Transcript
00:00Last minute adjustments.
00:02Harvard.
00:04Washington.
00:06California.
00:08Princeton.
00:10Syracuse.
00:12Attention.
00:18Go!
00:20Spring of the first stroke from the Yale crew.
00:28Just if anything looks like that might be
00:34a good start from Cal out there just the other side of Washington.
00:40Yeah to my eye it looks like just our two crews on the far side of the course.
00:43Princeton and Syracuse were a little bit slow off the start.
00:45It's just a few seats that are going to separate those two crews from these other four.
00:49But with everything to play for and the class of these crews in this event, you cannot afford to give up seats at any point in the race.
00:56Tommy Burrell taking his Cal crew off at a pace. You can see what Coach Franzen has said to them.
01:02You've got to be competitive. You've got to lead this Washington crew.
01:06And we've seen that Washington have kept their powder dry in the semifinals.
01:10They have an extra gear when it comes to the first quarter in this final.
01:14And that's what Washington are trying to show.
01:16But Yale on this near side, they are throwing down that first 500 meters.
01:21What a great race we have on our hands, Megan.
01:23Yeah, that's a brave start from the Bulldogs on the near side here.
01:25You can just see the bowman coming onto the picture now.
01:28They're just riding right up with the race leaders, throwing everything in early just to see where it lands them as we get down the track.
01:34But also right with them there, that crew from Harvard as well.
01:37We're crossing into the 500-meter mark, so we're going to throw it over to Fred on the water.
01:42All right, thanks so much. It's very tight.
01:44The only crews that have dropped back at all are Princeton and Syracuse.
01:48Washington was being challenged by Cal for the lead, and now they've got a seat or two.
01:55But Harvard is right next to them, and Harvard has two seats on Yale.
02:00So Princeton's got a little work to do to get back into that pack of four, and Syracuse is a little bit back of the Tigers.
02:11Unlike the JV, Washington has not been able to just ease away.
02:17So as they go through the 750, it's maybe two and a half seats for the Dogs over Harvard and Cal.
02:29Harvard and Cal, I would say give Harvard a seat over Cal right now, and I would say Harvard's taking a press right here.
02:37Harvard at 38 strokes a minute is in second.
02:47Washington not dominant yet, not hiking anything away yet.
02:53As we approach the 1,000, now Washington's starting to get three and a half, four seats over Harvard.
03:01California second. Yale would be, I'm sorry, California third. Yale would be fourth.
03:12But the Tigers are starting to make a move themselves, because the Tigers have to do something right now.
03:2140 strokes a minute for the Tigers.
03:24Watch out for Harvard. Harvard is challenging Washington, and Harvard is taking the rating up.
03:30Oh, I beg your pardon. So they took a big 10 there.
03:36So Harvard and Washington are squeezing away from Cal.
03:44Fantastic race here between Washington and Harvard.
03:49California in third. Yale coming up to challenge Cal now.
03:54Yale could get a bronze here if they can stick in it psychologically and use the rakes.
04:03750 to go. Washington took another press.
04:07Washington is going to be hard to catch.
04:11Washington 39 starting to put on and leave Harvard behind a little bit.
04:18Does Harvard have an answer?
04:24That is a great move. That is a great move there from the Huskies just to close the door for Harvard.
04:31They must have thought that that invitational race at Sarasota where Harvard got them.
04:35But what a fantastic row from the Crimson, Megan.
04:39Yeah, they're just looking really good there in that Harvard boat.
04:41Aren't they just working on executing this sprint to see if there is just a chance that they might be able to walk back on this Husky boat.
04:47But really look at this Husky power rhythm now just moving away from Harvard.
04:52Every single stroke leaving California and the challengers from Yale behind them to duke it out for that bronze medal.
04:58Because it is really all about these two lead crews, Washington and Harvard.
05:02250 meters to go. What have Harvard got?
05:05There's the pain on Max Hyde. The stroke of the Washington.
05:08The Husky absolutely executing the flawless race to perfection.
05:14Mike Callahan, the coach extraordinaire seems to have done it again.
05:18Washington in front. Yale just out of the picture for a medal.
05:23But Harvard in silver. Cal in bronze.
05:26Yeah, it does look like Washington is just going to take this all the way down to the line.
05:29They're not going to be able to take the foot off the gas even a little bit
05:32because Harvard is continuing to charge and push these guys all the way down the course.
05:36With this surge coming now from Cal, we're seeing them finally come to life
05:40and drive themselves back up towards the Washington Huskies.
05:43But it is going to be your 2024 IAA champions and the men's Varsity 8.
05:48The University of Washington holding off that amazing charge from Harvard for your silver medalists.
05:55Followed by a great effort there for bronze.
06:00Yeah, and I think then Syracuse coming in at the back.
06:06Let's get a shot of those Washington guys.
06:10Oops, in he goes.
06:12Okay, that's Josh, John Wang Norton.
