00:00The Supreme Court petitioned several groups of farmers to stop the order to lower the tariff on imported rice and other products,
00:08aside from Executive Order No. 62 to lower the price of rice.
00:11So the tariff on imported rice was lowered by 15 percent from the previous 35 percent.
00:18The petitioners are determined that the agricultural industry in the country will die if this continues.
00:24The Senate also questioned why the tariff commission did not hear or consult on lowering the tariff.
00:31If a senator can lower the tariff whenever there is no rice or the rice is low, instead of the whole of 2024 until 2028.
00:39The tariff commission replied that they review the Executive Order No. 62 every four months and can also petition to change the tariff.
00:47The NEDA said that the respondents to the petition will be answered by the Solicitor General when they receive a copy of the petition.
00:55The Department of Agriculture is concerned that this may affect the decision of the importers and the stocks of rice in the country if the EO62 is stopped.
