00:00Tom Holland is the highlight of every movie he's a part of, even when things don't go
00:04as planned.
00:05These are the bloopers that prove he's just as charismatic when he's out of character.
00:10Superhero films have a lot of action, and while plenty of it may be computer-generated,
00:15there's still a lot the actors have to do themselves.
00:17With all the endless jumps, kicks, and flips required of a Spider-Man performance, there
00:21are bound to be a few times when an actor loses their balance.
00:25In Tom Holland's second Spider-Man movie, Spider-Man Far From Home, Holland's Peter
00:29Parker and Jake Gyllenhaal's Quentin Beck, aka Mysterio, battle against a monster called
00:34the Fire Elemental at a carnival in Prague.
00:37That heinous monster is later revealed to be a projection manipulated by Beck and his
00:41special effects team, but at the time, Peter doesn't know it.
00:45After faking a heroic sacrifice to defeat the monster, Beck lies on the ground, and
00:50Peter jumps down from the Ferris wheel to check on his unlikely companion.
00:54When filming one take of this scene, Holland's balancing skills proved a little less than
00:58graceful.
00:59Though he could have chosen to break character, Holland ultimately rolled with it, and made
01:03his way over into Gyllenhaal's waiting arms.
01:06Tony Stark meant a lot to Peter Parker, and his grief over Stark's death in Avengers Endgame
01:11is a prominent emotional thread of Spider-Man Far From Home.
01:14A major moment comes when Peter gives the glasses that Stark bequeathed him to Beck,
01:18feeling unworthy to carry on the legacy of Iron Man.
01:21It's my choice to make, okay?
01:22And I'm gonna make it.
01:23Look, you're a soldier, a leader.
01:25You stopped the Elementals, you saved my life, you saved the world!"
01:28This heartbreaking plot beat showcases how Peter is struggling with his insecurities
01:32and pain after losing yet another father figure, but you wouldn't know any of that from watching
01:37the outtakes.
01:38Despite the scene being such an emotional moment, Holland couldn't keep from losing
01:42his composure, take after take.
01:44After a few failed attempts and unable to keep from laughing, Holland finally asks the
01:48crew for a way out of his predicament.
01:50Can you see my face?
01:51No.
01:52Not at all, so I can smile?
01:53Yeah, yeah, you can smile."
01:54Of course, that didn't work.
01:55While the two actors workshopped the scene in a few different ways, each try ended with
01:59Holland in fits of laughter.
02:01So next time you watch that tear-jerking pub scene, just remember Holland was fighting
02:05back tears, just not from sadness.
02:09Since Spider-Man Far From Home is centered around Peter Parker and his classmates taking
02:13a field trip to another continent, it only makes sense that some of the movie had to
02:16be filmed on location in Europe.
02:18When shooting in Venice, Italy, it seems that the beautiful scenery may have been a little
02:22too breathtaking for the actors to keep their focus.
02:25Peter and Jacob Bartalan's Ned stood silently for a little bit longer than anticipated during
02:30a take, and Holland had to take the scene by the horns.
02:33Directed by Tom Holland has a pretty nice ring to it, wouldn't you say?
02:37That's when you say your line, Jacob.
02:40You say it first.
02:41There you go.
02:42What's going on?
02:43Is it me first?
02:45A lot of strength training goes into being a Marvel star.
02:48As effortless as the actors and stunt performers make their abilities look on screen, a lot
02:52of intense preparation is needed for action stars to become world-famous superheroes.
02:57And sometimes, it's still not enough.
02:59The tense, climactic battle of Spider-Man Far From Home comes when Peter faces his fears
03:04and steps up to challenge Mysterio on the London Bridge.
03:07While Peter was challenging Beck's authority on the set, Holland challenged Gyllenhaal
03:11to something else, a push-up contest.
03:14The pair made it at least to 20, though Gyllenhaal tapped out.
03:17Body sense and arm strength?
03:19Tom Holland just keeps winning.
03:22Captain America Civil War had a lot of moving parts, including the MCU debuts for Chadwick
03:26Boseman's Black Panther and Tom Holland's Spider-Man.
03:29The first time we see Peter Parker in the MCU, Tony Stark makes a surprise visit to
03:34his apartment, chatting with Aunt May as Peter arrives home from school.
03:38The two have never met before.
03:40Stark is a popular billionaire superhero, and Peter is a high school student.
03:44Naturally, Peter is nervous, and it turns out Holland might have been as well.
03:48Um, I'm not Tony.
03:52It's not like we can blame him, though.
03:54This is the first time audiences will see you as one of Marvel's most iconic superheroes,
03:58and your first scene is with the originator of the MCU itself?
04:02That's some serious pressure, and a great responsibility.
04:05And speaking of responsibility…
04:08Tom Holland doesn't deal with every on-set mishap the same way.
04:11Sometimes he remains firmly in character, even while funny stuff unfolds around him.
04:16Other times, he breaks character on purpose for the sake of a joke to give the crew a
04:19laugh.
04:20This next blooper is an example of the latter.
04:22In 2017's Spider-Man Homecoming, Peter's school decathlon team is about to head to a tournament
04:27in Washington, D.C.
04:28Trying to find a way out of the commitment so he can take on more Spider-Man duties,
04:32he covers for his absence by saying he's in a Stark internship.
04:35On the set, Holland delivered his line with some added flair.
04:38"...and my internship, you know, I got a lot of responsibility with it.
04:44With great power comes great responsibility."
04:46While that iconic Spidey line would eventually make its way into Holland's version of Spider-Man,
04:51it would have to wait four more years and a whole lot of trauma for it to become canon
04:55in the MCU.
04:57In every on-screen version of Peter Parker's story, Aunt May has been a parental figure
05:01to him.
05:02This, of course, is due to the absence of Peter's parents.
05:05Out of the eight main live-action Spider-Man movies we've seen over the past two decades,
05:09Andrew Garfield's two Amazing Spider-Man movies provided the most thorough backstory about
05:13what happened to Peter's mom and dad.
05:15Meanwhile, the Tom Holland trilogy doesn't mention them at all, and if they did, we'd
05:19probably assume the situation would be addressed with the seriousness it deserves.
05:23So it comes as somewhat of a shock for Holland to casually reference Peter's parents in the
05:27middle of a gruesome joke while filming Spider-Man Homecoming.
05:31When Peter arrives at an epic party hosted by Laura Harrier's character Liz, he remarks
05:35how cool it is that her parents let her throw such an amazing night.
05:39When filming, Holland fumbled through the scenes a few times, apparently having a hard
05:43time getting the line right.
05:44In one take, he found himself improvising a follow-up sentence,
05:47"...my parents are dead."
05:52Before they teamed up as Spider-Man and Doctor Strange in the MCU, Tom Holland and Benedict
05:56Cumberbatch starred together in The Current War, a historical drama about the dawn of
06:00electricity in the United States.
06:03Cumberbatch played the inventor of the lightbulb himself, Thomas Edison, while Holland played
06:07Samuel Insull, one of Edison's business associates.
06:10While the audio is spotty, footage from an on-location shoot for the film shows Holland
06:14and Cumberbatch hug, while Holland appears to crack a joke.
06:17We might never know what built up to the punchline, but we're 100% positive it had to have been
06:21the world's funniest joke.
06:23It's hard to say if Holland and Cumberbatch knew while filming The Current War that they
06:27would soon share scenes in Avengers Infinity War and co-star together as main cast members
06:31in Spider-Man No Way Home.
06:33Nevertheless, they'd already made their MCU debuts by The Current War, and their established
06:37rapport as members of the Marvel family was pretty evident.
06:41As part of the promotional campaign for 2021's Spider-Man No Way Home, Holland and Bartalan
06:46filmed a Hyundai commercial as Peter Parker and Ned Leeds.
06:49There are many questions that go unanswered in this commercial, like why Peter is even
06:54there.
06:55But there were also some bloopers.
06:56During filming, after hobbing in Ned's car, Peter asks a simple question, but the green
07:00screen shoot seems to have made him skip an important step.
07:03What are we going to do for 300 miles?
07:06We're going to put our seatbelts on.
07:08Oh, that's right!
07:09Whoops!
07:10Click it or tick it, Parker!
07:12There's a tense moment in 2018's Avengers Infinity War when Chris Pratt's Star-Lord
07:16grabs Spider-Man, pressing a blaster to his face.
07:19Having just arrived on Thanos' home planet, Titan, each character thinks the other is working
07:24for the big bad.
07:25Instead of assuming they're all on the same team.
07:27Though this could have been a very suspenseful scene, it is ultimately played for laughs
07:31as the heroes entangle their confusion.
07:33Yeah, I'll do you one better.
07:35Who's Gamora?
07:36I'll do you one better.
07:38Why is Gamora?
07:39And the filming had an even looser atmosphere than that.
07:43Who are you guys?
07:47This blooper is made even better because it's a reminder that Holland wore a motion capture
07:51suit any time Peter Parker donned the Iron Spider armor.
07:54This allowed special effects artists the ability to bring Stark's nanotech to life
07:57in post-production by tracking Holland's movements with what was mapped by his suit.
08:02So the next time you watch Spider-Man swinging to battle on Titan, just imagine Tom Holland
08:06doing all of that in a gray onesie with triangles all over him.
08:10Arguably one of the most epic moments of the whole Marvel Cinematic Universe comes in 2019's
08:15Avengers Endgame, as the largest group of Marvel superheroes ever gathers together to
08:20fight Thanos for the Infinity Gauntlet.
08:22Just before charging forward into battle, dozens of iconic characters, played by dozens
08:27of Hollywood's biggest movie stars, strike their dramatic poses.
08:30Many people can probably remember the chills they had in the moment when Captain America
08:34declares for the first and, so far, only time in the MCU,
08:38"...Avengers!
08:39Assemble."
08:40Considering how iconic this moment had to be, the actors knew they had to get it right.
08:50On set, as everyone took their marks, moments before the scene was shot, Pratt rallied everyone
08:55for their big moment.
08:56"...Nobody pull a hamstring.
08:57Warm your buttcheeks up.
08:58Warm up your buttcheeks!"
08:59While we could expect Holland to break into a fit of laughter when a crew member called
09:04for everyone to get in position, he immediately locked into Peter Parker's game face faster
09:09than a Thanos snap.
09:11Impressive.
09:12Sometimes, it's almost impossible to get a decent take when shooting a movie or television
09:16show, whether it's the long hours, inside jokes, or both.
09:20Sometimes, everything is funny for no reason, and the actors can't get it together.
09:24That was certainly the case for Holland and Gyllenhaal, at least once on the set of Spider-Man
09:28Far From Home.
09:29The scene in question is simple enough.
09:31Peter Parker meets Quentin Beck for the first time, and the two characters shake hands.
09:36Easy, right?
09:37Wrong.
09:38In the released blooper footage, Holland started a long string of flubbed takes by laughing,
09:43and only got worse when the director suggested a change.
09:45"...I'll be a tiny bit closer."
09:49"...Not that far."
09:50"...Come on!"
09:51"...Come back."
09:52But in the next take, Gyllenhaal broke first, proving the laughter was infectious.
09:55"...You just laughed at my performance."
09:56"...You were looking around so far so you couldn't look at me, which made me laugh."
10:00The attempt to get a usable take drifted so far that one had Holland and Gyllenhaal interlocking
10:05their arms while eating watermelon.
10:06The finished shot did manage to make it into the movie, blooper-free, so we know they eventually
10:11held it together long enough for a simple handshake.
10:14Sympathy to director John Watts for the unexpected hard time.
