00:00 So, everyone knows Wonder Woman, right? She's one of DC's most iconic characters. But the
00:04 version that we see on the big screens of Diana Prince that we all know and love
00:08 isn't the only version of the character that exists, not by a long shot. So let's take a
00:12 look at some of the weirder, the wackier, and the more WABBIT-based. As I'm Jules,
00:16 this is WhatCulture.com, and these are 10 Insane Alternate Versions of Wonder Woman
00:20 You Won't Believe Exist.
00:22 10. Wonder Wabbit
00:24 Believe it or not, Wonder Wabbit isn't even the only animal iteration of Wonder Woman in this
00:28 list, although it is definitely the cuddliest. And as you might have guessed it, she is a bunny
00:33 rabbit version of Diana Prince. The problem with the series was that it didn't lean hard enough
00:37 into the animalization of its cast. Wonder Wabbit's powers have nothing rabbit-like about
00:42 them. No powerful jumps, night vision, or increased hearing at all. So what exactly is the point of
00:46 this then? Even Batmouse or Hawk Moose, both coming equipped with two animals to riff off,
00:51 didn't go anywhere with it. A bit more commitment would have certainly helped this little wabbit out.
00:55 9. Aurora Monroe
00:57 In a 1996 crossover event between Marvel and DC, Aurora Monroe, better known as Storm of the X-Men,
01:03 became that reality's version of Wonder Woman. On the surface, they seem like a decent fit to
01:08 amalgamate. With similar morals and leadership qualities, her origin is rather different here
01:12 as well. As she's seen drowning in the Hudson before Queen Hippolyta saves her and takes her
01:17 home, raising her as an Amazonian princess. As she gets older, it becomes clear that her mutation
01:22 gives her the ability to control the weather, something the Amazons help her train. It's a
01:27 nice combination of the two characters, as this version of Wonder Woman keeps the lasso of truth,
01:31 but it's made from Storm's own harnessed lightning bolts. Despite these powers, though,
01:35 she must still keep her meta-mutant status a secret, while the Mars Storm wears it on her
01:40 sleeve more proudly. Eventually, though, she joins the Justice League X-Men and settles well. Once
01:45 Aquamariner leaves - no prizes for guessing who he's an amalgamation of - she even becomes the
01:49 JLX's leader. 8. The Blue Amazon
01:53 Back in 2003, DC published three Elseworld comics for DC's biggest heroes, Wonder Woman,
01:58 Batman, and Superman. For reasons known only to the writers themselves, each comic was based
02:03 on a classic German movie. Now, all of this sounds like a bizarre idea, but they actually pulled it
02:07 off pretty well. Also, while most people might not instantly be able to name much German cinema,
02:11 Nosferatu, used for Batman, and Metropolis, for Superman, are fairly recognisable movies.
02:16 With Batman lurking in the shadows and Superman's regular city being Metropolis anyway,
02:20 both of them seem like fairly sensible picks. But the inspiration for Diana's story is a little
02:24 less well-known, being the 1930 flick The Blue Angel. Like all three of the Elseworld collection,
02:30 it mixes a few other movies in there as well, mainly Metropolis itself, which is used to
02:34 thematically tie the whole trilogy together. In this story, Diana is an amnesiac with no
02:39 recollection of her past, and is working as an exotic dancer. It's certainly not a typical
02:44 Wonder Woman story, but if you're looking to see the character in a completely different scenario,
02:48 then look no further.
02:49 7. Becca
02:51 Becca is one of DC's new gods, and though she isn't the most famous of characters,
02:55 she's often seen helping the good guys and occasionally has featured heavily in several
02:59 storylines. However, the movie Justice League Gods and Monsters cast her in the starring role,
03:04 but with a bit of a twist. This was a parallel Becca, and she wasn't like the Wonder Woman of old.
03:09 This Becca is part of a brutal Justice League keeping order on Earth. She takes the title of
03:14 Wonder Woman, while General Zod's son becomes this universe's Superman, and Dr. Kurt Langstrom
03:19 becomes their Batman. It transpires that rather than a full-on evil version of Wonder Woman,
03:23 which has plenty of those to come in the list, Becca and the rest of this league have simply
03:27 just gone too far. They're good people at heart, and much of the movie is about unwinding their
03:32 conspiracies around them and correcting their past mistakes. It does seem a little bit like
03:36 her title and good nature means she gets away with not being held accountable, but at least
03:40 in the end she does the right thing. 6. Diana the Albino Ape
03:44 Justice League of America The Island of Dr. Moreau is a mashup of, well, you figure it out. Dr. Moreau
03:50 is a classic character by H.G. Wells, a mad scientist who transforms people into animals,
03:54 believing it to be the next stage of human evolution. In this story, he doesn't actually
03:58 capture the real Justice League, hence how he's still alive, really, but instead has an army of
04:02 creatures that are similar to them. These include Jabutus the Cheetah for The Flash, Falconus the
04:07 Hawk for Hawkman, and Diana the Albino Ape as the stand-in for Wonder Woman. Being a gorilla,
04:12 it certainly isn't the typical portrayal of Wonder Woman, but she's actually closer in personality
04:16 than many others featured here, as the story revolves around them being sent to Victorian
04:20 London, and it only gets stranger from there. The team of manimals are investigating Jack the Ripper,
04:25 who features heavily in the next entry as well. Here they discover that Jack is another one of
04:29 Dr. Moreau's creations, and turn on each other while questioning the nature of their own existence.
04:34 Like the classic novel it spins off from, it's a lot deeper than the premise suggests.
04:38 5. Victorian
04:40 The Victorian version of Wonder Woman is from a series called Amazonia, which is set in an
04:44 alternate version of the era, but the steampunk is cranked up to 11. Set between 1888 and 1928,
04:51 it offers a fresh look at Diana, who we usually see in either ancient or mythological times,
04:55 or even in our present era leaning towards the future. It helps that most people have a fairly
04:59 clear picture of the Victorian era, rather than scratching our heads like we would do with a
05:03 Byzantine or late Queen era story. The stunning steampunk visuals certainly help build up the
05:08 image for us too, that this story is going to be something very different from the off.
05:12 Queen Victoria and her family have been murdered by Jack the Ripper, who, being of royal blood
05:16 himself, ascends to become king. His rule is harsh and misogynistic, and is assisted by a
05:21 now-villainous Steve Trevor. Diana is captured by Trevor and forced to marry him, performing
05:26 biblical stories at the theatre. She eventually adopts the title of Wonder Woman and leads an
05:30 uprising against Jack with Jack's own son, Charles.
05:33 4. Bizarro
05:35 Any list of unbelievable versions of DC characters is likely to include a Bizarro
05:39 version, and Wonder Woman is no different. But just a brief history of Bizarro first.
05:44 The initial two versions were failed Superman clones by Lex Luthor, but we're focusing on the
05:49 third iteration here. He has nothing to do with Lex at all, aside from inspiration. Bizarro 3 is
05:54 still based off of Superman, but was created by the Joker using fifth dimensional powers.
05:59 To oversimplify, he's Superman with Joker's imagination. All of his creations speak with
06:03 slurred, broken grammar, have ashen grey and pockmarks, skin and limbs which don't quite fit
06:08 properly. But they're more than just hollow zombies though, because Bizarro creatures have
06:12 some internal logic. They speak in opposites, so saying 'I love you' means 'I hate you' and
06:17 vice versa. Some people love the Bizarros and some hate them. Bizarro, though, was pretty great.
06:22 3. Crime Syndicate of America
06:25 The Crime Syndicate of America, often shortened to the CSA, are a parallel universe version of
06:30 the Justice League, only evil. Just like the regular Justice League, they also have a Wonder
06:34 Woman, but she is very different in more ways than one. She goes by the name of Superwoman here,
06:39 but it's clearly a riff off of Diana rather than Clark, with his CSA equivalent named Ultraman.
06:44 She gains her powers from her universe's Amazons by killing them all, and as a result,
06:48 her power set is almost identical to Wonder Woman's. One of the few differences is that
06:53 rather than the lasso of truth, it instead forces its victims to admit humiliating or dangerous
06:57 secrets. It's an ingenious little twist that still utilises the truth-telling power,
07:02 but in a much more sinister way. Interestingly, though, we don't actually learn her real name,
07:06 as she goes by the alias of Lois Lane and is married to Ultraman. However,
07:10 she frequently and openly cheats on him with Owlman, which is their version of Batman,
07:14 showing yet again how twisted and sordid the crime syndicate really is.
07:18 2. Straight Up Nazi
07:20 Another Elseworld tale, this one, Whom Gods Destroy, features two versions of Wonder Woman,
07:25 although the first is far more unbelievable. Set in the not-so-cheery future where the Third
07:30 Reich never fell, this world is currently under Nazi rule, with the Amazons by their side.
07:35 Adonis has replaced Hitler as the Führer, with Artemis and Athena opposing him. However,
07:39 Wonder Woman herself betrayed Paradise Island for power, and is now in league with Adonis and the
07:44 Nazis, even wearing a swastika on her tiara. Lois Lane becomes embroiled in the story,
07:49 and is given Athena's powers to become a Wonder Woman of her own. The two battle,
07:53 and just like in real life, good triumphs evil, and the Nazi Wonder Woman is defeated.
07:57 Lois, now the reigning Wonder Woman champ, celebrates her victory by moving to the moon
08:02 to live in a polyamorous lesbian relationship with Lana Lang and Superman, who is turned
08:06 female by witchcraft during the course of the story, but only after he'd also been turned into
08:10 a horse. As happy endings go, I didn't see that coming, but at least they're having a great time.
08:15 1. Flashpoint
08:17 Now Flashpoint Wonder Woman just crosses the line in ahead of Nazi Wonder Woman as the most insane
08:22 version of the character to date. A lot of these new styles revolve around her turning villainous
08:26 in some way, but this one goes to new extremes. In this alternate reality, Diana is a brutal and
08:32 bloodthirsty dictator, holding her country steadily under her boot. Unlike some other bad guy Wonder
08:38 Woman versions, Flashpoint Diana takes a great deal of pleasure in her cruelty, not caring who
08:43 she harms. She seduces Aquaman, but when questioned on it by his wife, she chops the Atlantean's head
08:48 off and sends it to Aquaman as a gift. This kicks off a war between Atlantis and the Amazons,
08:53 a conflict that she relishes in. Aquaman floods Europe to claim for Atlantis, while Diana takes
08:58 up territory on the remaining dry land. This conflict goes on to cause the death of over 30
09:03 million people between Ireland and Russia. Innocent bystanders aren't the only ones caught up in the
09:07 conflict, either. Steve Trevor, Wonder Woman's long-time love interest, is choked to death by
09:12 Diana's bare hands. Seriously, this one has to be seen to be believed.
