say go for it.
01:47We have to make sure as a country that we have said enough is enough.
01:52We have got to stand up as a community and say we will not allow these 428,000 children to be invisible.
