The BASC clay shooting line was a smash hit at the 2024 international Scout jamboree in Essex. Thousands of excited children grabbed the opportunity to try clay pigeon shooting at the flagship Scouting event in the south of England.

00:00The excellent work BASC did at the International Scouting and Guiding Jamboree which took place
00:04in Essex. We're here in Essex Jamboree near Chelmsford to introduce thousands of youngsters
00:11and some of the scout leaders into shotgun shooting. So many people that probably would
00:16never get an opportunity to do this activity. For instance yesterday we put through over a
00:21thousand people during the whole day. It's mainly aimed at scouts and the guild guides,
00:26aged between 12 and 17. Also the scout leaders who could be any age from 18 upwards. We've been
00:33giving some of those a go. Yesterday we had a particular session five o'clock to six o'clock
00:39which was just for the scout and guide leaders. I think we had 150 come through in the hour and
00:44have a shotgun shooting experience. We've come equipped to be able to deliver 600 in the morning
00:49which is a three hour session and 600 in the afternoon. We haven't quite got to those numbers
00:55but literally everybody who's queued up has had an opportunity to shoot. We've had to turn away
01:00pretty much nobody. Can the scout leaders get more involved with their shotgun coaching?
01:06Yeah, obviously we get quite a lot of members who leave money to us in their wills. We call it
01:12the legacy fund and I put a number of bids into my legacy fund and secured
01:18funding tens of thousands of pounds to train coaches up to be airgun coaches, airgun safety
01:24officers, BASC shotgun safety officers and coaches and it's heavily discounted by the legacy fund.
01:30We just need people to come forward, contact me or contact any member of the training education
01:35team and we'll see what we can do to get you on there and we've got we've got lots of money in
01:39the legacy to do that. I think that the long-term aim is that we want to get as many instructors and
01:45coaches in the coaching movement so that they can deliver these activities for themselves in
01:49their own right with qualified people.
