00:00This is an ongoing tornadic storm the day, June 21st, 2023. The state, Colorado. We probably had
00:07half a dozen tornadoes. Tornado after tornado, large tornado ripped across the Northeast Plains,
00:13many of them touching down south of the town of Akron in Washington County.
00:20The first tornado out of this storm was a benign little tube so weak that it rolled over power
00:24lines without damaging them. Moments later, a much larger and stronger tornado touched down
00:31yards in front of my car and churned across the open ranch land. I already couldn't believe my
00:36eyes when a second tornado appeared beside the main tornado, and a third smaller tornado can
00:42be briefly seen touching down off in the distance. We had triplets. Three funnels right now coming
00:48down. This is not typical for Colorado. And this storm was just getting started. A carousel of
00:53tornadoes began to spin down, some small and skinny, others large, each lasting only a few
00:59seconds as the storm spun in the skies above. This is insanity. One of the final tornadoes was this
01:05large multi-vortex twister. This long track tornado churned up vortex after vortex before
01:10it disappeared into the rain. This tornado has been ongoing for the better part of 20 minutes.
01:15In all, 37 tornadoes were recorded in Colorado that day, breaking the old record set back in
01:192000 by 10, 27 of those tornadoes spawning out of the Washington County supercell,
01:25a day for the record books, and for me, the storm chase of a lifetime. One of the most
01:30incredible tornado events in recent memory. For AccuWeather, I'm meteorologist Tony Laubach.
