State governments have given the federal government 32 offers involving plots of land worth millions of ringgit to build high-quality people's housing projects, says Nga Kor Ming.

The Housing and Local Government Minister said that in the past, some 35% of our allocation would be used to buy land. He said this after attending the Asean-China Ministerial Roundtable on Construction and Housing 2024 on Wednesday (July 3).

00:07Okay. We have two social housing programmes.
00:11One is to take care of middle class, we have Prima Corporation.
00:15So far we have built 53,000 units of Prima homes.
00:18Now we have even embarked on the Prima Township, Prima Town.
00:22Next, another social housing programme is under SPMB, Rumah Mesra Rakyat.
00:28Then we have the third housing programme.
00:30It is called PPR, Programme Perumahan Rakyat.
00:33Programme Perumahan Rakyat was introduced many years ago.
00:36It is time for us to review it.
00:38So I am preparing the cabinet paper to introduce Programme Residency Rakyat, PRR.
00:45PRR will be a new model of Programme Residency Rakyat.
00:50It is more inclusive, which is more commercially viable, higher, better qualities.
00:56We are actually benchmarked against HDB Singapore, Korean, even the developed nations.

01:08So we have actually identified.
01:11So far, I am pleased to inform you after my announcement in Parliament last year,
01:17various state governments have stepped forward to offer free land to us.
01:22In the past, PPR is state governments sell land to KPKT.
01:28So 35% of our allocation has been used just to buy land.
01:34So the construction allocation is very low.
01:37That has resulted into a vicious cycle.
01:39The quality is not there.
01:41Now, we have received 32 offers from all the six.
01:46Many states are now willing to surrender the land to KPKT.
01:51I sent my technical team to look into it.
01:53We have a benchmark marking system, a point system.
01:56Once we are satisfied, it meets our requirement.
02:01We are going to use all the allocation 100% to build quality homes.
02:06Why we can do this?
02:08Because there is no land cost.
02:13For example, 100 million.
02:15In the past, you spent 35 million to buy land.
02:17Now, this all can be spent to build homes.
