UK Prime Minister Sir Keir Starmer emphasised the importance of the "special relationship" between the UK and US during his first face-to-face talks with US President Joe Biden. Speaking at the White House, Starmer highlighted the enduring and strengthened bond between the two nations. The meeting, held at NATO's 75th anniversary summit in Washington, was followed by private talks in the Oval Office. President Biden praised the UK as the "transatlantic knot" that ties NATO together with its European members, reaffirming the strong alliance between the US and UK.

00:00Good to see you.
00:01I hope you're okay.
00:02Don't get hit in the head with a knife.
00:03You know what?
00:04I'm trying.
00:05Do you want a socket, though?
00:06Do you want a socket?
00:07By the way, I heard.
00:08Good news.
00:09Good news is right.
00:10I tell you what.
00:11That's probably because of the Prime Minister.
00:12I'm not lost a game.
00:13I'm to the Labour government of 2021.
00:14He's got more coming out of the Prime Minister.
00:15It looks like it.
00:16Well, welcome.
00:17And it's good that we had a long conversation on the phone when you won.
00:18Give me your hand there, pal.
00:19We're the best of allies, maybe, in the whole world.
00:31And we really need to continue to cooperate.
00:37A lot we can talk about.
00:38And I think that we start off, we can talk about football.
00:43We call it soccer.
00:44By the way, you know, soccer has become incredibly popular here in the United States.
00:51It's really growing.
00:53But at any rate, there's a lot going on.
00:56I think you're seeking closer ties with Europe.
01:01It's good for all of us, the Transatlantic Alliance.
01:03I think it's a great idea that we're going to be working together on.
01:07I thought we had a good meeting today in NATO.
01:09I thought we had a good meeting.
01:11And I think things are moving in the right direction.
01:14I feel really optimistic about where things are going.
01:17But welcome, welcome, welcome.
01:20Thank you very much, Mr. President.
01:22And firstly, congratulations on a really successful summit.
01:26It's been an incredibly important moment.
01:29Seventy-five years of bigger NATO, a stronger NATO, and a NATO with the resolve that we need.
01:36I thought the medal, the honor, for Jens Stoltenberg yesterday was a very special moment.
01:43I don't think he was expecting it.
01:45No, he wasn't.
01:46He was leaving, and I intervened when he was going to leave.
01:51And I swear to God, my knees are banging to say, no, I'm only kidding.
01:55But I talked to him in the stand, and his wife still talked to me.
01:58She spoke to me yesterday.
01:59I had lunch with him when he was just about to get to the Central Bank and was saying, I'm free.
02:04And then you spoke to him, and he's still in the job.
02:07He's done a great job, done a great job.
02:11But the special relationship is so important.
02:14It's forged in difficult circumstances, endured for so long, and stronger now than ever.
02:21So we're very pleased to be able to come so early in the government to recommit to NATO,
02:28to recommit to the special relationship,
02:30and to have the opportunity to discuss these affairs with you is really important for us.
02:36I kind of see you guys as not tying the transatlantic alliance together.
02:44The closer you are with Europe, the more you're engaged, the more,
02:47because we know where you are, and we know where we are with other countries.
02:52I think that's absolutely right.
02:54Now we go into a cup final on Sunday, on top of all of that.
02:59Very good.
03:00I actually watched, I began to watch the game with the Netherlands, with the Prime Minister,
03:05but we left at 1.30.
03:10You guys are still talking about it?
03:12We haven't seen each other since.
03:15But we've got a lot to talk about.
03:17Thank you all for coming out.
03:19Thank you, sir.
03:24Thank you.
