00:00Motorways. Vast, fast, and teeming with traffic. But taking risks, breaking laws, or letting
00:20lunacy take over, can turn major roads into major disaster zones.
00:28That literally came out of nowhere.
00:34That is a ludicrous piece of driving. This series will uncover the
00:39unbelievable, incredible, and outright outrageous incidents filmed on dashcam
00:47by the public in the UK, and across the world, where incredibly no one was fatally
00:55injured. Don't mess with the lorry. Our panel of driving professionals will
00:59react to the unravelling, travelling disasters in real time, and reveal
01:06the causes behind the carriageway chaos. That is why you check your mirrors. What
01:12led to these dreadful driving disasters? Clearly he wasn't concentrating on what
01:17was going on here. And why virtually all this motorway mayhem was almost entirely
01:22avoidable. Oh my gosh, such carnage. And it's a high-speed game of pinball, and oh!
01:30Ah, that's, that's nasty. Coming up, why it pays to keep your eyes on the skies as
01:44well as the road. Oh look at that big lug, it's gonna go for his windscreen. A left turn. I'm no
01:50scientist, but I know there's gonna be a problem here. Doesn't go right, and tall
01:57trucks get unstuck. Oh, oh wow, oh my goodness, a truck. Our motorways are packed
02:09with people driving sensibly and within the speed limit, but sometimes we feel
02:14like we have to hurry up a bit. Like if you're late for that all-important job
02:18interview, you're driving your wife to hospital to give birth, or you're stuck
02:23in traffic and about to miss bargain hunt. It can make us tempted to speed up
02:28a bit, but driving too fast is not big, not clever, and it could land you with a
02:34very hefty repair bill, as we're about to find out. We begin in Arizona, USA, where
02:42one driver is in a hurry in the hills. Dry, arid, beautiful conditions, sun's
02:47setting, so visibility is gonna be quite hard soon. You've got mountains on one
02:52side, so you can't see round bends. There's windy, there's left, there's right. So we're
02:58riding on board with a driver who clearly thinks that they are a top
03:01driver, and they're following another car that they want to try and keep up with.
03:05Driving fast like this in public is just ridiculously dangerous. This isn't
03:13someone with a dashcam, this isn't someone filming it like normal, this is
03:16someone showing off. But our man behind the wheel doesn't just feel the need for
03:22speed. So you've got double solid lines in the middle of this road, which
03:29actually means do not cross. But our daredevil driver is undeterred by the
03:34scary looking drops or potential oncoming traffic. My stomach on every
03:40turn would be churning, so I'm gonna be reducing my speed for every bend. If you
03:46can't see around here, you've got to be prepared that the worst could be around
03:50that corner. Do you have a crystal ball Richard? Our driver doesn't appear to be
03:55slowing down as he approaches another tight bend.
04:04Veering across to the left. That speed, no matter how much he tries to steer now to
04:09the right, that traction ain't gonna get that grip again. He's lost front grip. The
04:16only way to get that back is to correct to the left. But it's all too little, too
04:20late. He knows he's messed up big time.
04:28Straight off the carriage way and it's rolled. My goodness, that's a big crash.
04:37Incredibly, the driver escaped serious injury in this frightening freefall. And
04:43as for his car? Bang, bang and that is the end of that car's life. That was carnage.
04:51But what did he expect? What indeed? When I see people trying to drive like this on
04:58the public road, I just shake my head in despair because they think they're in
05:02the fast and the furious. In reality, they're just fast and foolish. We're
05:09staying in Arizona for our next clip where another speed demon is about to
05:13cause more drama in the desert. It's dry, it's dusty and we are in lane two of the dual
05:20carriageway. Road in front, quite clear. Only one car on the right-hand side at
05:26the moment and nice distance in front. But this sunny trip through the desert
05:31is about to take a turn for the worse.
05:36Look how fast that Jeep on the right comes flying past him. He's just about
05:43cleared that yellow vehicle. That's a very strange manoeuvre. He's driving
05:47erratically. And they continue to do so as they attempt another fast pass.
05:55Well they're driving that SUV like they think it's a Mustang and clearly it doesn't
06:00handle like a Mustang. They're starting to lose control and they've touched their
06:05brakes already and if you're steering and hitting your brakes really hard
06:09you're going to lock your wheels and you're gonna lose control. Far before, he's
06:15lost control, started to fishtail and now he's going to the dry patch of desert area.
06:20There is only one way this is gonna go.
06:24That is absolutely crazy.
06:36As the dust literally clears it looks like it's R.I.P. for the SUV and once
06:42again it's all down to speed. The faster you're going the more sensitive your
06:47steering is. One slight movement is really gonna send your car flying.
06:53Vehicles like that are designed to be driven at high speeds and to be thrown
06:57around like that. Well if you're gonna drive like that this is what you get.
07:01Crash, bang and wallop. Elsewhere in the US, this brazen biker in Florida appears
07:12to be in a bit of a hurry. We are going on a motorbike extremely fast. Passing
07:17these vehicles you're probably looking 80, 90 miles an hour there easy. It's not
07:22particularly well surfaced roads. The freeway might be a bit bumpy but our
07:27biker is going flat out along with a white BMW in front.
07:32There's a massive thing between bikers and cars. Everyone that's got a high
07:37performance car always think they're faster than a biker. You're fueling the fire.
07:40They're flying along. Anything can happen to her at any moment and every other
07:45motorist on the road is in danger. Tearing through the traffic the BMW
07:51approaches another bumpy section of road.
07:55Oh he's bounced hasn't he. Those tires are not getting full contact with
08:03the road and when you're going at that speed and you're driving swerving in and
08:07out you lose half the traction.
08:10The BMW is already losing the rear end. Whoa dear oh dear.
08:21Game over. Damage done. One fewer BMW on the interstate. That's a trip to the body
08:32shop. Nice. And it seems it's not just the driver of the white car who was
08:38responsible for their barrier bashing collision. The person on the motorcycle
08:42is as guilty as the white car is for driving offences. Luckily there's no one
08:47else injured or no one else involved in it.
08:51You might have two people racing but there's no winners in this. And if that's
08:57not enough of a warning to slow down a bit here's some quick advice. The problem
09:02you've got at driving incredibly high speeds is the fact that you can't see
09:07obstructions, you can't see things coming up ahead, you can't break in time. Driving
09:12too fast is extremely dangerous and speed limits are generally there for a
09:16reason. So stick to them and just slow down. Coming up a truck has a smashing
09:24time in Thailand. Oh he's hit a barrier. And a biker gets more than he bargained
09:33for. Oh my goodness.
09:47As we know poor driving can result in putting others in danger and laws being
09:53broken. But there's one law that simply cannot be broken on a motorway and that
09:58my friends is the law of gravity. As our next set of clips demonstrate. We begin
10:07in Eastern Europe on a night drive through some thoroughly miserable
10:11weather. It's a dark and stormy night this one. This is one of these big
10:16thunderstorms you quite often get in Europe. These driving conditions are
10:19about the worst you're gonna see in most of the world. Well Sam if you think
10:24they're bad now they're about to get a lot worse. Courtesy of a building site
10:28up ahead on the left.
10:33Look you can see the big crane up there wobbling around in this high wind. Crane
10:39is ever so slowly starting to lean in these conditions as the winds picked it
10:43up. That crane seems to be taking a little bit of a topple.
10:53Oh blimey Charlie that's not good.
10:58Wow the whole lot's falling down blimey. And it's hit the power cables.
11:11Pylons everywhere, sparks and water. There's a big flash of blue. Somehow the
11:20enormous crane narrowly avoided landing on the moving traffic below. How that
11:25didn't hit any car I'm astonished. But now there's a new danger in town. High
11:32voltage electricity and a wet road that's not something you want to go
11:35playing with. I'm very pleased that they're in a car with rubber tires if I
11:38was them I wouldn't get out. Sensible advice Pete. Any other suggestions? I
11:43think that this could be the trailer for the new James Bond movie Cranefall.
11:48That wasn't exactly what I had in mind but I'll pass it on.
11:55Next we're in Bangkok where one biker is about to have a very bad day. So here we
12:06are on a beautiful day in Bangkok traveling down the road. Four-lane road
12:10here. Traffic's a little bit heavy but I think quite a few people wanting to turn
12:13right. Everything seems calm and peaceful but all that's about to change as the
12:20traffic starts to move away underneath a low hanging cable. Oh so we've got a
12:25little bit of a power cable or a telephone cable. Very very low. And the
12:33arrival of a truck on the left is about to make it even lower.
12:41This truck coming along just snags that cable hanging down. It's falling down
12:46across the roads but it's still got some tension in it. And that's it. It's
12:52down now. It's gonna be in the carriageway. With the cable swinging
12:56dangerously over the highway it's not long before disaster strikes.
13:06Oh my goodness. Oh wow. Just grabs him off the motorbike. The rider actually grabs
13:14hold of the cable because it's like someone's just thrown a rope at him and
13:16he's just trying not to be catapulted off into the sky. I mean that could have
13:21sliced through him like butter. So look where he bounces out. Straight into that
13:26carriageway where the black van had just been. Look at that.
13:33The bewildered biker is checked on by another rider. Luckily he wasn't
13:39seriously injured. I'm genuinely surprised that that motorcyclist was
13:45able to get up and walk away from that. I mean to go from that speed to zero. An
13:52extremely lucky rider. Now to the I-87 in New York State in the USA. Dual
14:02carriageway. Two lanes separated by a central reservation. Oh a nice shiny tanker
14:06Laurie look at that. That's nice and clean isn't it? Everyone likes a shiny tank.
14:11Steadily driving on the inside not going too fast or anything like that.
14:16Everything on the road seems to be in order but keep your eyes on the wooded
14:20area to the right.
14:25Is that a tree? Oh my god is a tree falling down into the road?
14:33Straight across both carriageways. What are you gonna do there?
14:42That tree has not just smashed into small pieces. That tree has mashed into
14:48logs and those logs are currently hurtling at that car. It's like a thousand
14:54different vampire hunters have appeared chucking stakes at your car.
15:01Oh look at that big log it's gonna go for his windscreen. Done the windscreen, it's done
15:09the dashboard, it's done the dash cam I think. I think I just might have weaned
15:16myself a little bit that scared me. Windscreen smashed the driver's vision
15:21is obscured but somehow they get the car to safety. Straight on the hard shoulder
15:26because there was a truck behind him there. Good bit of driving on the
15:30person there that's pulled the vehicle to a safe stop. Luckily the driver didn't
15:34get so much as a splinter. But is there anything we can do if we find ourselves
15:40in the same situation? You can't foresee it happening. I mean when the last time you
15:45drove down the road I expected a tree to jump out on you and you just got to do
15:48what this driver's done. Apply brakes as quickly as you can, drive through the
15:51debris and bring your vehicle to a stop as quickly as possible.
15:56Heavy goods vehicles, the most massive machines on the motorway. Articulated
16:04trucks can weigh up to 44 tons, the same as 366,000 beef burgers and I'm suddenly
16:12very hungry. But driving heavy trucks on motorways isn't easy and when things go
16:18wrong they can go very wrong indeed.
16:25Our first tale of truck trauma is in Thailand where one lorry driver's day is
16:31about to get off to a terrible start. Early morning as we're making our way
16:36down the road. It's a bit of a miserable day out there, we've got a bit of rain
16:40going on. Keep your eye on lane one where a truck is approaching a bridge. So we've got
16:47a vehicle on the left-hand side getting a little bit close to the barrier. Looks
16:53like he's starting to drift a bit, looks like he's drifting towards what should
16:57be the central reservation. Oh no.
17:04Oh he's hit a barrier, he's hit a barrier. Oh ouch. So as you've made contact there
17:12look at the back wheels of the truck. Once he's hit that bridge support there's
17:19nothing you can do about it now.
17:23Holy moly now he's gonna go over to the other side. That's rocking backwards and
17:29forwards, they're trying to take control but it's all over.
17:43Oh it's been spun over onto his side. Major major problems and an incredible
17:50mess. The truck is well and truly totaled with parts of the chassis left lying on
17:57the motorway. That's his axle, he's lost his axle, he's ripped it clean off. Poor Johnny.
18:04Fortunately the driver was unscathed but the cause of the crash remains a mystery.
18:09I mean I can only put that down to distracted driving or he could quite
18:13possibly be tired, he could have fell asleep behind the wheel. If you are tired
18:18pull over, have a coffee, wash your face, reassess the situation. Am I capable of
18:23going on and if you're not, don't. Back in Blighty on the M3 in Hampshire a car
18:32transporter is rolling merrily along on its many big sturdy wheels. We've got a
18:37big sturdy wheels. We've got three lanes on the motorway, looking pretty clear. The
18:42roads are a little bit damp. We've got a vehicle transporter in lane one here
18:47traveling down the carriageway, so normally a 44 ton vehicle.
18:55Oh hello, no that's not right is it. Looks like he might have had a blowout
19:01because I can see bits of rubber flying everywhere. I've had a blowout myself and
19:05it's frightening. It is like a gun going off. But not as frightening as what happens next.
19:15When that tyre goes, imagine someone grabbing that steering wheel and wrenching it out of
19:21your hands. The transporter has also spilled one of the cars it's carrying into the path of
19:26oncoming traffic. Can you imagine being a driver, just going about your day, nothing else to do.
19:34This white car has just been launched towards you on screen. It's like a final destination moment
19:38right there. Fortunately the incident didn't result in any major injuries, thanks in part
19:44to the actions of the lorry driver. He has tried to slow the lorry down. You can see him putting
19:50his brakes on very clearly. If you have a blowout, you are in the lap of the gods. We were up against
19:56the laws of physics here. They're carrying quite a lot of weight and they'll be up against it to
20:01try and get that situation under control. I think the lorry driver did really well to control
20:06the vehicle and he managed to somehow keep the rest of the trailer upright after going
20:10over the central reservation. Is it wrong for me to say I'm marginally impressed?
20:16More impressed than the people still waiting for their new car to be delivered I imagine.
20:24Over to the A1 in Yorkshire, home of the White Rose, where one driver's day is about to be
20:30anything but rosy. Okay so a lovely bright sunny day, dry road. So we've got this smaller lorry
20:38just cruising up on lane one of the dual carriageway. Unexpectedly the small lorry
20:45carrying a truckload of milk starts drifting out of their lane. The way that vehicle is just
20:52gradually veering over to the left. Maybe they want to move into the lay by themselves but there's
20:58no indicator. They're going far too quickly to be wanting to stop in the lay by. Instead of stopping
21:06for a tea break the veering vehicle continues to race towards a parked up HGV. So in my opinion
21:14here this is an absolute mistake. It's clearly a distraction whether he's asleep or just distracted
21:20by a mobile device inside the vehicle. He's at speed, definitely not slowing down. Nobody
21:27realises he's literally heading into the direction of that truck.
21:34Is he gonna make an attempt to steer out of it? Whoa no no stop stop. Please no.
21:40Jeez. Oh dear. Look at it. It actually sends the rear of that little lorry bouncing up into the air.
21:59I mean there's no way that you're gonna not feel that. How is the lorry still moving?
22:05And it looks like this close call was probably also a pretty big wake-up call.
22:10The driver at this point if he was dozing off he's gonna be extremely awake now. A centimetre
22:18even closer to that vehicle along with the weight that they're carrying as well
22:22could have been a hell of a lot worse. Very very very lucky driver. Nevertheless the dairy driver's
22:29day definitely went sour after it semi-skimmed that truck. Okay I think I've milked that one enough.
22:36Coming up, a minivan takes on a giant truck. Slow down, stop, pull back into the left.
22:44What are you doing? And a lorry hits a low point on a highway. Move over.
22:50Move over.
23:05There are loads of things that I like cutting up. Like pizzas, sandwiches, my wife's credit cards.
23:12But what I don't like cutting up is other drivers on the motorway. Because as we're about to see
23:18this menacing manoeuvre can lead to some very nasty incidents.
23:26We begin in Thailand with a cutting up between a minivan and a truck. Looking forward at a road
23:33that's a little bit damp, busy. That truck looks absolutely enormous. So you've got the lorry in
23:39the right lane and a white van in the left lane. The minivan driver indicates they want to move
23:46over into the other lane. They're obviously trying to overtake the lorry that's in front of
23:51them. There's not really a hole and I think they're trying to make a hole where there isn't one.
24:00Looks like he's hurled off. But not for long. Now the lorry must see him coming but realistically
24:08on the right hand side he's not got nowhere to go. And so begins a dangerous game of chicken
24:14with neither prepared to give up. He's got the lorry closing in on the right hand side.
24:19He is not going to take that gap, no way, no. I think the minivan is just literally physically
24:25forcing a gap. Slow down, stop, pull back into the left. What are you doing? Trucker's got nowhere to
24:33go. Hard on the brakes. You can see skid marks there from the lorry so he's had to hit his brakes
24:42at some force to create that. He's got no chance of saving this now.
24:50Oh wow. The big truck has a big crash into a deep ditch while the minivan drives off into the
24:59distance. That white van should never try to get through that small gap there. The minivan is very
25:07aggressive and expects the truck to be able to suddenly slow down and make that gap suddenly
25:11appear. The truck simply cannot do it. It's too big, it's too heavy. The driver of that white
25:18vehicle needs to learn how to overtake safely. If they want to fly me over to Thailand and I can
25:22give them some extra lessons, call me. Meanwhile in North Carolina, USA, a truck with a dash cam
25:32is dashing freely down the freeway. Got a bit of a snowy icy day out there. You know it's a little
25:39bit tenuous but we're all driving along. We've got the truck on the left hand side here. Good
25:44old set of speed. He's got a pace on him. Up ahead, a silver car starts to creep across the carriageway.
25:52So we've got the silver car making a lane change from lane one over to lane three,
25:58indicating left at this stage. But the silver car isn't just moving into lane three,
26:05it's practically grinding to a halt. I think what's happened here is they've realized too late
26:10it's their exit but they've stopped on the carriageway. They haven't even moved into place.
26:16And missing their exit is about to have catastrophic consequences.
26:21I'm no scientist but I know and that truck is going to take a lot longer to stop than that car.
26:27Oh that's not good, that's not good at all. Wow, look at that.
26:36That car has just been crushed like a can of pop. They've caved the entire boot in,
26:41they've caved in the whole the back wings. I don't think the insurance is going to put
26:45that one out for repair. You can tell how hard that is to get out of the car.
26:52You can tell how hard that impact was just from the ride that the windscreen just completely
26:59smashed and then sprayed everywhere. It was like mist. Luckily, unlike the back of her car,
27:07the driver wasn't seriously hurt. The best thing they could have done in that situation,
27:13they've realized they've missed the exit, go on to the next exit, turn around safely, come back.
27:19It's going to cost five, ten minutes of their time but it's got to be better than this outcome.
27:29Now to the UK and one of my top seven motorways in the Midlands, the M42.
27:36It's night time, driving conditions are great, appears to be dry, there's no obstructions,
27:42there's no fog. It's not a particularly busy scene, it's well lit, visibility is clear.
27:48And so are lanes three and four, but not for long.
27:55We've got the silver car in lane three.
27:59And they get heavily cut up by a car that's coming in from the outside lane.
28:04No indicating and he's on a brake check, leaving the silver little Polo nowhere to go.
28:10Well, nowhere to go safely, that's for sure.
28:13Silver car now has had to slam on their brakes.
28:20We're out of control, it's fishtailing.
28:22The weight and the load transfer of the car is going from one side so the driver corrects,
28:27but then they over correct, the car then skids the other way, then they do the opposite.
28:32That silver car is literally flapping around in that lane.
28:36It's all going to go wrong.
28:44He saved it, they've held it, good bit of driving there.
28:54That is amazing.
28:57What a professional.
29:02But what should you do if you get cut up and then start to lose control of your vehicle?
29:08Here's Ben with some advice.
29:09Take your foot off the throttle, take your foot off the brake,
29:12let the vehicle just come to a rest in the road.
29:15Both hands on the steering wheel, always on a tight grip,
29:18and then vehicle just comes back to a straight line.
29:21If a cut or upper forces you to brake hard,
29:24try to make sure your vehicle is equipped with the latest tech.
29:28A lot of cars now are fitted with ABS, anti-lock braking systems,
29:32which stops our wheels from locking so we're able to correct skids
29:36and keep control of the car.
29:39So ensure that you know how to use the anti-lock braking system.
29:46Finally, drive extra carefully at night time.
29:50When it's dark, your reactions could be a lot slower, you could be more tired.
29:55So drop back even further than what you think you should do and keep driving safely.
30:05There are lots of advantages of being a tall person.
30:08They're easily found in busy places, get great views at concerts,
30:12and meet lots of nice old ladies at the supermarket
30:15who need their help getting spam off the top shelf.
30:19But they also have to be careful not to bang their head on stuff all the time,
30:23and it's no different for tall vehicles on the motorway.
30:30Our first tall tale takes place in New York State in the USA.
30:36So traffic's flowing nicely, conditions dry.
30:40We're looking at a bridge that's coming up.
30:42And about to broach that bridge is a high-sided lorry.
30:48High-sided vehicle looks a little bit close to that arch bridge in the distance there.
30:54When you've got arch bridges,
30:55it's always best for a lorry driver to stick in the middle of the arch
30:58because that's where the maximum height is.
31:00Obviously the height's going to be greatly reduced on the edges.
31:06But the edge of the arch is precisely where they're headed.
31:15Oh my God, that was so close.
31:20Just about made it underneath there.
31:22Wasn't a lot of room to spare for that one.
31:26Disaster averted for now.
31:29Because up ahead is another flatter bridge.
31:34He's going to do it again.
31:36This might end badly.
31:44Oh no, that was lucky.
31:49But coming up, another arched bridge.
31:52And the trucker is still in the right lane, which is also the wrong lane.
32:00Move over.
32:06Oh, oh, wow.
32:08Oh, ah, dear, that's not good.
32:16Boom, look at that.
32:18Wow.
32:20Carnage.
32:27That is my absolute worst nightmare as a lorry driver, is a bridge strike.
32:31No driver ever wants to be in that situation.
32:36Fortunately, the driver was OK.
32:39The truck, on the other hand.
32:43Look at the state of that.
32:45It's just peeled open, hasn't it?
32:47Looks like a banana skin there on the side of the road.
32:52Well, it certainly seems like quite the slip up by the driver.
32:56If he'd maybe taken that lane two of the carriageway,
32:59he potentially would have got through this OK.
33:02So the driver is not going to be too happy with that one.
33:09Staying in the US, we're in Dallas, Texas,
33:12where an unsuspecting motorist is in for a really rubbish day.
33:18So we're riding along in the USA, dry weather but an overcast day.
33:22Quite a fast moving carriageway here, and we've got a large goods vehicle
33:28ahead of us, quite high sided.
33:33And one that's full to the brim of rubbish.
33:35And up ahead, guess what?
33:37A bridge.
33:42Just coming up to the bridge here, you can see that height restriction warning.
33:46That lorry looks a bit tall for that bridge.
33:48He's not exactly slowing down.
33:51Oh, it's going to be close, it's going to be close.
33:58Oh, my goodness, that truck.
34:06Oh, what a mess.
34:17Spray of waste and junk.
34:21It looks like a Star Wars explosion.
34:24And the force of that truck's debris is definitely with the dashcam driver,
34:29but not in a good way.
34:31With all that metal and debris coming towards them,
34:34we've potentially got punctures, loss of control, extreme danger here for the driver.
34:42Why isn't the camera car slowing down or moving out the way?
34:46Because he doesn't know what kind of debris that is.
34:48It could be anything.
34:50While the camera car carries on cruising,
34:53the driver of the littering lorry appears to be oblivious to their junk fetty on the freeway.
35:01But the driver doesn't realize he hasn't got a clue.
35:04Carry it on, what's he doing?
35:07Stop.
35:09Not sure he can hear you, Hayley.
35:12If he'd have looked in his mirrors when he felt or heard something,
35:15then he would have seen the absolute colossal carnage left behind him.
35:21Worse still, in front of the truck is another bridge.
35:25He's not going to do it again, is he?
35:27Surely not.
35:32No.
35:37We're winging it over to the state of Wisconsin now,
35:41where we're on the tail of a tall tipper truck.
35:44Cold part of America.
35:46Nice dry road, though.
35:48We've got an open road here,
35:51but we've got a truck in front with what looks like a rather high load.
35:57Something doesn't look quite right, because he looks a lot taller than what he should be.
36:02It's clearly not in its travel position as he should be driving down the road.
36:07The tall truck approaches some overhead signs.
36:09Instead of a bridge for a change.
36:13He's getting very, very close to that gantry.
36:21Yep, they've limboed under that one.
36:23That's good.
36:25But ahead, yes, you've guessed it.
36:28It's a bridge.
36:32Is it going to fit under this bridge?
36:34Again, we've made it under the others.
36:36This surely has got to be a little bit taller.
36:42He might have to breathe in a little bit to get underneath that, I would say.

37:40You need to be aware of what road you're going on,
37:42what the restrictions are on that road.
37:44And you need to be aware if your vehicle's going to fit or not.

40:14you need to get the vehicle over to the hard shoulder or somewhere safe
40:18as quickly and safely as you possibly can.

40:34What must have happened here is overnight,
40:37there's been water sitting on the top of that truck.
40:41That water has frozen.
40:43Now, as that ice has broken up, it's not stuck to the top of the lorry anymore
40:47and it's going to come flying off.
40:49As soon as you start seeing things like that flying off back,
40:52you need to be slumming on your brakes or slowing as quickly as you can do.

41:12Next, we're getting seriously snowy as we head way into north-eastern Europe.

41:20So we've got a lorry that looks like it's broken down possibly.
41:22And that lorry is obstructing the traffic coming up from behind.
41:27You can see this 4x4 coming at quite some speed towards the back end of this lorry.

41:42Spraying the snow absolutely everywhere.

41:49They're actually the snow equivalent of aquaplaning at this point.
41:53So they've lost control of the vehicle.
41:55One skidding car is a problem.

42:58And what do our experts think caused these slip-sliding smashes?
43:03There's clearly a large patch of ice and everybody's hitting it.
43:08And they're going too quick for the conditions.
43:11They have no chance of stopping.

43:21But what else can we do to avoid icy incidents like this?
43:26In very icy conditions, you'll see drivers overreact.
43:30They'll slam on their brakes and lock up their wheels.
43:34So you need to ease off the brakes.
43:37Also, turning the steering wheel very aggressively, that's not going to help you either.
43:42You're just going to spin around and just get into a bigger accident.
43:47The key is, in icy conditions, go really slowly.
43:52Just take it easy.
43:53Next time, loose loads cause a load of problems.
