A memorial to former Peterborough councillor and city mayor Charles Swift was unveiled in a poignant ceremony at Fletton Quays on Thursday, June 27. The commemorative plaque was unveiled in a square (adjacent to Peterborough City Council) which has been re-named after the dedicated public servant.

00:00Hi, we're here today because we're unveiling the plaque to Councillor Charles Swift
00:07so that we are renaming this square in his honour.
00:11The man who served this council with distinction for an incredible 62 years.
00:16He was a true gentleman and a true Peterboroughian.
00:20This is a fitting tribute to my father because he would not want anything over the top.
00:25He was not that sort of person.
00:27So he liked things to be, as we say, protocol.
00:32If you cut Charles in half, you'd have seen Peterborough printed across his body
00:40like a blackball sticker rock.
00:44As long as you remember somebody's name, they never die.
00:48And that, I think, will apply to Charles.
