00:00Let's get started here with some breaking news here on the show.
00:05The most money ever given to a kid playing college basketball in terms of an NIL deal,
00:10that number has been revealed, it happened today, $2 million negotiated for a player.
00:15His name is Coleman Hawkins, if you've never heard of him, you and me both, 6'10", is committed
00:21to play for Kansas State.
00:23And again, $2 million is the most ever given to a player in college basketball, a paid
00:27college basketball player, an NIL deal, and ends up leaving Illinois, going to Kansas
00:33State, and naturally this is a really big deal because it sets the precedent for what
00:37players can potentially get paid in the future.
00:41Have no idea if this will help Hawkins and Kansas State and the Wildcats get to the NCAA
00:45tournament or not, but naturally it'll help the other kids playing college basketball.
00:48All right, well as I mentioned yesterday, it was more of the same.
00:51The Florida Panthers now on the road, go to the Edmonton Oilers and push them around for
00:57a couple of periods before the Oilers woke up, it was too little too late, the final
01:00score was 4-3 in that one, and the Cats are now up 3-0 in the best of seven series.
01:07Now unlike the NBA, there is some precedent for coming back from 0-3, but it doesn't appear
01:12to be the case here, as the Panthers are just the better team in this series.
01:15Sam Reinhart had the first goal with less than a minute to go in the first period, Edmonton
01:20did tie it up at 1, but then the Panthers went up 2-1, and then they went up 3-1, and
01:25then Alexander Barkov scored in the second period to make it 4-1, and then Edmonton came
01:30back, but again, it was too little too late, and the Oilers just don't look like the team
01:34that they look like in the regular season, the Panthers are even getting better as things
01:37go on.
01:38Their goaltender, Sergei Bobovsky, said it was a great win, and no question, to close
01:43out the sweep, it's going to take a huge effort coming up tomorrow night.
01:48Yeah, you know, it's just, we keep staying with the moment, it's obviously a great win
01:55for us tonight, and we enjoy it tonight, and get ready for the next moment.
01:59Yeah, you know, they are a very skillful offensive team, they're smart guys, and they're going
02:04to make plays.
02:06You just focus on each and every moment, and it's a fun challenge, you know, it's a fun
02:10challenge to play against them, because they bring the best, and they make smart plays,
02:15and I think the opponent made a very smart play to pass to him, so it was a great challenge.
02:22I don't know if you guys step up, but I think we will defend well, we will stay together,
02:25we'll protect the house, and just stay patient, and then we take our moments.
02:32As I said, as I said, you know, they are a very high skillful team, and they're going
02:36to make plays, and it's, you know, it doesn't matter what's the score, they're going to
02:39come at you, and you just stay focused and sharp.
02:42They bring the great challenge, and it's fun to play against those guys, definitely.
02:46Thanks, Sergei.
02:47And Bob's done a great job for them, and again, he's going to win the consmife if they end
02:51up closing it out, and winning the next game.
02:53Meanwhile, the best player, supposedly, in the series, Connor McDavid, and very candid
02:58after the game yesterday, basically coming to terms that they're just unable to score
03:03in the way that they did during the regular season, and have to come up with some other
03:06options.
03:07I thought we had lots of looks, I thought the game was right there, and you know, yeah,
03:14just a couple of mistakes, and they found a way to score.
03:17We put a lot of pucks there, you know, I thought we did a good job of getting pucks to the
03:20net, and bodies to the net, you know, you can't score on the outside on these guys,
03:25you've got to get to the middle.
03:26Yeah, I mean, yeah, we're trying to figure them out, obviously, you know, we haven't
03:29beat them in three games, and we've had stretches of good, we've had stretches of bad, you know,
03:36yeah, we're trying to figure them out.
03:41Some days you tip your hat to the goalie, or do you need better shots?
03:43Yeah, I mean, a little bit of both.
03:46Obviously, you've got to have a lot of respect for what he's doing, how he's playing, and
03:50at the same time, I think, you know, I can only speak for myself, but there's looks there,
03:55and you've got to bear down, and you've got to put it in the net, you know, Leon finds
03:57it on the back side, and just don't make the shot, you know, there's looks there, it's
04:02just, you've got to make the shot, you've got to make the play.
04:05Yep, no success for Edmonton, down 0-3 going into tomorrow night.
04:10Well, success has been alluding Trevor Lawrence, since he's been in the NFL as well, you know,
04:15certainly he's played okay, but a lot of discourse on social media yesterday as to
04:20whether or not he deserved to be paid this contract extension that he got.
04:24He becomes the sixth quarterback in NFL history to have an annual salary above $50 million
04:29with this new contract extension, and you know, certainly the 2021 quarterback class
04:34is quite checkered here, when you think about it.
04:36Trevor Lawrence, $275 million in the extension, okay.
04:40After that, you have Zach Wilson, Trey Lance, Justin Fields, and of course, Mac Jones, none
04:44of which who have shown any high level of success.
04:47I don't want to write off Fields yet, because I think that he still could be good.
04:51But Deshaun Watson was $230 million.
04:55His new contract, Trevor Lawrence makes him the ninth quarterback with $100 million or
04:59more guaranteed.
05:00UFC Fight 303, Chandler, Conor McGregor has been canceled, it was supposed to happen on
05:05June 29th.
05:06UFC's Dana White makes the announcement yesterday.
05:09McGregor was scheduled to headline the event, but he withdrew because of an injury, and
05:13it's the first time that Conor McGregor has ever pulled out of a fight for any reason.
05:18Who knows if they'll reschedule it?
05:19The fight was scheduled again for June 29th.
05:23Meanwhile, could the Big 12 change the name of the Big 12?
05:28I guess it's possible, because they're exploring selling the Big 12's naming rights.
05:33How about this?
05:35They distributed nearly $470 million to a member schools in overall distribution last
05:39year, and that number could be even higher.
05:43And right now, it seems as though anything is on the table, and the competitive balance
05:47with all of these conferences could lead to the Big 12 being called something else.
05:51Or maybe the Big 12, fill in the blank.
05:54We just don't know.
05:55So we'll see if all the conferences have sponsorships on them as well.
05:59All right, over at the US Open, right now, Scottie Scheffler not winning.
06:03And by the way, didn't play particularly well in day one.
06:06Day two, Patrick Cantlay has the lead, followed by Rory McIlroy, Lou Big-Oberg, Xander Schauffele,
06:12and Thomas Dietry.
06:14Those are the five at the top of the leaderboard.
06:15Cantlay, five under par.
06:17He is the leader, Rory McIlroy, four under par.
06:19All right, well, the Celtics have now moved to the favorite in the NBA Finals, not for
06:24the series, for the game tonight in Dallas, Boston minus one, total of 2-11.5, as Boston
06:31can make history with a victory this evening.
06:34Meanwhile, Terrence Shannon Jr. has been found not guilty of rape.
06:38A Kansas jury found that the Illinois basketball star not guilty of felony rape and aggravated
06:44sexual assault on Thursday following a week-long trial.
06:49In women's hoops, on the WNBA side, it is a victory for Kaitlin Clark.
06:54That's right, 91-84, the final there, as she and the Indiana Fever defeated the Atlanta
07:01Dream and also the Las Vegas Aces.
07:03Their three-game losing streak comes to an end.
07:05They beat the Phoenix Mercury, the final, 103-99.
07:09In major league baseball, the Atlanta Braves finally get a victory over the Baltimore Orioles.
07:13They won six to three yesterday, so the Braves back on track a little bit.
07:18The Royals needed a walk-off to defeat the Yankees after getting it handed to them the
07:22last couple of days, so they win there.
07:24Garrett Crochet, 13 strikeouts.
07:26My gosh, has he been a sight for sore eyes this season, 13 strikeouts last night and
07:32only one off-speed pitch.
07:33The White Sox haven't had a great year, but Crochet, I would guess, is probably headed
07:37to the All-Star game coming up next month.
07:40And also last night, the New York Mets walked off the Miami Marlins.
07:45Yes, it was a tough one.
07:46Three to two the final there yesterday, Tanner Scott gave it up.
07:49By the way, J.D. Martinez had a long, great career in major league baseball, had never
07:53had a walk-off until last night, so he ended up getting that accomplished last night at
07:58the hands of the Marlins.
07:59Oh, boy.
