We catch up with a young lady who's going from strength to strength on the ice rink. She's only 10 now and has been skating since she was 5, with at least 4 sessions a week on the ice. She just came back from the home of British Skating in Sheffield with a first place medal.

00:00 So we're here in Hensford, Cannock and Georgia how you doing?
00:05 Good.
00:06 And the clue is the ice skates on the set here. You're a bit of an ice skating fan then yeah?
00:12 Yeah.
00:13 And that's a fancy medallion you've got round there. Just fill us in on what that's all about. You've just competed haven't you?
00:20 Yeah I did a competition at Sheffield and I won first place.
00:24 First place, not bad.
00:25 Thank you.
00:26 So how old were you when you started skating and what was it that got you into it?
00:30 Five and I don't really know I just wanted to do it.
00:34 Yeah. So none of your family are skaters are they?
00:37 No.
00:38 I wonder if it was something you saw on TV or what? Can you remember?
00:41 Not really it might have been.
00:43 Yeah. And so when you first went, when people first go skating normally if it's anything like when I went they fall over lots, get a wet bum on the ice and I never went back.
00:55 Did you keep falling over the first few times?
00:57 Yeah I did because that's just what happens.
01:01 Yeah it didn't put you off then?
01:02 No.
01:03 Well you're a braver and more determined person than me. So what is it that you enjoy about skating then?
01:10 You know what is it, how does it make you feel when you're out there on the ice? What is it that you get from it?
01:15 It's good because you're like, you're just skating and you can be yourself.
01:20 Yeah. Do you find it kind of, it just blocks out the whole world, it's just you and the ice, it's almost like relaxing as well.
01:29 Yeah.
01:30 And you do lots of training, you have to go over to Solihull now don't you, is that right?
01:34 Yeah.
01:35 So how many times a week are you training?
01:37 I don't know, four.
01:40 Four times a week?
01:41 Yeah.
01:42 It's all a blur, the school training. So that's a big commitment, it's a lot of time you have to put into it then.
01:50 Yeah.
01:51 And I understand your school help a little bit don't they on one of the training days, is that right?
01:55 Yeah because sometimes I go out early on one of the days.
02:00 Fantastic. And there used to be a skating rink here in Cannock but sadly that's closed now but it wouldn't have quite fitted your needs.
02:07 I guess you need a big space when you're doing these routines don't you?
02:10 Yeah because you're just going around the whole rink.
02:13 Yeah and you have to have fancy outfits, I'm loving this one.
02:16 Yeah.
02:17 How does it go about picking your music then, how do you kind of decide what music to do a performance to?
02:23 Well it depends on what type of skater you are and what music you like and then you have to get it cut to fit how you skate.
02:31 So there's different types of skating then?
02:34 Yeah you could be like more elegant and flowy or like fast or slower because I'm more of a faster skater.
02:42 Okay and you've just found that's where your heart is kind of with it yeah?
02:46 So what would you like to do in the future in terms of your skating then?
02:50 You don't look like you're about to give up you know, you've just got your first position in a competition.
02:55 Well right now I'll carry on doing competitions but I hope to become an ice skating coach in the future.
03:02 Oh wow okay, that's cool.
03:04 Well we wish you all the best then, have you got any other dates of competitions on the horizon?
03:08 Anything else coming up?
03:10 I will have some more but I'm not sure when.
03:12 Yeah well we wish you all the best in those Georgia.
03:14 Thank you.
03:15 A face to watch for the future, well done Georgia.
