The 1969 FA Cup Final saw Manchester City face Leicester City. Both sides had an eventful period in the 1960's, with Man City gaining promotion in 1966, then the League title in 1968, and were now hoping to claim the FA Cup all in a short space of time. Leicester City meanwhile had won the League Cup in 1964 and were in their 3rd FA Cup Final of the 1960's. They had been in the Top Flight since 1957, but this season they were struggling at the wrong end of the table, though they did have a backlog of games to go through to gain ground on their rivals. The Final therefore was a welcome distraction for them, and for City, who were midtable this season, and seemed to free up both sides. This final is surprisingly forgotten in FA Cup history, but this proved to be a enjoyable and competitive final, with both teams evenly matched in a good and fascinating game. Rarely seen in repeats on TV or even mentioned, here is the 1969 FA Cup Final in full, creating history for being the 1st FA Cup Final to be broadcast in colour. For those watching, Leicester are in blue, while Man City play in red & black stripes.

00:00So we had a magnificent first half of football, a magnificent half-time display of marching
00:07by the combined bands of the Grenadier, Cold Street, Parish and Welsh Guards, to whom we
00:13say thank you very much.
00:30This is the tremendous precision, the tremendous organisation of a cup final.
00:43It's such a gala occasion.
00:46Magnificent military bands, they come on, the players are already on to carry on with
00:54this, what is turning out to be a magnificent FA Cup final.
00:59Only one goal so far scored by Neil Young, number 10 of Manchester City.
01:07The crowd have really had value for their money, both in organisation, entertainment,
01:12football and all the gala pageantry of an FA Cup final.
01:20So to the second half, Manchester City to kick off.
01:25How many more times is that ball going to go in the net?
01:34Mr McCabe waiting for the applause for the band to cease as the band goes into the players' tunnel.
01:41And Manchester City start the second half, one goal to nil in the lead.
01:51Great difference, as I can see it, between these two teams, is when Manchester City attack
01:57they seem to have the ability to throw so many people up, whereas the Leicester attack
02:02never really has functioned on all five cylinders.
02:06Club out.
02:12That's been quite a bit of all-by-third.
02:16Magnificently as Manchester City have been playing, this final is by no means over.
02:22No means over.
02:42Nish, to Clarke, to Gibson.
02:47To Fern, number seven.
02:50No corner.
02:52All the ball must be over the line before it's out of play.
02:56Well, Fern did well to screw that in.
03:02Mr Franco-Farris told Leicester, don't allow them to pressurise you.
03:06Keep going at them for a change.
03:09Rodriguez.
03:11Fern.
03:13There's no-one around to help him.
03:16Oh, I thought Lockhead was going to string his boot.
03:19A brave boy was Tony Booth.
03:25Corner kicked to Leicester.
03:28Tony Booth was very, very brave then, and Lockhead did well to hold his leg back.
03:34Corner.
03:36In-stringer from Gibson.
03:41Clarke seemed to lose the ball in flight then.
03:46Bell, young on his right.
03:52And Nish.
03:54Through to Clarke.
04:00Well, this is a change round from the first half.
04:06Roberts to Lockhead.
04:10Foul.
04:12Turned behind by Booth.
04:28Free kick.
04:31To Leicester, and Nish.
04:33Manchester defence coming out to try and get somebody offside.
04:38Rodriguez to Gibson.
04:41To Clarke, to Fern, and Leicester playing some sparkling stuff now.
04:44In goes Lockhead.
04:47Clarke.
04:56Offside against Glover.
05:03Then Glover, recovered from injury, to play in this Cup Final.
05:07He's taken off in the semi-final, you may remember.
05:12What a great ball from Samedi, to Oaks.
05:17Manchester's first attack of the second half, to Coleman.
05:30Lockhead's a great determination then.
05:36Lockhead to Clarke.
05:39Gibson moving up on the right, and it's a great ball.
05:57And...
05:59Gibson.
06:00Then a flag over the wall, and it's a free kick.
06:03Flag over the wall, and it's a free kick.
06:07To Manchester City.
06:14It's Tony Coleman limping away from that tackle.
06:25Number three, Pardo, to take the free kick for Manchester City.
06:34Goal kick to Leicester City.
06:39Five minutes of the second half gone, 1-0 for Manchester City.
06:42The second half, a much brighter one for Leicester.
06:45Goal kick to Leicester City.
06:50Five minutes of the second half gone, 1-0 for Manchester City.
06:53The second half, a much brighter one for Leicester.
07:04Still Manchester looking very composed and a very efficient team.
07:08Goal.
07:10Samedi on the right.
07:16Corner kick to Manchester City.
07:20Max Samedi on his day, one of the most dangerous players in the business.
07:30No, Manchester City player has gone up to pressurise the defence.
07:34In fact, only Coleman and Bell, number eight, in the box at the moment.
07:38Now, folks beginning to move up.
07:45Goal.
07:56Leaf.
08:16Yup.
08:17Down to Pardo.
08:26Leicester's ball.
08:33I don't think we were in any doubt from that appeal, were we?
08:40What a beautiful ball to cover.
08:42Lockhead moving into the middle.
08:44Gibson's there, Clarke is there.
08:48Clarke, Lockhead!
08:50It's a goal!
08:56Andy Lockhead must be wondering now.
08:58Eight feet high, eight yards wide, and how could I miss?
09:05Well, that's got the crowd really wondering when Leicester are going to take one of these chances.
09:10They've had three really good chances in the match so far.
09:14Of course, you can't take them all.
09:23That's Oaks.
09:27Manchester use the short ball so much, they're so accurate though when they fling a long one.
09:35Samedi.
09:37Pushing Nish in the chest.
09:41Free kick two.
09:44The man who did the foul, Mike Samedi.
09:47David Nish, the man who was fouled, and he will take the free kick four.
09:52Leicester City.
09:53Leicester City.
10:10Coleman to Young.
10:17It's Coleman again.
10:18Look, committed to covering, he's got Roderigues in reserve.
10:24And Roderigues to Gibson.
10:28Beautiful one to Clarke.
10:31Now to Fern.
10:34A young player, Fern, 20 years of age.
10:53Number seven, Fern.
10:56That's a good ball to Glover.
11:00Glover, who's had very little match practice since the semi-final, probably feeling the effects of it.
11:08Oh, a foul!
11:11Fell was drinking clean through then.
11:15It was a desperate tackle by Roberts.
11:24Roberts, being spoken to by the referee.
11:32Change the play!
11:35Here's Bell, and there's the tackle.
11:39Almost straight out of the Twickenham book, wasn't it?
11:46Ten minutes of the second half gone.
11:49Free kick.
11:50Second half gone.
11:52Free kick.
11:53Now, as Bell is alright, free kick to Manchester City, who lead 1-0.
12:01Now then.
12:05Tied up for Bell.
12:08Well, that was harmless enough.
12:10I thought maybe they would have tried to give Francis Lear a shot, but instead they played it to Colin Bell.
12:20The wind, rather blustery, it's blowing from left to right.
12:24The way that Leicester are kicking.
12:27And Leicester will end up facing it in the first half.
12:39Push by Rodriguez into the back of number 11.
12:44Coleman.
12:46Full marks to Mr McCabe, incidentally, for the way he's controlled this game.
12:50The last game he'll referee, because he retires after this.
12:56Lee, number 9.
12:59To Bell, Lee.
13:00And Willett read that beautifully.
13:04Splendid football by Manchester.
13:06You see Lee pushing the ball, running forward, giving the return.
13:12It's all exciting stuff.
13:15Corner to Manchester City, going to be taken by Coleman.
13:23Nobody pressurising the goalkeeper.
13:25Doyle in the penalty box.
13:33Gipps, so far in this second half, this boy Clark has played a more forward role than he did in the first half.
13:40Roberts was forced to play a quick one, not a very accurate one.
13:46Glover.
13:49Number 2, Rodriguez.
13:53Way to intercept him on his Go Pardo.
13:56Oh, Manchester have got it 3 against 2.
13:59To Somerby, Lee is waiting in the middle.
14:05Roberts gives away a corner.
14:10And he's hurt.
14:12Must have overstretched as he got to that ball.
14:22Roberts seemed to have overstretched and got hurt in his knee.
14:26To Somerby.
14:38Franco Farrell looking rather worried with Malcolm Muscov on his right.
14:42Oh no, not before, I think he's just twisted it a little bit.
14:44He's having treatment from George Peston and he seems to be alright.
14:47No question of bringing on any substitutes.
14:48Not at the moment, no.
14:51Roberts, fit and well again.
14:54Somerby going to take the corner for Manchester City.
15:01Lee.
15:05Now Gibson, space in which to start a break.
15:08To number 10, Clark.
15:11Byrne was a bit slow off the mark then.
15:13Google's much quicker than he was.
15:17Young.
15:21Coleman.
15:23Coleman.
15:43Lee to Coleman.
15:46Manchester have got all five forwards up and in comes Mill!
15:49And that header was going like a bullet.
15:52What a goalkeeper Peter Shilton is.
15:55And what a header by Bell.
15:57He really ran onto that.
16:07That's Young to Lee to Bell.
16:10To Young.
16:11And this could be...
16:14Turned the wrong way.
16:19Manchester City are beginning to buzz again as they did in the first half.
16:23Trying all the time to keep the pressure on Leicester.
16:28Roberts.
16:29It's Glover going under the right.
16:30Byrne's gone into the middle.
16:35This boy, Boole, has held Lockett so well.
16:40This youngster, Tommy Boole, who was struggling to keep in the reserve side this time last season.
16:5015 minutes of the second half gone.
16:52Still 1-0 for Manchester City.
16:55Gibson to take the corner kick for Leicester.
16:59Lockett!
17:00And that's why they say this man is one of the most dangerous fellas in the six yard box you could find anywhere.
17:09Really moved to that one.
17:10Doubt never even saw it.
17:13Those are the set pieces from which Leicester can snatch a goal.
17:17They showed in the semi-final that they can produce them out of almost nothing.
17:38Lee.
17:43Lee to Bell.
17:44Oh, what about that from football and ball control to Book.
17:49Coleman, young in the middle.
17:51Lee.
17:53Well, you can laugh, but he'd been connected with that.
17:56I think he's hurt his head when he landed.
17:59Anyway, off for Leicester.
18:00Clark.
18:04That head was running off the ball to try and create a space.
18:07That head was running off the ball to try and create a space.
18:12And Lee is still down.
18:17Tony Book.
18:19Oh, Bell tried to put it out so Lee could have the trainer.
18:22But it's Roberts to Clark.
18:24Lee now on his feet, holding his head.
18:28Gibson.
18:33Manchester is so much sharper now than Leicester.
18:38I don't think Somerville is quite that sharp.
18:44Mark Somerville never really had much chance of getting that ball.
18:48Manchester are quicker off the mark.
18:50They're thinking quicker, moving and getting so many of the interceptions.
18:57Leicester still keeping at it, but the pressure is on them all the time.
19:01Leicester still keeping at it, but the pressure is on them all the time.
19:04The handball.
19:05Roberts, free kick to Manchester.
19:09Number 6, Oakes.
19:16Number 8, Bell.
19:23Somebody at the bell.
19:28Glover.
19:32Leicester never seem to be able to push enough power up front to...
19:36You see City have got...
19:37Manchester have got so many players back now.
19:39So Cross coming up to join in the fight.
19:43So Lockhead.
19:44I think Leicester need him in the middle.
20:02We've heard that Glover is feeling the effects of this so much
20:05that there is a chance he might be pulled off.
20:21Number 10, Young.
20:22Young to Pardo.
20:27Now Pardo.
20:28And he's got Young, number 10.
20:30Oh!
20:31Shelton again.
20:32These boys' references are tremendous.
20:35Here's Glover.
20:37Very hard to come back after no-match franches and take part in a cup final.
20:47Excellent work by Young.
20:50Governor Tony Book is smiling.
20:53Seem to be so many Manchester players around this pitch now.
21:09Lockhead, it's in play.
21:12This is Cork.
21:14And it did catch Manchester rather napping, but Leicester slowed it down.
21:18And it did catch Manchester rather napping, but Leicester slowed it down.
21:22Glover.
21:25Dragunov-Gibson.
21:28Not playing it.
21:29Dragwise has given Manchester time to recover.
21:36And the Leicester trainer is on the far side on the touchline.
21:43Play on, says the referee.
21:44It's Coleman.
21:48Oh!
21:53Leicester trainer, I think, trying to pass a message on to somebody.
22:03Twenty minutes gone.
22:08The second half.
22:10And the pressure is beginning to tell on Leicester.
22:13Some of it.
22:23And Glover is holding that leg of his.
22:28Took him a long time to get up.
22:34And he's got it.
22:35Trying to get up.
22:45Glover looking very tired and very distressed about things.
22:55Now Bell playing the 1-2 ball with Lee.
22:59And look at this determination of Lee.
23:03Back to Somerby.
23:06Cross getting it away.
23:08There's always a Manchester player there.
23:10It's almost murderous pressure.
23:12Young.
23:13And a great tackle by Ron Williams.
23:19Glover is kneeling down.
23:22He's on his feet now, but he looks very unhappy.
23:36Now, Fade.
23:47Number 11 is Coleman.
23:51Bell.
23:55To Lee.
23:59Now cross.
24:02And Lee.
24:06Disgusted at that breakdown.
24:07And back comes City.
24:08It's almost one-way traffic now.
24:12And Leicester looking desperately tired.
24:17Shear gallantry keeping them going at the back.
24:19There's Glover trying to get in the game.
24:22He's limping badly.
24:27Firth.
24:32Somerby for City.
24:36Manchester, that is.
24:37To Poole.
24:38To Lee.
24:47And Leicester want the trainer on the field.
24:50Yes, he's coming on.
24:51He's coming on to have a look.
24:53And here comes a substitute, Manley.
24:55Manley is going to come on.
24:58Manley is coming on.
25:01George Preston is going to take Glover off.
25:05And on to the field.
25:09Comes...
25:10Comes Manley.
25:14And...
25:15There's...
25:16Malcolm Manley.
25:20Well, he came on for Glover in the...
25:23...semi-final.
25:30Franco-Faro must be a very worried now.
25:32Why have you made this substitution?
25:34He's been feeling he's going a little bit.
25:35He's a bit short of the match practice as well, Peter.
25:37So we put a fresh man on.
25:38Malcolm Manley.
25:39Will there be any change in tactics?
25:41Maybe.
25:42Malcolm will play more on midfield, perhaps.
25:44And Crossley will probably push forward a little bit more.
25:49Francis Lee is still having attention.
25:52It's Malcolm Manley.
25:53He's a 19-year-old.
25:54He's a Scot.
25:57Francis Lee is all right again.
26:00The goal kick to Leicester.
26:04Had so much pressure.
26:05So many matches.
26:07So much fighting to stay in the First Division.
26:09They're looking a very tired side now.
26:11But Ben Clark did on his own.
26:16Clark...
26:18...to Gibson.
26:19Cross, the number six, has gone up.
26:30City will try and keep the pace on, I think.
26:33They've noticed that Leicester are looking tired.
26:37Twenty minutes there is to go in this cup final.
26:50Somerville, discarded shin pads and everything.
27:00Nish.
27:04Nish into Cross.
27:05Cross has moved into mid.
27:06And up comes Manley.
27:10And Bell back to the defence.
27:14As Tony Book is roaming in agony on the floor.
27:24Coleman for Manchester.
27:27Coleman for Manchester.
27:35On comes Dave Ewing, the Manchester City trainer, to have a look at Tony Book.
27:44And indeed in that collision, Manley is injured too.
27:53So...
27:57Joe, how do you think the game's going now?
27:59Well, like I anticipated, very, very hard indeed.
28:02You know, they're dying hard, aren't they?
28:04It's anybody's game up to now, I feel.
28:10Joe, are you thinking of bringing on a substitute at all?
28:14Well, we'll consider it.
28:15We'll warm in our substitute at the moment.
28:17We'll just have a look for the next few minutes and see how it goes.
28:21Well, Book is still on the ground.
28:23I think he's going to be all right.
28:24Manley is fit.
28:25And I wonder whether you noticed when Joe Mercer was speaking,
28:28right behind Joe Mercer was the most disappointed man of all,
28:31John Showberg, who missed the final because of injury.
28:34He wasn't able to get fit in time to play for Manchester.
28:36Is Manley all right?
28:38Book all right?
28:42It's a throw-in.
28:43Number in the box, number in the box, number in the box.
28:47It's a throw-in.
28:49Number 11, Coleman, to take it for Manchester City.
28:56Lee.
28:58Yes, that was out.
28:59The linesman has flagged that it was out.
29:01It's a goal kick.
29:05Lee has worked very, very hard leading this Manchester attack.
29:11But it's almost cruel, the pressure that Manchester keep putting on.
29:14Their attack is so dominated.
29:19A bit less than full marks.
29:21They really are gritting their teeth and sticking it.
29:35It's a throw, Manley.
29:39Coleman back in defence.
29:41Coleman back in defence.
29:44A bit of pressure on them and Manchester bring nine men back in defence.
29:48Third.
29:50Rod Reeves.
29:52Don't play too quickly, son.
29:57Bitter Rod Reeves.
29:58Hit that ball much too quickly.
30:12Great throw to Bell.
30:17That is the Leicester end of the ground.
30:19Mainly Leicester supporters.
30:22As their players grit their teeth, the supporters just bite their fingernails.
30:41Doyle.
30:45Doyle.
30:48Corner kick to...
30:51Corner kick to Manchester City.
30:52One by Doyle.
30:56Seventh corner for Manchester City.
31:03Nobody goes up.
31:04I think this one's going to be played back quickly to Tony Book.
31:08Yes.
31:12Offside.
31:14Coleman was brought offside by the defence coming up.
31:23So just 15 minutes.
31:26Leicester are going to snatch this equaliser.
31:30Good determination.
31:31Oh, look at...
31:35And the referees signal that he died over the goalkeeper.
31:41You see, Leicester, when they look out, they suddenly get on to the feet and start.
31:47Most deceptive side.
31:51Say this in their credit, that most teams would have been completely beaten by now with the pressure Manchester have put on.
31:58Great credit to Leicester.
32:00Ray goes cross.
32:07Clarke.
32:08To Manley.
32:10Roberts alongside him.
32:12Fern wanting it in the middle.
32:17Down he goes.
32:18Tripped by Oakes.
32:31Well, I wouldn't like this time in that wall.
32:35Book.
32:36Oakes.
32:38And...
32:40Coleman in lead.
32:42I think Roberts might have it teed up for him.
32:45Might take it himself.
32:47That's the shot from way at the far end.
32:50You know, the sort of shot Shelton will see.
32:52Roberts.
32:55Gibson.
33:01And...
33:03Up goes Pardo for Manchester.
33:08Samavi.
33:18I would have thought that ball had been well over the line, but the linesman says no.
33:25Samavi being very brave, rolling his stockings down, discarding his shin pads.
33:29He might never have worn them, but...
33:31Might hit the play with bare shins.
33:34That's Lee.
33:37Lee with a chance for City.
33:38It's a side netting.
33:43And Francis Lee will...
33:44Manchester have got a play ahead.
33:45It's Oakes.
33:51Yes.
33:52It's not Oakes.
33:53It's Doyle.
33:54Mick Doyle.
34:02And...
34:03Here's Francis Lee.
34:04With the chance.
34:06See how he sends Manley the wrong way and...
34:08Hits the...
34:09Real screamer.
34:10And...
34:11How far is he?
34:12Why, just missed by about...
34:13A few inches maybe?
34:14But notice Shelton covering that post.
34:16Beautifully.
34:20And that's what happens to you if you get a...
34:22Blow in the tummy.
34:23As...
34:25Mick Doyle had.
34:28Sky's getting very dark now.
34:36Leicester...
34:37Took the goal kick much too soon.
34:39They've got to go back and take it again.
34:42Well, Lee too.
34:43Now this might be cramp that's causing the players to roll their stockings down.
34:46Lee, Summerby...
34:48Roberts, Fern...
34:49They've all got their stockings rolled down.
34:54The ground's a bit soft on top.
34:55It must be very, very tiring.
34:58Lockhead to Gibson.
35:01Manley.
35:05Fern.
35:07Clarke.
35:09He's offside.
35:11Clarke is offside.
35:13Again, you see, it already might be offside.
35:16Clarke might have been caught offside but...
35:18They're there, these Leicester players.
35:20When they have the slightest chance, they suddenly bob up from nowhere.
35:32Cross.
35:35To Roberts.
35:38Here comes Clarke again.
35:47Oakes for Manchester City.
35:54Tony Coleman.
35:56And Summerby taking over.
36:01Bell.
36:05Roderick read that beautifully.
36:14Clarke across to Gibson.
36:16The way Leicester are playing, it really is inconceivable they should be in any danger of going into the second division.
36:26Number eight, Gibson.
36:36Lee.
36:39It's Coleman and Bell moving elegantly on his right.
36:46Ten minutes left.
36:48And Leicester bounding back again.
36:50Lockhead.
36:54Clarke versus Youngbull.
36:55Notice how Clarke ran in front to transcribe the ball.
37:00And Lee.
37:01Lee is flat out on his face but the game is going on without him.
37:06It's Clarke.
37:09Boy, Bull has played so well in the Manchester defence.
37:21It's out of play and Lee is going to get the attention he appears to need so dearly.
37:28Ooh.
37:29Whatever it is, it must be very painful.
37:35It's his ankle, obviously.
37:44Joe, how's the game going now, particularly in view of the injuries that seem to be coming up?
37:49There's a few injuries coming up.
37:50I think we've got to control the middle of the park.
37:52I think this is what we've got to try and do now.
37:54Control the middle of the park and play it out to the wings.
37:57This is the answer now.
38:03I don't know whether our watch agrees with the signal we got then from Peter Blake
38:08with the Manchester City physiotherapist.
38:14Ten minutes, we say is probably right, including injury time.
38:20Leicester was anxious to get on with this game.
38:23But the time will be added on.
38:30Well, Lee's a stop as they come but seem to have a painful crack.
38:38Well, Leicester seem to say it's going to be a free kick.
38:42It is a free kick going to be taken by Nish.
38:52Roberts for Leicester.
38:57Roderick's way up there with the attack.
39:02Leicester know that time is running out but what a finish they're making of it.
39:23Russell to Clarke.
39:27Doyle to Book.
39:29This is lovely football to see a team playing so well in trouble like that.
39:32Fernando by Coleman in the end though.
39:37Still the determination of Doyle.
39:43Number 9, Lee.
39:45To Young.
39:48Taking it the wrong way, the wrong foot to the left.
39:53Summerby and again Shilton's there.
40:05Dangerous position in which to concede a free kick.
40:18It goes Summerby and it's a corner kick.
40:23Shilton did well, he was under pressure from behind by Summerby.
40:27He had to go for the ball.
40:30It was a difficult one for the goalkeeper to take.
40:37Young to take the corner kick.
40:53And away goes Roberts for Leicester.
41:00Lovely.
41:04Back to Roberts.
41:13Roderick had to do that to create a bit of space for himself.
41:16There was nothing else he could do.
41:22Young.
41:32Young was offside.
41:36Just five minutes to the end of this final.
41:39Leicester fighting grimly for the equaliser.
41:41Young again offside.
41:53This really has been a nail-biter of a final.
41:56There's been so much good football.
41:58So much excitement.
42:06Quite a bit of injury time, so...
42:11There's quite a way to go yet.
42:14And I think Gibson's foot was caught, then he's gone down in pain.
42:20Young to Coleman.
42:23Young.
42:28And Gibson has hobbled off the pitch so that he could never be caught offside.
42:35Must have hurt him to do it.
42:37Full marks to him.
42:39Now Clarke.
42:41Clarke to Manley.
42:47Manley to Clarke.
42:49Cross.
42:53Number six, Graham Cross.
42:57And...
43:00Gibson's back on.
43:03He's in pain, but...
43:05He's got himself fit again.
43:06Near the end of a cup one, he can't afford to have any luxuries of medical treatment.
43:14I don't think anybody in that crowd would believe that this is really over yet.
43:23Performance by Manchester City, but what a display of courage and determination by Leicester.
43:37To Somerville.
43:42Three minutes to go.
43:45And these 22 players have given everything to this match.
43:53Somerville moved into an offside position, he's all right now though.
43:56Bell to Somerville.
44:02Manchester City can control this game now, they must keep possession for the remaining few minutes.
44:09Lee.
44:11Oh, that's deflected!
44:14Could have been a naughty one.
44:16And...
44:17It's Nish, I think.
44:19Is it Nish who's down?
44:23No, it's Roberts, isn't it?
44:28And...
44:29Just watch this deflection!
44:31And it was a bad fall as much as anything that did.
44:34Roberts nearly caught Shilton off guard.
44:42It hit Roberts on the back and he fell so badly.
44:46Not including two minutes, and not including stoppages, two minutes to go.
44:55Without wishing anybody any harm.
44:58I must say I've enjoyed this cup final so much I wouldn't mind extra time.
45:05Corner to Manchester City.
45:15And...
45:19Cook to Manchester City.
45:27And Kroos giving away a free kick.
45:30Graham Kroos.
45:32He's played his heart out.
45:35Kyle Coleman.
45:37The Manchester City fans have already decided it's all over now.
45:40One minute there is to go, not counting injury time.
45:43Free kick to Manchester.
45:46Cook.
45:47Finding Lee, number nine.
45:57Summerby back to Cook, who wants it close to him.
46:01You see, Manchester City have got Leicester in a position now,
46:04and Leicester can't break out of it.
46:06And these seconds are ticking away.
46:11Manchester can take the time about this now.
46:17Doyle, who's going to take it.
46:19Really, this is just a matter of time.
46:21It's just a matter of time.
46:23It's just a matter of time.
46:25It's just a matter of time.
46:27It's just a matter of time.
46:29Really, this is...
46:31Always City and Manchester are playing, this could be academic.
46:39Forty-five minutes are up.
46:41We now play injury time.
46:43The Lions win a bow signal.
46:45Forty-five minutes up, it's injury time now.
46:49Manchester City, champions last season.
46:52Look as if they're going to be cup winners this season.
46:59And it's all over!
47:04A great performance.
47:06They have played so wonderfully,
47:08but Leicester City have been such tremendous opposition.
47:12And that's the joy of Manchester City,
47:15disappointed they didn't regain the championship.
47:19Joe Mercer, handling on now.
47:21What a great final this has been.
47:23And Joe sportingly congratulates Mr McCabe
47:26and David Nish, the Leicester captain.
47:29That shows you the true sportsman Joe Mercer is.
47:34This, certainly the best cup final for a long, long, long time.
47:43Manchester City played beautiful football.
47:46Leicester matched this with great determination.
47:49They weren't as good a team football-wise.
47:52There's Joe. Joe Mercer must be terribly happy.
47:57And...
48:01Max Somerville made that goal.
48:04He made the goal that made the Cup possible.
48:07And Joe, no doubt, saying,
48:09that's what I kept telling you to do.
48:14And Manchester City now.
48:16You're up to receive the FA Cup.
48:18They played brilliantly, they were a better footballing side than Leicester,
48:22but Leicester deserve full marks for their determination.
48:25They stuck to their grim task.
48:29And they created chances, they didn't take them,
48:32but certainly it was a performance of which all Leicester can be proud.
48:37Now the FA Cup on show as Manchester City go up to receive it,
48:43led by Tony Book.
48:49A worthy victory.
48:51And what a happy man. Footballer of the year, along with Dave McKay.
48:56Skipper of the...
49:00...company. He's almost too tired to get up there.
49:05Receiving the trophy from Her Royal Highness, the Princess Anne.
49:10Behind Her Royal Highness, the Leicester City chairman,
49:13who must be proud of his team.
49:18Well done, Tony Book.
49:22Behind him, Harry Dowd.
49:26And Mr Alexander, the Manchester City chairman.
49:31Right on the left, that's Mr Alexander, a great old man of football,
49:35who's done so much for the game.
49:44Harry Dowd.
49:45Harry Dowd.
49:48Glenn Pardell, the number three behind the goalkeeper.
49:52Dan McDoyle.
49:57And the crowd celebrating as much as the players will be.
50:03McDoyle.
50:05Talking to Oaks and then Lee.
50:11And Neil Young, the man who got the goal, that won the cup.
50:13Behind him, Coleman.
50:15And they all look very tired because, by Jiminy,
50:17Leicester have made them go all the way.
50:19Tommy Doole.
50:21Colin Bell.
50:22And Mike Somerville.
50:25He looks happy enough.
50:27The substitute, Connor.
50:28And David Nish, captain of the gallant Leicester City side.
50:31And no praises too high, Peter Rodrigues, Andy Lockhead.
50:36There's no need to be ashamed, these Leicester City players.
50:39They put on a great performance.
50:41Glenn Glover had to go off.
50:43Peter Shilton just making certain it's there.
50:46Graham Cross.
50:48Davy Gibson.
50:50Alan Clarke.
50:52And George McCabe, the referee.
50:57Who's refereed this game magnificently.
51:00And Manchester City, sportedly, applauding Leicester City
51:03as they come onto the arena.
51:05I've never seen that before.
51:07And it's magnificent to see Manchester City
51:09applauding their gallant opponents,
51:11their very worthy opponents.
51:13After all, it takes two teams to make a great cup final.
51:16This was a great cup final.
51:18So full marks to both teams.
51:22Chevy Wednesday did a lap of honour,
51:24and I reckon Leicester City should, after this performance.
51:30First of all, the national anthem.
51:33We await the three officials to line up with the players
51:38for the national anthem at the end of a really splendid FA Cup final.
52:09THE FANS SING
52:29I think the smile from Princess Anne,
52:32I think she heard some of the Manchester fans singing
52:35God Save Our Gracious Tea.
52:37Now, unfortunately, the Leicester players
52:39are just walking to the dressing room.
52:41And my goodness, they deserve far more than that.
52:45And sportingly, even the Manchester fans are applauding them.
52:52Manchester get ready for the lap of honour.
52:55But the Manchester City supporters
52:57are rising to the Leicester players as they go on.
53:01And Frank O'Farrell, the man who's done so much for this club,
53:04he must be proud of him today.
53:07And look at...
53:08And those are predominantly Manchester City supporters
53:11giving Leicester City a tremendous,
53:13but nevertheless well-deserved, ovation.
53:17But now the victors prepare
53:19for what is always a wonderful side at Wembley,
53:23the lap of honour.
53:26Up goes Tony Mook.
53:30With the cup.
53:38Mick Thoyle, I think, is the strong man.
53:40Yes, it looks like Mick.
53:51How would you like to be a press photographer
53:53when your editor says,
53:54get me some good pictures in the cup with this?
54:01Tony Mook in the background.
54:03Up at the top, the press box.
54:07Well, fancy playing for 90 minutes.
54:09It's a great match.
54:10And now being told, you've got to run, run.
54:13And I think they want Joe Mercer to take part
54:15in the lap of honour.
54:18And Malcolm Allison.
54:20It's Malcolm Allison they want.
54:23And Joe, they want Joe Mercer too.
54:27Malcolm Allison, the first time I think
54:29he's ever taken orders from the players.
54:34And Joe Mercer.
54:38Dave Ewing as well.
55:00And up starts the lap of honour.
55:04Oaks and Books holding the cup.
55:14And...
55:15And...
55:17Wonderful ascending.
55:19The joy of these lads as they break it round.
55:22Joe Mercer's not going round with them.
55:25Perhaps those banty legs of his
55:26couldn't carry him a lap of this pitch.
55:28We'll wait till he hears about that one.
55:31And mainly...
55:32And the Leicester supporters rising to Manchester City.
55:37This really is great to see the opposing supporters
55:40paying just tribute to the opposition.
55:44And the Leicester supporters applaud,
55:47wave their banners, wave their scars.
55:50It's great to see, just as the Manchester supporters
55:53did for Leicester City.
55:56Cup final of which both teams can be truly proud.
56:08Harry Dowd and David Connor, the substitute.
56:25APPLAUSE
56:55CHEERING
