00:00As France gears up for the shocking snap elections that French President Emmanuel Macron called on the eve of the EU elections just a few weeks ago,
00:07Germans are preparing for a seismic change in EU politics.
00:11But how could the elections affect Germany?
00:14Professor Dr Miriam Hartlapp says it won't just be the French who can expect change.
00:30But what do Berlin's residents think about the elections?
00:58For me, I identify as a European.
01:00So to me, I do not want any right-wing populist to win any elections.
01:08So if he has a majority right now, I would have just kept it.
01:11So to me, it affects me negatively.
01:13Because I do like Germany and France working together.
01:18And anything that is stopping that process of the European integrity, I look at negatively.
01:26I think it is a difficult choice.
01:29Because it is a risky choice.
01:31But I know that Macron will remain president for another two years.
01:36So I find that reassuring.
01:39But nevertheless, I think the right-wing will continue to be very strong.
01:44I can imagine that the political friendship will be greatly disturbed by this.
01:48I mean, although German politics is usually pretty realistic.
01:52So if you have to work together, you have to work together.
01:55But I think the deeper German-French friendship will not be disturbed by this.
