00:00And gentlemen take a bow the Cubs did exactly what all three of us predicted and
00:05It was much worse than I thought it would be mr. Day. Marty moly. Yes. Happy Monday first day of July
00:12Cubs are exactly where they were in the last day of June and the first day of June
00:17Headed in the wrong direction and they get home from
00:20Milwaukee today is a much-needed day off
00:24It was it was a series that Friday night was deflating Saturday a little encouraging
00:30And then Sunday more of the same that was not the way things should have ended and it was a very disappointing weekend in Milwaukee
00:38Yeah, it was a hugely disappointing weekend and it was part of it was the way they played right?
00:45I mean part of it were the number of just
00:49Awful plays what happened to the Cubs man? What happened to this team?
00:55They were so mediocre in the outfield and I thought that was supposedly one of their strengths
01:01To open up this season at least so we were told every aspect has been disappointing
01:09Right of the things that you win with on the margins with with Craig counsel
01:14This was the way that the season was supposed to unfold you
01:18Went out and you poached the manager of your rival and you're paying him more than any other and I think that sometimes
01:25That sometimes I mean it creates the expectation that is the Cubs are going to be the way the Brewers were
01:30They're not going to make mistakes on the bases. They're not going to be defensively challenged
01:35They're gonna get the clutch hits and they're gonna do the smart thing and really
01:40halfway through the season
01:42They've not done any of those things consistently
01:44The best thing about the Cubs is they're starting pitching and it let them down on Sunday when they needed
01:49Kyle Hendricks to be the guy he was most of the month had one bad inning, but it was
01:54When your margin for error is that thin one batting will do you in and it did
01:58Yeah, and and the Cubs of the good news if you're looking for good news is that they they weren't
02:05Damned by the runners in scoring position
02:09Statistic because they didn't have any didn't have any they stopped batting after the first inning
02:14They got a leadoff home run. They got a single from Bellinger. They got a walk in that inning. That's all they got
02:21Yeah, I didn't know for the rest of the way
02:24That's they had two runners the rest of the way both walks spread out over the course of the game
02:29It's very frustrating and it came a day after
02:33we thought I
02:35Shouldn't say we it came a day after
02:38There was the suggestion that the Cubs may have turned the corner after Justin Steele
02:43Had a big Z moment. Let loose should have kept going. He stopped. Yeah, he said he had a
02:50Little
02:52He definitely unloaded and the frustration is building and mounting and everyone could relate to that but it didn't mean anything more than
02:59What it happened after that Ian happens a home run they win the game on Saturday and you think okay for 24 hours
03:06Maybe this is the turnaround moment. Maybe this is a pivot point and then you know, the Brewers hit another grand slam. I
03:14Mean, that's a remarkable run. They're on the Brewers. I think have hit five grand slams in their last eight games
03:20Six this season the Cubs have surrendered three in the last eleven. It's bad. That's pretty awful
03:26It is pretty bad and and so Kyle Hendricks was outstanding in the month of June until yesterday
03:31uh-huh, and then you look he gives up seven runs and seven hits and three and two-thirds and now you start to wonder about
03:38you know the
03:39expiration date on his
03:41career
03:42all these things come to mind when you see them kind of collapse the way they did and
03:47They they come home, oh wait the Phillies, oh great. Yeah
03:56Who's out Harper and Schwerber out? Okay, they're both out. That's good. That's good
04:00They're still there's still the Phillies, but you're right. Just saying I think it's good
04:04but I also they're not fully loaded as somebody who I don't want to say this but like I
04:10Was thinking about going to see the Phillies because I like Schwerber and I I think Bryce Harper is one of the most
04:15Exciting players in baseball to watch in person, especially I'd likely go see him. He'd be on my top five listed players
04:22I would we talked last week. Yeah, who would you go see to play?
04:24Yeah, Bryce Harper would be near the top of the list for me
04:28Not playing is good for the Cubs, but I don't know if they're gonna take advantage
04:31I don't know if it's too late to take advantage. I don't know where they are except for
04:35They the cycle of inconsistency continues
