Ryan Sargent talks about his move from Fraserburgh to Elgin City
Transcript
00:00The move came about, basically I was playing for Broch week in and week out in the first team and then I got my goals up for the last couple of seasons and then this is the right age and the right time to get a step up into League 2.
00:15So I'm fairly chuffed, I'm just delighted with the move.
00:20Since I was playing as a winger at the start of the season then got changed up front so I can play anywhere in the front three so it'll be exciting to see how Elgin plays me and see the position I play.
00:33It was brilliant because last year I got 15 so now it went to 21 so I'm just chuffed. That's the step up I was needing to get into the SPFL so I'm just looking forward to it.
00:43How much do you know about SPFL football then really? You've played a couple of teams in the Scottish Cup probably.
00:48I've played a couple in the Scottish Cup but when I won a league we played in the little group stages at the start of the season so I've got a rough idea of what the standards are like so I'm looking forward to it.
01:01Do you know any of the guys here?
01:02I know a couple just from playing in the Highland League. Some of the lads from Huntly, someone else was in loan from Strasbourg. I know some of the lads but they're all friendly and welcoming.
01:16Has it always been an ambition for you to step up for Highland League football and play at the highest level you could?
01:20That was always a goal, 100%. The main goal is you have to play as high as you can so when it's your right age, when you're 23, you need to start stepping up because you'll just be stuck in the Highland League if you don't.
01:35You were one of the star players in the Highland League last year and Jack Murray's another one who's come in and won the player of the year. Alan's identified you guys and he wants a largely north-based squad and the best guys available so you must be looking forward to getting going with them?
01:47I'm looking forward to it. Looking forward to training the night and the start of the friendlies and everything just to prove myself in the team because I have to prove a lot at Elegant City because none of the guys really know what I'm about. It's basically getting game time, playing, showing what I'm about and trying to get in the goals as well.
02:07You and Alan go back a fair bit to your days at Maud, is that right?
02:10Yep, that was my first loan from Fraserburgh but I was playing striker when I was under him at Maud so I'm looking forward to playing with him again and managing again.
02:21He's obviously identified you straight away as a player that can fit into his style of play here that he's trying to identify at Elegant. You're another piece of the jigsaw I think.
02:30I just bring something different I think, running him behind quite a lot so we'll see how it goes and hopefully I can prove it here.
