The Gates pub in Shrewsbury is back open serving beer, and will soon be serving food again too. We take a look inside with landlady: Amy.

00:01Good, thank you.
00:02And we're here at The Gates at...
00:04The Gates at Ford.
00:05The Gates at Ford, yeah, just on the border of Shrewsbury there.
00:08And it's been closed for a while, this building, hasn't it, is that right?
00:11Yeah, it's been closed for almost two years now.
00:13And you're responsible for bringing new life back to this building, this beautiful building.
00:19It is a fantastic place, isn't it? It's very large as well.
00:21Just talk us through what we've got here, if people don't know about it.
00:25Yeah, so we've only just opened, we opened last Saturday on the 1st of June.
00:29We're only open for drinks to start with, just to get a feel of the place.
00:33And then we're starting the food on the 1st of July for the grand opening party on the 6th.
00:38What will be happening on the 6th then? What have you got going on for your party?
00:43The 6th we've got tasters going round, little snippets of the menu for people to have a sample of.
00:48We've got music on from 3pm till 9pm at night.
00:52So there's a bit of something for everyone, really.
00:55And you had a nice surprise when you were in here doing the work,
00:58and you kind of pulled some panels off the walls there and revealed these beautiful,
01:01all-night carvings that are on there. That's a nice surprise, isn't it?
01:04Yeah, panelled up was these beautiful carvings, all covered in black boarding.
01:09So that was a lovely surprise.
01:11What's your background then? Are you a local girl?
01:13Yeah, so I've been brought up in pubs. I lived in pubs with my parents.
01:17They run two pubs just down the road in Pondsfury.
01:21And then I took over a pub four years ago in Pondsfury, The Plough.
01:25We've still got that now, but this is just an addition.
01:28Fantastic. And so food from the 1st of July.
01:31So what can people expect on the menu then? What sort of food will it be?
01:35The menu is a traditional pub food, but with a modern twist.
01:39Yeah, and you've got plenty of ales, lagers, you cater for all that kind of stuff.
01:44Is it even a Shropshire Gold?
01:46Shropshire Gold on there, and a Hereford Pale Ale too.
01:51Cool. So are you thinking you'll draw people in from far and wide for this?
01:56Is that the plan? Because it's a country kind of style pub, isn't it?
01:59Yeah, it's very country-fied. Hopefully we'll get a lot of the locals from the village
02:04and then passing trade going to the coast, and also people from Shrewsbury
02:08that just want to come out to the countryside and have a little visit.
02:11Fantastic. I mean, it's only a few minutes in car from the centre of Shrewsbury, isn't it?
02:14What would you say, five, ten minutes, something like that?
02:17Yeah, it's not far at all.
