00:00It's going to be tough for all of these guys.
00:03For all of the guys, what do they need to do?
00:06Just like we showed in the highlight, Hunter Lawrence was losing time in the sand rollers,
00:11but coming out of the corners, angles.
00:13These guys have to get these angles right.
00:15The momentum is going up the hill and the angles that you go into the sand rollers are
00:19really important.
00:20Chase Exxon was really fast in there and was able to get a triple through the sand rollers.
00:24Hunter Lawrence and everybody else, continue making sure, be patient, get the angles right
00:29and you'll be good.
00:30All right.
00:31We're going to go as we call it around the berm here.
00:34Let's talk about some of the riders to watch, James.
00:36The man, the number four with the red plate, Chase Exxon.
00:39I'm not going to do anything different.
00:42I'm going to go out there, let this race come to me.
00:44I feel like I'm the fittest guy out here.
00:46I won four in a row.
00:47Let's make it five.
00:49Let's keep going.
00:50James, you talked about how much Exxon wanted that whole shot.
00:53He's going to have to take it off this guy here, the 96 of Hunter Lawrence.
00:58He's been incredible with starts all year long.
01:00He got that 450 moto one whole shot.
01:03Even though he has to clean up a few things he said on the track, if he can get that whole
01:07shot again in this moto, it will put him in the best position to beat Chase Exxon.
01:11Well, for the 21 of Jason Anderson, the riding is strong enough, but he needs better first
01:17lap positioning.
01:18If he can get a start just like he did at red, but not make that critical mistake.
01:21I think he's in contention for that final podium spot.
01:24He's got to better the likes of Justin Cooper and Aaron Plessinger, but everything's in
01:28place.
01:29He's just got to nail that start.
01:31Not nailing the start as of late, Justin Cooper got a third of the first moto last time out
01:36at red, but started good in moto two, fell, did a sixth.
01:40That started moto one here, fifth, not where he wants to be.
01:44Definitely looking at those podiums.
01:46Fly racing, 32nd card up.
01:53Anderson choosing the same gate he had in moto one, pretty far outside of the box, or
01:57pretty far outside, just outside of the box, more, it's further inside.
02:04Here we go.
02:05Revs are up.
02:06Gates down.
02:07Is that Justin Cooper?
02:08I believe it is.
02:09Hunter nearly had it, but this time, Justin Cooper rectifies the start problems into the
02:27lead on the Omaha.
02:28This is what we've been waiting for ever since thunder valley, Justin Cooper hasn't been
02:32out front.
02:33Let's see what he can do.
02:34Felt like he had a pretty good pace.
02:36Chase Sexton almost went down.
02:38He clipped it back in at first corner, so did a good job at saving it, but now a few
02:44positions back.
02:45Let's see what Justin Cooper and the 96 can do out front.
02:49Jason Anderson, yeah, almost passed Hunter Lawrence for second.
02:52Still going for it.
02:53No love lost between these two.
02:55They've had multiple run-ins this year.
02:58Anderson in the running with our camera.
02:59Why do you do that, bro?
03:00You need that shot.
03:01Flirting, I'm going to say, with the track markers, and then back to battle with Hunter,
03:07who's all over Cooper.
03:08That's important for these guys to, one, they want to race each other.
03:13Clean air is pivotal.
03:14You want to keep that number one plate, but you don't want to slow each other down and
03:18let that number four come up.
03:19Maybe you can work together and get out, but I doubt for those guys that's going to happen.
03:24Let's see if Hunter Lawrence can get up the inside of Justin.
03:28Oh, Anderson, all kinds of aggressive up that hill.
03:35Still not enough to make the move.
03:37Now Lawrence side-by-side with Cooper.
03:40They worked on some parts of this racetrack and left some other parts, so Hunter was good
03:44here earlier.
03:46They worked that outside track.
03:50They put down some water, but it's not wet enough.
03:52These guys got to be really patient, so I think they can be aggressive on these opening
03:55laps, which it seems like they are.
03:59By the way, it is Ferrandez fourth, Nicoletti fifth, Sexton sixth, the first moto winner.
04:05It's Cooper and Lawrence battling it out.
04:08These guys have had so many of these duels in their years in the 250 class.
04:12They're Sexton at the bottom.
04:13I think he's working on Nicoletti and Ferrandez as well.
04:17Yeah, I don't know if chase went down.
04:19I thought he was ahead of his teammate.
04:21Aaron Plessinger is in front of him now, so.
04:25And will reset it now.
04:27It is still Ferrandez in front of them and then Plessinger and then Sexton, so Ferrandez
04:33up the 4th and holding it and pulling away just a smidge now is Cooper.
04:41Justin looks good.
04:42Track dried out a little bit, and now that they worked on these sand rollers, at least
04:46for these first opening laps, these guys don't have to be so much concentrated on it, trying
04:51to make haywire sunshines, right, get away, but like what I see for that number 32 Yamaha.
04:59We talked so much about this track, the exits and the momentum in the corners.
05:03We get to the bottom of the hill up here.
05:06I feel like that's an area where Cooper does really well.
05:08Doesn't have that hitch.
05:11He rides really light on the motorcycle, what I mean by he just doesn't move around a lot.
05:16He doesn't put so much G force on that bike, which means that he's not slowing it down.
05:20He's not slowing that bike down in some of these deep corners, so it allows him to get
05:24out of these corners as if the bike was no one was on it.
05:29You saw it right there, how smooth he was.
05:31It is now Plessinger battling Ferrandez, fourth and fifth with Sexton behind them.
05:37Sexton, we mentioned, no hole shots this year.
05:40He's certainly been able to win without it, but this is pretty far back.
05:44Sixth place.
05:45Yeah, I think with Chase Sexton, he's not too worried as long as he can keep those leaders
05:49in sight.
05:50He knows he's strong, and it seems like he's got a pretty good pace, so he's got a really
05:57good pace.
05:59But now he went to the inside, he had too much pace, couldn't hold that inside.
06:03Hey, good to just see Ferrandez, oh, one of these duels and Plessinger down.
06:09The rodeo of the cowboy just slid out, and that's from the track drying out a little
06:12bit more than what it was earlier.
06:14He just landed, lost both ends of the tires, and now he's got to worry about Chiz, get
06:19back around Kyle Chisholm now.
06:22And yeah, that will drop him near top ten.
06:24Oh, that's actually back around now, not the 11th, the 12th.
06:27Lost a teammate, a twisted T, Suzuki.
06:30Plessinger repasses him, so that's going to be eighth now for the number seven.
06:34Yeah, that's tough because he looked pretty aggressive.
06:36He's probably feeling pretty good, so let's see if he can recover.
06:40Long race.
06:42So he's going up the inside.
06:43He just got passed back.
06:45Dillon jumps out.
06:46Now Aarons probably wants to hug the inside.
06:48You can see he lost the front end, caught that little edge, and then he lost the rear
06:52end, and he was long for the ride.
06:54Just a typical fall over.
06:56A little bit easier on Sexton, who's now up to fifth.
06:59Back to the lead trio.
07:02Still Cooper, Lawrence Anderson.
07:04Now, you've got to wonder how much film did Hunter Lawrence watch in between the motos
07:09because clearly he was losing some time to chase Sexton, but overall, I thought when
07:15we were watching, have some film of Justin Cooper from that first moto, he looked really
07:18good.
07:19Now it's nice to see him out front.
07:21He's holding his own from everyone.
07:27He does look strong there.
07:29Send it down to J.T.
07:30With more from Cooper's team.
07:32J.T.?
07:33Well, Jeremy Cooker with monster star racing Yamaha.
07:36Now, Justin Cooper, we know he's not a huge fan of that scoop tire.
07:39Can you tell us about the conversation you had and the choice he made for the second
07:43moto as we see him leading here?
07:44Yeah, of course.
07:45He's definitely not a fan of it on the 450, but we realized after the first moto that
07:49the start was so important, especially on this track.
07:51It was kind of a funneling track, so to get in front off the start was too important,
07:56and it was a little bit of a battle, but we got him to agree on it, and it's paying off
07:59so far.
08:00Congratulations on the right decision.
08:01It seems like it's paying off here.
08:02Thank you.
08:03I was wondering, did he go to the scoop tire to get that start, and he did, but on the
08:10other end, James, is he not going to feel as good the rest of the moto now?
08:14It worked for the start, but what about the rest?
08:15Well, he's going to feel better because he's not getting roosted.
08:18He's out front.
08:19The problem is he's going to lose that battle every time.
08:22Now we got that big monster number four, chase Sexton, starting to wake up just like he did
08:29that first moto.
08:30Oh, yeah, it looms large, no doubt, as he puts the heat on Ferrandez and goes right
08:34by.
08:35Yeah.
08:36Strong pass.
08:37Chase has been passing guys going down the hill all day long, and we saw him pass his
08:40teammate.
08:41Nice move by him, and I wouldn't be surprised if he closed up on that number 21, Jason Anderson,
08:45pretty quick as well.
08:47Have downhills been a strength of Sexton now that I'm thinking about it, hang town, high
08:51point, a couple races like that as well?
08:54Yeah, it has been.
08:55Chase has been really good.
08:56When the track gets rougher and he gets these bigger bumps, it seems like his bike works
09:00really well, and going down the hills, talk about rebound set up and all that, I think
09:05chase just feels more comfortable.
09:06He knows what that bike's going to do, so when you know what it's going to do, it's
09:10just going to twist that throttle, and he's doing it.
09:13He knows what he wants to do, and that has bridged the gap to that lead trio, Cooper,
09:18Lawrence, Anderson.
09:19Here comes Sexton, and here's the next battle.
09:25Craig has been really riding well today.
09:27He's got to deal with Plesinger, and you know you're going to see Phil Migoletti around
09:31the top ten, especially early.
09:33His starts have been unreal.
09:34He's next in the line.
09:35Yeah, the strong ride by Aaron to get up, I mean, he's down in 208, so for him to get
09:43up after that crash, he's still moving forward, and shout out to, like you said, with Kristen
09:46Craig.
09:47Best ride that we've seen all year long.
09:48Let's see if he can continue, but that number seven's on a roll right now.
09:52Those two ride together at the baker's factory with Alden Baker during the week, so they're
09:56familiar with each other.
09:57Plesinger's like, hey, you're getting stronger, good for you, bud, but I've got to go to the
10:01front, maybe try to salvage an overall podium today.
10:05Right now, the overall podium would go to Cooper.
10:09He's sitting on, I believe, five one scores, but there is a long way to go, and you know
10:14Hunter Lawrence very motivated to get them and try to get max points.
10:18Yeah, it'll be important for Aaron to see somebody.
10:23You know, sometimes you get lost when there's a gap.
10:26You don't have anybody to chase, so it looks like Dillon Frandes is right in front of him,
10:30so he'll have a target to keep looking at.
10:35And there's Cooper in blue at the bottom, the race leader, and reminder, you can learn
10:41everything about that team behind the scenes with Yamaha's own YouTube series.
10:49You can check it out every week.
10:52They call it beyond the gate.
10:53Go to the at Yamaha motor USA YouTube channel, and new episodes every Friday.
10:59Okay.
11:00J.T. was talking about the tire choice for Justin Cooper.
11:03Now we're going to show it, J.T.
11:05Well, I happen to be the rock star Husker Barnett mule here, but the same story applies.
11:10This is the tire, a similar tire to what Justin Cooper ran in the first mode, a little bit
11:14more traditional.
11:15It's going to give him a little bit more grip on the rest of the racetrack, a little bit
11:17more side knob as well.
11:19This is the scoop tire we keep mentioning.
11:21The difference is you see the scoop.
11:23That's where the name comes from.
11:25That's going to give much more dirt.
11:28It's basically going to disperse more dirt, and the more dirt you can push forward, guess
11:32what?
11:33The bike rockets forward as well.
11:34It's all about how much dirt you can fit in these gaps, how much dirt it can grab, and
11:39how much dirt you can disperse to push that motorcycle forward.
11:42I'm not doing a great job of explaining it, but these are the two choices basically that
11:46riders have to choose from.
11:48You don't need to, J.T.
11:49The whole shot says it all for Cooper compared to a bad start in the first moto, and now
11:54the question is, can he hold off Hunter Lawrence?
12:16Hunter getting close on the downhill there, James.
12:27Yeah, Hunter is getting close.
12:29Chase Exton just got around Jason Anderson as well, too, so Hunter is starting to see
12:33that, and he's going to have to make a move to get around that 32, try to put somebody
12:37in front of him.
12:38Right now, Chase Exton is rolling.
12:40He was in the 206.
12:41By far the fastest lap time of anybody that last lap, and it's going to be tough for him
12:47to hold him off, but Justin Cooper is doing a great job.
12:50Hunter has any chance to go.
12:51He's got to get around that 32.
12:53Exton up to third.
12:58Justin Cooper continues to lead, but Chase Exton has overtaken Jason Anderson up to third
13:03place.
13:04Speaking of that, send it to Will Christian.
13:09Thank you, Jason.
13:10That's right.
13:11Watching incredibly closely up here in the manager's tower, Ryan Dungey.
13:14Ryan, you have won here four times with the overall there on 450s.
13:18You know this track extremely well.
13:19You know Chase Exton extremely well.
13:21What are you seeing out of him now with that 206 time there?
13:24Well, his lap times are coming into play.
13:27Start was good.
13:28Kind of got shuffled back there, but today I just feel like he's more letting the race
13:30come to him.
13:31As the race goes on, the lap times are dropping.
13:33It's getting faster and faster, but with that, you don't want to make any mistakes.
13:37Let the leaders go.
13:38Hunter, he knows that championship is close, so he's going to put in a hard charge, but
13:43it's some good racing.
13:44We'll see as the race plays out.
13:45See if he can't get to the front.
13:46Thanks so much, Ryan.
13:47Enjoy your hometown race here.
13:48Thank you.
13:49You know what I've enjoyed?
13:50About three times Dungey has walked by our booth, and every time he sees you, you guys
13:56got some cool stories back in the day, working together, a little reuniting.
14:01I enjoyed that.
14:02Yeah.
14:03Last time I seen him here, we had a battle back in the Trey Knart year, winning second
14:07place.
14:08Yeah, it's always good to see Ryan, but I'm just looking at the time that chase Sexton
14:12is gaining on these guys, and it's all in those sand rollers.
14:15He was a couple seconds behind him, and look where he's at right now.
14:19He's rolling.
14:20Yeah, he was not in the shot one lap ago, and now he has both Lawrence and Cooper in
14:26his sights, J.T.
14:27And as Sexton gets by quickly here, guys, he is going to ride off into the sunset faster
14:33than these two will know what happened.
14:34You see how quickly he's pulled up to the back of him.
14:37The only thing that can slow down this momentum is if he drops in and starts riding at their
14:41pace versus the pace he's used to catch them.
14:43So watch for that.
14:44He needs to make quick, decisive moves, and if he does, this moto is practically over.
14:49Yeah, and J.T.'s right, but look at chase Sexton's body position.
14:54He's standing up.
14:55He's relaxed.
14:56To me, that's a rider who knows he's going to pass these guys, and what he's doing is
15:00just relaxing.
15:01I'm going to stay out of the roost, give him a little bit of gap, because I'm really fast
15:04right here.
15:05And if he's doing that, that means he's not taking any risks.
15:08So even this gap that he lost with Hunter Lawrence, I think he's allowing that to happen
15:12because he knows he's got quite a bit of pace on these guys.
15:17And last time around, Sexton 207, 208 for Cooper, 209 for Lawrence.
15:24And you can see the times there.
15:26Look at the difference.
15:27Everyone else 208, 209.
15:30On a run to the front.
15:42And Lawrence trying to solve Justin Cooper, who has led almost to the halfway point of
15:47this race.
15:48For Anderson Plessinger.
15:49Plessinger, what a comeback.
15:50Yeah, Aaron was able to get around Dylan.
15:51Dylan struggling again a little bit.
15:52I wouldn't say again, but struggling a little bit more today.
15:53Keep that pace.
15:54Aaron is going to be kicking himself.
15:55I think he does have the pace to be up here battling with these guys, at least for second
16:07place.
16:08But now, just like that 250 class, we've got a three-way fight for the lead.
16:13Yeah, it is on right now.
16:19At this point, Hunter is aware of where Sexton is, right?
16:22Has he noticed?
16:23I saw a little look back a few laps ago, and that's when he really started pushing the
16:28pace.
16:29So, yeah, Justin Cooper is doing a great job, Will, of holding these guys off.
16:30Yeah, he is.
16:31Right now, Hunter Lawrence is wanting to do the same thing.
16:32And I heard you say earlier, James, you were wondering how much tape they may have watched
16:33back at Hunter HRC there between motors.
16:34So I asked Hunter Lawrence's trainer, Johnny O'Meara, that question, and he said, yeah,
16:35we definitely looked at stuff.
16:36We looked at what chase was doing.
16:37We looked at where Hunter was losing any time there.
16:38And now it's a good question.
16:39And I said, look, what does he need, what's going to be the difference-maker here?
16:57And he said, it's intensity.
16:59He's just going to have to dig really deep.
17:01So more of that simplistic, oh, as the guy said, make contact, more of that simplistic
17:06coaching there.
17:07Digging deep on a track like this, it's a theme.
17:10It worked, Will.
17:11He managed to muscle the lead away from Cooper.
17:14Yeah, strong move.
17:16Angles.
17:17Just had a better angle going into that corner.
17:19Caught Justin Cooper off nice.
17:22Halfway through the moto.
17:23Reminder that monster energy now available at quick trip.
17:27And this is the critical juncture.
17:30Hunter going to try to get away.
17:32I'm going to work on Cooper.
17:41Sexton.
17:42Big run around the outside.
17:43Finishes it off.
17:44That's a perfect example of where chase is making the time.
17:48If you notice, you saw Justin Cooper, both tires were off the ground.
17:51Chase Sexton, the rear tire was on the ground the whole way through.
17:55So perfect shot.
17:56Great job by our camera crew to catch that.
17:59Really good.
18:01Great job at just keeping that bike on the ground.
18:03Not moving too much.
18:04And it's less energy.
18:05Now he's going after that 96.
18:09Maybe Sexton not waiting any longer.
18:11Well, yeah, I think Hunter got around him.
18:14So he just don't want to get too far away.
18:18Get too far away and have to take that chance J.T. To catch him.
18:21Yeah.
18:22And that pass, I believe, this is all forced by the intensity that chase Sexton brought
18:26to the fight.
18:27Because Hunter, I think, he was being complacent, he was being patient, but you see how he forces
18:32a pass there.
18:33Because he knows how important it is to stay ahead of chase Sexton.
18:36James, you've been talking about all day how important it is for Hunter just to be in front
18:40of chase all the way through these sections.
18:42Don't let chase get out front and dictate his own race.
18:45This whole fight, this whole surge forward was brought by chase Sexton, and Hunter Lawrence
18:50has responded where Justin Cooper wasn't able to.
18:55Thank you, J.T.
18:56He sets up another Hunter Lawrence versus chase Sexton battle for a moto win, and this
19:03would also be the overall.
19:0613 minutes and two laps to go.
19:16Now I think this next couple laps really important for Hunter.
19:20Just stay in front of him.
19:21Don't kind of like we see Eli in the beast mode, he gets rolling, you got to get in front
19:26of him to stop it.
19:27I think if Hunter can keep him, he might have a chance to hold on towards the end of the
19:31race or his best shot to do that.
19:33Another battle here.
19:34Wow.
19:35It has come undone for Justin Cooper, and Anderson is all over him for third.
19:40Jason has been riding good all day long.
19:41He was at fastest qualifier, and any time he sniffs a third place, an opportunity to
19:46be on the podium, he's going to try to take it.
19:49Nice recovery.
19:50I think things start happening pretty quick for Justin Cooper.
19:52He lost a toe to those guys in front, and now Jason is coming up on him.
19:57He ran a 2.12 lap, five seconds slower than Hunter Lawrence.
20:03Cooper and Anderson makes his pass.
20:05I think that's overall podium as well.
20:10Great battle.
20:11This one for a third in pro moto cross, the spring creek, Justin Cooper in blue holding
20:16off Jason Anderson for third in this race while Hunter Lawrence leaves.
20:25Back to the leaders.
20:40Sexton applying pressure.
20:42Hunter Lawrence, 11 moto podiums this year.
20:45He's yet to win a race overall.
20:48That was unreal, both of them down that hill.
20:53I think Hunter senses how far chase is behind him to go outside, otherwise he would have
20:58went inside.
20:59Just like we saw in the first moto, let's see how much he's worked on that J.T.
21:05You heard Ryan Dungey talking about letting the race come to him.
21:09We saw how patient he was in the first moto until he wasn't patient anymore.
21:13I look at these battles now almost like a daytona 500 where they're simply getting the
21:18laps in the books in the first half of the race.
21:21Now you saw that charge.
21:22They went down to 2.07.
21:23Now the race has started.
21:24Now they're actually pushing.
21:25This is where the wins and loses will be decided.
21:26You saw what happened to Justin Cooper.
21:27When they went, he couldn't go with them.
21:28They're on it right now, J.T.
21:29Sexton trying to set himself up as we head to the sand.
21:30On the inside.
21:31That was quick.
21:32I don't know if he wanted to follow the lines, but he knew how close chase was and you could
21:50kind of see him sit up.
21:52Maybe he just knew it was going to happen.
21:54He wants to see his lines, but, yeah, he didn't have too much fight.
21:57He went outside for a reason on that.
22:01Wow.
22:02Surprising to see.
22:03We were really bracing ourselves for a battle.
22:06He didn't even need the sand rollers.
22:08He was past him before then.
22:10Yeah.
22:11Chase is rolling.
22:12Hunter knew that.
22:13Chase was probably surprised as well.
22:15Like, oh, wait.
22:16You're going to let me?
22:17All right.
22:18I'll take it.
22:19So chase Sexton, wow.
22:27I mean, winning the moto would not be a surprise.
22:29He won four in a row, but we are used to seeing Hunter fighting him with everything he has.
22:33As Sexton goes uphill and starts to pull away.
22:37This would be five straight moto wins.
22:40And here's the pass.
22:41Let's watch Hunter.
22:42Yeah.
22:43Hunter's got the line.
22:44And this is right out the mechanics area.
22:46So he hears chase Sexton behind him.
22:48There's no lappers in front of him.
22:50And he just goes outside.
22:51And watch his body.
22:52Just kind of sits up.
22:53Let's him.
22:54So that was a pass that you know the guy is going to come around and just kind of give
22:59in to him, really.
23:01Interesting to find out what the story is there.
23:03And as J.T. Predicted, if Sexton gets to the lead, it could be lights out.
23:08And he's already to a three-second gap.
23:19He looks good.
23:21He is good.
23:22He is good.
23:24And just like I mentioned in first moto, because he got that gap so quick, he was able to get
23:28recovered.
23:29So there's no physical endurance or anything that's going to play into this.
23:33So the only thing that can stop him maybe is mother nature if it starts raining out
23:38here.
23:39Otherwise, chase Sexton rolling just like he's been the previous four moto.
23:43Yeah, we have heard there is some rain in the area.
23:46Not here at the track yet.
23:48But close.
23:49So we could get it by the end of this.
23:51And remember, still have a second 250 moto coming up.
23:56450s race first today.
23:58Oh, that was close.
24:05We don't need the style points here, chase.
24:07That looks spectacular.
24:09You can see the clouds coming in.
24:11Yeah.
24:12I mean, chase is in the zone.
24:14And although he's making mistakes, he's just comfortable.
24:16And sometimes those mistakes to him, they're not even mistakes.
24:19He's just letting it hang out.
24:22And he's pulling away doing it.
24:25Kind of like the hang town ride a little bit.
24:27This is different.
24:29This is different.
24:31This is the guy that we talked about before.
24:33I'm like, hey, you hear his interview.
24:35It sounds like he's confident.
24:37And when he's showing up, first lap, he's just letting the race come to him.
24:41It's like he knows he's going to win the race.
24:43That's what he's riding like.
24:45Yeah, no panic after another so-so start, which we'll show you.
24:49The motosport.com whole shot replay.
24:51Justin Cooper, Hunter Lawrence battling.
24:54Yeah, Justin switches tires.
24:56And he gets up to inside.
24:58Watch chase Sexton.
25:00Dylan Ferrandez is right there.
25:02And chase almost goes down.
25:04He catches the back end of Dylan.
25:06Nice job staying up.
25:08But it was Justin Cooper getting the whole shot.
25:10Going to be stuck on that paddle for the rest of the year probably.
25:12And he has successfully fended off Anderson.
25:14Just a bad lap for Cooper.
25:16Went all the way to the 212s.
25:18Now back to a 209.
25:20And opened it back up on Anderson.
25:22Send it back to J.T.
25:24With more on the leader.
25:26And for chase Sexton, you wonder.
25:28We talk about fitness and superior fitness.
25:30All these guys are extremely fit.
25:32But what's the difference?
25:34And we just saw it in real time.
25:36They're riding around.
25:38They're doing 210s or so.
25:40Chase Sexton drops that down to 207, 208.
25:42And there's an expiration date on how long those guys can go that pace.
25:44Now Hunter was able to respond.
25:46Drop the pace down with him.
25:48But he can only hold it for two or three laps.
25:51That's what makes the difference.
25:53Where chase Sexton can get on that limit and sit on the limit for multiple minutes.
25:55Multiple laps.
25:57And he was able to just break the will of Hunter Lawrence.
25:59And now you see him start to ride away.
26:01So not every single race is that superior fitness show up.
26:03But on the hardest days like we're seeing today.
26:05That's what makes the difference.
26:07Thanks, J.T.
26:09It's up to nearly ten seconds again.
26:11Like it was at moto one.
26:13The bottom box.
26:15Good battle.
26:17We've got Derek Kelley and Freddie Noren.
26:20That is for 11th.
26:2212th.
26:24Right around that top ten range.
26:26Yeah.
26:28These guys are getting those points.
26:30Looking good.
26:32There's always battles going on all day long.
26:34Actually that is Chisholm and Kulas.
26:36Sorry.
26:38That is 12th and 13th.
26:40Chisholm on the right.
26:42Kulas the veteran out of Estonia.
26:44Showed up for a couple races last year.
26:46I think just to check a bucket list.
26:48Just always wanted to try a race in America.
26:50Did really well.
26:52So he's coming over for more this year.
26:54And is even thinking, I want to make the S.M.X.
26:56Playoffs.
26:58And I believe he's up to ranked 23rd.
27:00In combined supercross and motocross points.
27:02His real job is to race in Brazil.
27:04In their arena cross championship.
27:06Quite a bit of versatility.
27:08To go from small indoor circuits in Brazil.
27:10One weekend to fast outdoor circuits in America.
27:12The next.
27:14And he's dealing with Chisholm right now.
27:17It's cool to watch.
27:19He's definitely stacking some points.
27:21Being in the top 15.
27:23The problem is some of the other guys.
27:25Like Chisholm.
27:27And Mcgirath and Nicoletti.
27:29He's doing good.
27:31The competition is doing well.
27:33One of the most friendly riders you'll meet.
27:35The veteran of the 79.
27:37Out of Estonia.
27:39But Chisholm.
27:41He's tough.
27:43Looking at the timing and scoring.
27:45Hunter Lawrence.
27:47Justin Cooper has rebounded.
27:49Within a second and a half.
27:51Just like that first moto.
27:53Let's see if Hunter responds.
27:55He does not want.
27:57As Harry makes the pass.
27:59Chisholm.
28:01He doesn't want to lose five points.
28:03Tightening up for second.
28:05This is what he has done.
28:07Hovering around that.
28:09I'd say 10 to 14 spot.
28:11Nearly every moto he has been in.
28:14He just wants to make those playoffs.
28:16There's a lot of money on the line.
28:18Yeah.
28:20This is my Kyle Chisholm.
28:22This is second moto here.
28:24The sand rollers.
28:26They've got to them now.
28:28Starting to feel it.
28:30Supermoto cross playoffs.
28:32Begin September 7th.
28:34Tickets to all three rounds.
28:36Conquered Fort Worth and Las Vegas.
28:38Available now.
28:40Go to supermotocross.com.
28:42You don't want to miss the historic
28:44conclusion to the 2024 season.
28:46So Kulofs has made the move on
28:48Chisholm.
28:50And that will be
28:5212th place.
28:54Derek Kelly and Freddy Norton.
28:56We check in with chase Sexton.
28:58Cooper did make a brief run at
29:00Lawrence.
29:02Cooper running a 210.
29:04Lawrence a 212.
29:06But we'll see what the times are.
29:08We'll see what happens.
29:11But we'll see what the times are
29:13the next lap around.
29:15Chase Sexton, though.
29:17Tightening the grip
29:19on pro motocross.
29:31Sexton now
29:33going to try to just bring it home.
29:35And Cooper
29:37would still be third overall
29:39if he holds off Anderson.
29:41And he's stretched out a bit on him.
29:51So
29:53what a story
29:55of perseverance, by the way, for Sexton
29:57who really I feel like going back
29:59to Monster Energy Supercross we had
30:01more down days
30:04and bummed out frustrated interviews
30:06from Sexton
30:08than good ones.
30:10And it's come all the way back around.
30:12And look at this battle, James.
30:14You saw it developing.
30:16Justin Cooper is all over Hunter Lawrence.
30:18This is going to be
30:20interesting.
30:22Battle for second
30:24raging.
30:26Justin Cooper is back on the heels
30:28of Hunter Lawrence.
30:30Let's go back to Will.
30:33He's out here fighting for different things we talked about
30:35be it championships or be it SMX points.
30:37And for Justin Cooper
30:39he's out here fighting for a contract
30:41an off track excursion
30:43he's fighting for a contract
30:45his contract is up at the end of this year
30:47as I'm sure you guys know
30:49and he does have incentives to have that automatically
30:51renewed. I asked him if
30:5313 points was what that was
30:55and he said no, he didn't disclose what it was
30:57but he did say he has not reached that
30:59marker yet. So when you're out here
31:01and you want to stay on this team
31:03and you're fighting for that spot
31:05that's just that extra incentive
31:07to keep going.
31:09Well, you know
31:11we're talking off the record here
31:13but he's never going to disclose exactly
31:15but I have a strong feeling
31:17that podiums are in the mix
31:19and with Jett Lawrence out
31:21that opens the door so you see
31:23why these guys are pushing so hard.
31:25Podiums, overall podiums
31:27are what will unlock that contract
31:30There is a contract in the offering
31:32and having a factory contract alongside
31:34the likes of Eli Tomac and Cooper Webb
31:36is not an easy thing to accomplish
31:38and certainly something he doesn't want to lose.
31:40Yeah, there were some rumors of
31:42Cooper talking to other teams. I think those
31:44have fizzled and this is his best route
31:46and obviously from a performance
31:48standpoint, he'd love to stay with the team
31:50that he's been with his entire pro
31:52career but just as quickly as he
31:54got to Lawrence, that off track excursion
31:56James, he lost it.
31:58Yeah, and it was a couple other mistakes
32:00after that as well but just like the first
32:02moto, Hunter Lawrence responded when
32:04Aaron Plescher got him so maybe
32:06sometimes you start slowing down
32:08and you get stuck in that zone and it's hard to
32:10pick the pace up but when Justin came up
32:12just like Aaron did, Hunter has
32:14a little bit more pace, able to respond
32:16and what he needs to do is put
32:18another couple laps then he'll break Justin Cooper
32:20and be able to round this race out.
32:22And this still would be third overall
32:24for Cooper
32:27So he would get that overall podium today
32:29and for these factory riders
32:31big money difference between
32:33a third and a fourth. You usually don't
32:35get paid for fourth extra
32:37but you do if you get on the podium.
32:39Everybody's deal is a little different. Some get top four
32:41some only get wins
32:43but I'm going to say it could be 20, 30 grand
32:45here for Cooper to hold on for third
32:47and then more if he can get to Hunter
32:49He's still fighting
32:51No, he's still fighting it and more than that
32:53just the security of having a ride
32:55I think Justin Cooper, whether he gets third
32:57in championship or whatever that milestone is
32:59he's deserved it. He's gotten
33:01better every race
33:03and he's up here fighting for Hunter Lawrence
33:05which had the points lead at our last round
33:07And we get to Jason Anderson
33:09who had been lurking there
33:11with Cooper for a while
33:15and he's going to end up fourth overall
33:17and fourth of the moto if it ends his way
33:20And then Plessinger's charge has stalled
33:22Send it to Will with more
33:24on the Kawasaki rider
33:26I don't know if you guys were impressed
33:28with this hanging on here late
33:30into moto 2 as I am
33:32with Jason Anderson because whilst we talked
33:34about his injury there and his shoulder getting better
33:36he is still dealing with essentially
33:38a handicap out there
33:40So they've made a lot of improvements
33:42on the bike. They say they keep doing it
33:44months and the Kawasaki team said
33:46they're just getting better
33:49and the Kawasaki team said they're just constantly going
33:51but they said the key to those improvements
33:53that they've made, and James you've talked about
33:55it a lot, how guys can go down the wrong route
33:57kind of, you know, get buried
33:59there and things and have to change their mind
34:01they said they are constantly going the right way
34:03they're just making these small changes and they're
34:05constantly making Jason feel
34:07more comfortable. That is the big goal
34:09and to me when I'm seeing riding with
34:11an injury still and yet still looking
34:13this comfortable, being this competitive, it's got to be a good sign
34:15Yeah, absolutely
34:17You start chasing because I know Jason
34:19wants to be out front and battling with those
34:21guys and maybe the bike is fine
34:23but because you're running fourth place
34:25and you want to be on the podium, you start changing
34:27things and you go the wrong direction
34:29maybe they went back to that base setup but either way
34:31he's looked good all day long
34:33that shoulder is probably starting to bother him right now
34:35but I think Jason's done a great job today
34:39Well they're setting up big things in the future
34:41He has a two year deal. He'll be back next
34:43year with Monster Kawasaki
34:46and the rumor mill says that it could be none other than
34:48the MXGT world champion
34:50Jorge Prado, we saw a little bit
34:52in Monster Energy Supercross this year
34:54could be coming over as Anderson's
34:56teammate next year and that would be a
34:58force certainly in pro motocross
35:00for sure and everything
35:02they're learning about this Kawasaki that was
35:04new this year is going to help them
35:06next season
35:08Shout out to Brock Tickle, the test rider
35:10who actually raced last time out at Redbud
35:12and should be back a little later in the year
35:14Absolutely
35:16and I'm seeing lightning strikes
35:18in the air so hopefully they can finish
35:20this race
35:22Yeah, a lot but a half left
35:24Sexton leader
35:28Yeah, it is dark clouds
35:30and we might be in for a hot race
35:32for the 250 Moto2
35:34that is still
35:36yet to start
35:38riders are headed to the gate for that
35:40normally the 250
35:43race first but we reversed it today
35:45so we still have one more Moto to run
35:47and man are the storm clouds
35:49overhead now
35:51as for Chase Sexton
35:53that's what I was alluding to
35:55think of
35:57they say on the social media how it started
35:59how it's going for him in this
36:012024 season
36:03a lot of talk in the off season
36:05very frustrating days adjusting to this bike
36:07and suddenly now
36:09everything going
36:11Yeah, I think
36:13the way that it happened
36:15is what the results are
36:17now you see a guy that's not
36:19I mean Chase has always been fast
36:21and that's probably the frustrating part with him earlier this season
36:23he didn't have that speed but once he
36:25found it and he's found it
36:27during his outdoors it's been pretty consistent
36:29and now
36:31you're seeing a guy
36:33who knows he's going to win and looks comfortable
36:35doing it even when he's out of shape
36:37he still looks like it doesn't bother him
36:40and that's the whole progression
36:42from he's done supercross season to now
36:44even moving next year
36:46Chase Sexton is going to be a different rider
36:48than he's probably ever been
36:50White flag is out
36:52now obviously Jett Lawrence being out is a factor
36:54but if you're Sexton you're going to hang your head on
36:56I won the second Moto to Southwick
36:58last time we raced I won
37:00you can bench race any direction you want to go on that
37:02but it was not a walk off massive
37:04points lead for Jett
37:06it looked like a battle with Hunter in it as well
37:08we wonder when will these riders return
37:10for SMX playoffs
37:12I'll say it for you I don't think
37:14anybody should question whether
37:16Chase Sexton deserves this or not
37:18I think even Jett Lawrence realized he was still
37:20the guy to beat and because Jett Lawrence
37:22has been so dominant made Chase Sexton
37:24better along with all these other guys
37:26and so now the rain's here
37:28the rain's here so I think Chase is
37:30growing and with Jett
37:32being here this type of guy
37:34it would be a knock down drag out
37:36and not to say what happened last year
37:38definitely wouldn't be happening right now
37:40but again that's why we go
37:42racing and right now the man of the hour
37:44is this number 4
37:46dominant on the KTM
37:48and they'll all be back again and that includes Eli Tomac
37:50and Cooper Webb
37:52listen to a podcast the Moto X pod show
37:54with Webb recently where he thought
37:56he might have been able to be back even by this weekend
37:58but he's realized the thumb injury
38:00that he's returning from going to take a little more time
38:02maybe we'll see him after the break at Unadilla
38:04as for Jett Lawrence
38:06man it's really raining now
38:08we talked to Johnny O'Mara before
38:10and Doc G and they got him out in California
38:12doing non-stop physical therapy
38:14on his thumb for the next couple of weeks
38:16to try to get Jett back for the
38:18SMX playoffs so
38:20this story can change a lot but right now
38:22it is not changing it is going
38:24to be 5 straight Moto wins
38:26for Chase Sexton and hell we can say
38:28rain or shine
38:30he's got it
38:32gotta cool him off cause that boy hot
38:36yeah no cool down in the trash can needed
38:38now to be the 9th career
38:40450 overall win
38:42for Chase Sexton
38:44and 2 in a row
38:48Chase Sexton sweeps it
38:50at Millville
38:52yeah
38:59and we wait to see the gap
39:03there's Hunter Lawrence
39:05fighting again
39:07but second again
39:11and there's always been great respect between these
39:13two former teammates with Honda
39:15and there's Justin Cooper who has had countless
39:17battles just like that
39:19with Hunter Lawrence through the years
39:21250 and now 450
39:25Anderson across the line in 4th
39:27and we'll talk to these riders
39:29on the podium when we return
39:32Chase Sexton
39:34the man to meet
39:36in SMX right now
