00:00The only thing that's clean about this guy is the cuts. Here's a look at the new
00:04Hyatt toys. The Texas Chainsmasters 2003 Thomas Hewitt Leatherface Slaughter
00:07Version.
00:10This new 1 18th scale Thomas Hewitt Slaughter Version stands 4.33 inches tall
00:30with 15 points of articulation and faithfully reproduces Thomas's hair and
00:34mask from the film. The head sculpt captures Thomas's facial features and
00:37comes with two iconic weapons chainsaw and hammer. To reproduce the atmosphere
00:41of the movie his clothes and weapons have been liberally stained with blood
00:44splatter effects recreating Thomas's terrifying appearance after he
00:47transforms into the murderous maniac. This detailed figure is sure to make a
00:51chilling addition to any horror fans collection. When it comes to his work you
00:55can tell that Thomas puts in the hours. Just before we get a closer look though
00:58at the Slaughter Version 2003 Texas Chainsaw Master Thomas Hewitt Leatherface
01:01I'd like to thank the folks over at Hyatt toys that did provide the sample we
01:05could have a look at. This figure is slated to release in September 2024 for
01:08$24.99. The figure is going to stand the same as the earlier looked at
01:13Thomas Hewitt at 4 inches in height or Leatherface is going to stand at 10
01:17centimeters tall. A second go-around for Hewitt here just because we've already
01:21had a look at the 2003 Texas Chainsaw Master Leatherface. Though looking at the
01:25two I can't help but notice that one is taller than the other. If in fact I put
01:30them back to back I haven't distorted this at all you can see yeah if not
01:34straighten out the legs. The legs are straight you can see the 2003 standard
01:39version Leatherface seems to be taller than the new Slaughter version. I'm not
01:43really sure whereabouts it fell short literally and figuratively. Maybe again
01:47like I don't have the legs completely straight let's just straighten them out
01:50all together here put the two side by side yeah it does look like does look
01:55like the 2003 original version is just a little bit taller. Other comparisons
01:59obviously we'll get down to the details of comparing the two figures though in a
02:02second but it also as well want to bring in the the Netflix version of
02:06Leatherface. It was this version of him that had the clean look. There of course
02:10there was also the Slaughter version that got gifted the additional piece of
02:13the head. Well maybe not having a head. This version though of Leatherface does
02:17still come included with a display stand. The display stand this time around as
02:21you can see looks like it's been quite covered in blood. Just to bring back in
02:24the original one so you guys can see the placement of the scratches are in the
02:27exact same spots corner kind of in the mid area there and then down in the
02:30bottom corner there as well placement of pegs are also in the exact same spots
02:34the only thing again that's done differently is that it just looks like
02:37somebody walked through the house with their dirty muddy shoes except instead
02:40for mud if they're caked in blood just again like looking at two display stands
02:44I don't know like looking at this it almost doesn't look as much like it's
02:48blood it looks like it's I don't know like raspberry jam it looks like it's a
02:51little more pinkish than it is actual red I mean looking at the two they're
02:55okay I mean just to bring back in the display stand we got from the Netflix
02:58series I think really of the display stands I think this one actually does
03:01the one the best just again because it's got some additional like airbrushing of
03:04a darker brown added in there as well just don't know if I like the display
03:08stand for the slaughter version just comes across a little too purplish for
03:12my liking put that off to the side of course to go with that too you get
03:15yourself your eye brackets those eye brackets if you're fairly new to the
03:18idea of these there's a little opening slots here on the sides the sides the
03:22sides the sides as well you're gonna take these eye brackets and basically
03:27they just fit in in place of those and then if you have multiple display stands
03:30you can attach them this way this way this way this way as well and of course
03:37you do have the peg that's gonna plug on to the bottom of either one of his boots
03:40the figure also comes included hands the irony in all of this though is that
03:44considering this is the slaughter version if you look at his hands and the
03:47hands that he has on his forearms they actually are cleaner than the 2003 hands
03:51to bring in the hands that we did get from that one let me just hold on a
03:55second I they're so small I don't obviously don't want to drop them I mean
03:58looking at the two look how grimy the original 2003 Thomas Hewitt's hands are
04:02very dark very brown the the one we get for slaughter version actually ironically
04:06is a lot cleaner if I can actually get my own hands out of the way see that you
04:11see that okay good the hands themselves by the way just you remove the existing
04:15hands that he has on the ends of his forms just replace them with the hands
04:18that he has the other alternate hands funny though enough though is that the
04:21hands that he has I would only really say the difference between the two is
04:25that there's a gap in between the fingers in the palm the hands that he
04:28has as of right now if you look at them they're a little bit more closer
04:32although really still there's enough of a gap that it would still work fine if
04:36you wanted to have them wielding the chainsaw as opposed to the mallet the
04:39mallet though I did start the review with he does come include that just
04:42basically fits into his hand just like that and of course you can do the exact
04:45same thing with this chainsaw too what's weird though is that again bringing back
04:49that the hammerhead I was gonna say hammerhead bringing the sledgehammer
04:54that came included with 2003 I mean again I can't help but notice that one
04:58looks notably cleaner I mean obviously there's a whole lot more blood like
05:01he's been bashing someone's brains in but I mean other than that I mean the
05:04rusted look to the 2003 original version of leather face I think looks a lot
05:08nicer the newer one and again while it is still blood I'm glad to see and
05:13appreciate the fact that there's actually blood on it I think I still
05:15like the original hammer the original mallet just a little bit more I don't
05:19feel that that changes at all either when we look at his chainsaw the
05:23chainsaw for comparisons bringing back in the 2003 version this part of the the
05:29back of the all over the place here the back of the chainsaw here is kind of
05:33more visibly red the griminess has taken basically wind of the entire back
05:39section of the chainsaw now has left it kind of more of a brownish color you get
05:43few little more traces of red peeking its way through but looking at the
05:46actual teeth of the chainsaw one is a definitely a lot darker of a gray one
05:51also has more additional paints that's airbrushed again all around the outer
05:55end of the teeth this one though doesn't have as much of that darker color but it
05:59leaves I suppose room for now blood the blood actually is the one thing I do
06:03like about it and really of all the things that he has the chainsaw is one
06:06of my favorite things because the blood I think is handled nicely it doesn't
06:09look as purplish perhaps as this place hand but it does look like again he
06:13what's been busy again either one of these can be wielded with either this
06:17version of leather face or again if you want to be line it back to the 2003 the
06:20cleaner version you can also have because they're exact same the exact
06:23same accessories to get these though in his hands he does have you know bends in
06:27his elbows the the bends unfortunately though were one of the disappointing
06:30things about the original leather face just because you only have this much of
06:33a hinge and already the arm guard that he has takes up a lot of that real
06:36estate space if you wanted to you just basically pry the fingers away from the
06:41palm still I mean I have to kind of really question why they would have
06:44even included the extra hands I mean he had he has the hands right now suitable
06:49enough to for holding the chainsaw although the biggest problem has always
06:51really been with this figure even with the original one is that with not enough
06:54elbow bend accommodating this figure like the Netflix version did have a
06:59double hinge on his elbow this regular version of Thomas Hewitt only has again
07:03that single hinge and a single hinge has to then share space with the arm
07:07guard that's around him basically you just take your chainsaw and clip it into
07:09his hands will probably do that a little bit nicer of a job as you jump to the
07:12final looks for the figure but let's not jump right to the end of the review
07:15let's move things out of the way first get a closer look though at leather face
07:18you know I get into like put the two side by side if we're looking at where
07:23the legs meet where the knees meet maybe it could be even like the lower legs
07:27because it almost is it seems as if his knee is lower on the newer figure than
07:32was on the original one the look and the difference between the aprons
07:36obviously it's just a case of you know obviously this one's a little bit more
07:39of a darker brown this one looks more wet like it's a stained in blood the
07:43shirt underneath appears to be the same as well for the tie doesn't look like
07:46they've done anything different there but then when you're looking at the
07:48masks being that this is supposed to be the quote slaughter version he was
07:53already really grimy to start off with you've only just managed more now just
07:57to make him grimier but I feel like unfortunately by making him as grimy as
08:00they did you lose a lot of the finer features of his actual face like it's so
08:06dark unfortunately that it's really hard to make out what's what's really going
08:09on here with Hewitt's face I think it did a better job honestly when we looked
08:13at the original version of Leatherface again you can see it from the sides you
08:16can see it obviously here from the front I don't think really either like the
08:20head is longer I mean obviously if you're looking at this too I'm just
08:23checking out the details myself the little trim that he has below his chin
08:28what's left I guess what's left of his skin you can see looks almost longer on
08:32his neck here and it looks shorter here maybe they are using a brand new head
08:36sculpt whatever it may be the case though if you're putting them back to
08:39back though I mean I've got the feet and everything lined up where I would have
08:43them maybe like the knees do seem like they're higher on the original one but
08:46clearly though it does look like the head is also taller too honestly though
08:51really between looking at the two figures and if only was sold on the idea
08:55that this guy could have had some additional accessories outside of the
08:58norm of what he already had you can't check any of those boxes off because the
09:02original figure this original figure had the display stand it had the chainsaw it
09:07had the sledgehammer it had the interchangeable hands and had also as
09:10well the eye brackets the only thing that you're selling this figure now on
09:14is the idea that it's supposed to look a little more grime here but I feel like
09:17in a case like grime here you're almost underselling the sculpting of the figure
09:21by making his face so dark like this it's hard to really make out what's
09:24exactly going on here and I feel honestly looking at the two I would have
09:28just stuck rather with getting the 2003 cleaner version because it looks a lot
09:32better for Leatherface again if they had only just included one additional
09:36accessory one selling thing that could say well if you already pick up that if
09:40you already have the original version of Leatherface and then you want to look to
09:43get to the slaughter version what we're including this imaginary accessory right
09:47here could be a head could be a limb could be a pale full of guts any one of
09:52those things just to again sell the idea is when we did get the Netflix
09:56version of Leatherface remember he did come with the severed head anyways
10:00though I mean other than just the face looking way too dark the head sculpt is
10:03good but again I so much so so much of it gets lost by the darker coloring of
10:08the paint as for the rest of the outfit I mean again short of just his apron
10:11being little wetter to the look and his gauntlets there the wrappings that he
10:15has around his forearms looking a little bit more soaked in blood there really
10:18isn't a lot to be said differently for this figure that wasn't already
10:21approached already with the 2003 now for this articulation his head's gonna
10:25be on the exact same way of the being of course the ball joint right there so
10:29it's gonna rotate back and forth for all intents and purposes I suppose you could
10:33rotate all the way around the head looks down quite good actually and it looks up
10:36you can also move it back and forth as well shoulders come out beyond the point
10:40of 90 degrees so you're not gonna have any problems there you're gonna have the
10:43ability of course to rotate the arms all the way around but again like the
10:47shortcuts unfortunately for this figure where he comes up short is just the fact
10:50that the figure only has a single hinge in his elbow I know that's the place
10:53where elbows are I mean you can't very well have a joint up here because it
10:56wouldn't make any sense at all although looking though at the the Netflix
11:00version of Leatherface remember this guy did have a double hinge on his elbow so
11:03he had a lot more accommodations when it came to being able to move his arms up
11:06this version of Leatherface because again he's got this part that wraps
11:10around his forearm that takes up what could have been very well a double hinge
11:14where the other hinge would be down here we'd get a lot more mileage out of the
11:17actual bend yes sure he does have the swivel there in the bicep but with only
11:21just having a single hinge you can't even bring really the arms together to
11:25have him properly hold the chainsaw together as you know as two hands
11:28holding the thing together the hands do rotate all the way around the upper
11:32torso I don't know if you guys can actually see so basically this is a
11:34softer piece of plastic that's over top of his existing body the tie is also
11:38something that's separate wanted to make sure I mentioned that as well but you
11:41probably can already see there's a crunch right there behind his apron so
11:44that allows the top top torso to bend back and forth there's also a swivel
11:49there as well the legs split out and they split in such a way obviously the
11:52apron is only gonna be occupying the front of the figure so you can easily
11:55swivel the legs out again like looking at the legs there are a little more on
11:59the soaked side but again like I don't know is that enough really to sell this
12:02figure back and forth on the legs of course the figure does have double hinge
12:04on the knees and he does have the articulation in the ankle all in all
12:08though I mean again looking at this figure is it a good-looking Thomas Hewitt
12:12yes is it though the best Thomas Hewitt that we've gotten though from the
12:16exquisite series I would say no honestly I I would still have stuck with the
12:20original 2003 cleaner version of Thomas Hewitt not only visibly taller but also
12:25visibly cleaner in paint if they maybe wanted just to exist take the existing
12:30figure that we already have which again like I have to kind of question have
12:33they done something different to tweak the mold because obviously this one is
12:36shorter than this one here had it just only been the case that they took this
12:40figure as he is stock out of the packaging splattered on some blood that
12:43could have easily been done and just included a secondary accessory that
12:47wasn't already part of the sledgehammer and combo a chainsaw then we would have
12:51been talking then what there would been obviously mileage's to be made why you
12:54would want to get that figure over top of getting the just having the original
12:57one in your collection but again like to look at that and then look at what we
13:01got here with the leather face from the Netflix series which again will bring
13:03back in the original Netflix which again like whether you like the look of that
13:07mask or not I think hi toys has done a great job on that figure and we are also
13:10getting still supposedly an exquisite super series figure of that love that
13:15leather face I'm really excited for that let's get this guy to stand you know
13:18again like again to look at the figure and then looking at the slaughter
13:21version the slaughter version very visibly did things differently than the
13:25original version of Netflix and a game with the benefit the bonus of an
13:28additional severed head with this version of leather face not having an
13:32additional accessory and again approaching the paint I feel almost way
13:36too dark I feel like if you already have honestly the original 2003 leather
13:40face that might just be fine and good for your collection just to prove that
13:44it is possible you can get both of Hewitt's hands wrapped around the
13:47handles of the chainsaw though it doesn't come with much ease unfortunately
13:50just by the design of the character means he has to sacrifice one hinge
13:54joint in his elbows it wasn't as much the issue when we had a look at the
13:56Netflix version of leather face because his sleeves run so low down that it's
14:00easy to accommodate a double hinge but with this design of character this
14:03leather face has arm guards not to mention has torn off ripped sleeves so
14:07between those two areas you have very little space to work with and it's
14:10probably one of the reasons why Haya toys had to sacrifice one hinge joy but
14:14that sacrifice comes also at the price of not being able to properly hold
14:17things a sledgehammer isn't so much of an issue him holding though a chainsaw
14:21can be a little bit more difficult the chainsaw handle the month one it's
14:25specifically more closer to the blades of the teeth are very soft plastic so
14:29you're already having to contend with a single hinge for the elbows you're also
14:32having to worry about though a pretty soft handled chainsaw that him holding a
14:36chainsaw can be a bit again a very tricky feat the thing about the figure
14:40though is does he need to exist when we did look though at the Netflix and I
14:44continue to go back to that one because that's a good example of how Haya did
14:47things right they took one mold that was already good whether you like that mask
14:51or not and they found two different ways two unique ways of painting the figure
14:55unfortunately though the original leather face from 2003 was already a
14:58good figure to start off with that I felt they didn't need to reinvent the
15:02wheel they only needed really just to take the figure that they already had
15:05splatter some blood across it and maybe add one additional accessory that the
15:09original 2003 leather face never had in the first place and never included an
15:13additional accessory and only just managed to grime up a figure that was
15:16already really grimy to start off with that adding though too much of that so
15:21results in having a figure that's losing a lot of the finer features of his face
15:24it's harder to make out what's really going on in the mask not that you really
15:27could in the first place but the original mask was so much far better I
15:31still also can't land on how the idea of two figures that for all intents and
15:35purposes should have used the same mold and yet though the cleaner 2003 leather
15:38face is visibly taller than the slaughter version we get right here at
15:42the end of it though if you only have a very little shelf space to work with or
15:45available limited available funds I would honestly say if you have the
15:49choice to choose one probably just rather stick with the 2003 cleaner
15:52version of leather face and you'll be happy getting though both of them I
15:56don't feel like you're getting anything beneficial from getting this figure it's
15:59only gonna unfortunately come across coming up not only a little short on
16:03paint but also literally short on size big thank you once again though to the
16:08folks over at Hyatt toys that did provide the sample of the slaughter
16:10version 2003 Thomas Hewitt from Texas Chainsaw Massacre this figure again is
16:14slated to release in September 2024 and it's gonna be going for $24.99 so
16:19about $25 is this a figure based on this review you guys could see yourselves
