Severe floods caused by heavy rainfall following Typhoon Gaemi swamped China's southern Hunan province, resulting in 30 deaths and 35 people missing, state broadcaster CCTV reported on Friday (Aug 2).

00:55Authorities said they were still carrying out the rescue operation to find more survivors,
01:00even though the chances were slim. They said excavation equipment could not be used until
01:05Wednesday due to bad weather. The death toll had risen to 256 and 220 more people were still
01:13missing. Rescuers also launched operation to locate some 49 people in Himachal Pradesh
01:20after a deadly spout of torrential rainfall struck the region.
01:24They saved nearly 1,000 people who were stranded in different parts of the Himalayas.
01:30The floods have claimed the lives of at least 12 people.
