The man charged over the fatal shooting of police officer Jason Doig in South Australia’s south-east has pleaded not guilty to murder and attempted murder. Jayden Harley Stimson has been remanded to an Adelaide mental health facility and his lawyer says an investigation into his mental competence is continuing.

00:25Mr Stimson is also charged with the attempted murder of Sergeant Michael Hutchinson, who
00:29suffered non-life-threatening injuries when responding to what was believed to be a routine
00:34job.
00:35Mr Stimson's lawyer entered not guilty pleas on behalf of his client.
00:39He says the defence will likely argue he was suffering a psychotic illness at the time
00:43of the shooting.
00:44We're still waiting on a final report from a psychiatrist.
00:47Mr Stimson is being held at mental health facility James Nash House under the state's
00:52Criminal Law Consolidation Act.
00:54In April, Mr Stimson's lawyer asked the court to formally remand his client to the
00:59Oakton facility.
01:00Mr Stimson's been in James Nash House since January.
01:04He's been diagnosed with a psychotic illness, which is likely to be schizophrenia.
01:08Andrew Graham has previously said that Mr Stimson has admitted to the objective elements
01:14of murder.
01:15The 26-year-old will remain in custody and appear in the Supreme Court for arraignment
01:20in September.
