00:00The president acted today because the Congress has failed to act.
00:04There was a bipartisan Senate deal that was negotiated over four months with the president
00:09and his team, Senator James Lankford, Senator Chris Murphy, and Senator Kyrsten Sinema,
00:15that really would have done a tremendous amount to bring order to the border.
00:19Now, I personally, just speaking for myself, would have liked to see more things in that
00:23bill, including a pathway to citizenship for DACA recipients and TPS and things like that.
00:30But I said I would support that bill because we need to bring order to the border.
00:33It's a very big concern for the American people.
00:37And that deal, which was endorsed by the president and by many of us here and many others, was
00:44sabotaged when Donald Trump came out and said, I don't want to give Biden a victory.
00:48I want to run on the chaos.
00:50And as a result, we didn't get a bipartisan deal on the border.
00:55Now the president has stepped up, taken this bold action to address the asylum problem.
01:03The asylum system is still intact.
01:06Let's make sure we have that understanding.
01:08What this is doing is managing an influx where the resources don't exist because our colleagues
01:14across the aisle have failed to act.
01:17And certainly this isn't perfect.
01:19But as Representative Suozzi said, we would have liked to have seen a lot of other things
01:24that I believe the president is going to be acting on in the near future.
01:28And so this provides security, provides humanitarian solution to the influx of people being brought
01:37by smugglers, posing threats to their lives.
01:41This is going to help us secure the border and at the same time provide an opportunity
01:47for people to safely apply through various offices that the office that the president
01:54has opened up throughout Latin America, creating a safe approach for those seeking asylum and
02:01really managing the situation at the border.
02:07I applaud the president for taking strong, decisive action to do something that BS partisan
02:15politics killed earlier this year.
02:17And that's what the American public is sick of.
02:20They're sick of hearing stories about, hey, kill this bill because if we cure disorder
02:26at the border, it's going to help the sitting president.
02:30People are tired of that crap.
02:32People are sick of it.
02:33And I applaud the president for doing the right thing and making this executive order
02:39today because I believe, I truly believe that it's going to help.
02:43Congress, we need to step up and we need for Republicans to actually help us and not keep
02:49playing partisan politics.
