Transcript
00:00 Hello, it's Richard Hunt with some of the latest headlines.
00:02 A road in Bisbon was set to be closed for some time following a crash today.
00:07 Emergency services were called to a collision on Devonshire Road at approximately midday today.
00:13 The road was subsequently closed from the junction of Crawford Avenue to the roundabout
00:18 with Redbank Road and Bisbon Road and motorists were advised to check their latest details about
00:24 the opening of the road. Residents described their concern of how a fire which spread to a neighbouring
00:30 property in Preston could spark further ahead of firefighters arriving to put it out. Homeowners
00:36 on the street in Preston were in shock after a fire broke out at a property early this morning.
00:42 At 7.32am, three fire engines from Preston and Pemwitham were called out to the incident on
00:47 Shelley Road. There were no injuries but there was significant damage within the bedroom as
00:53 crews have been at the scene since this morning carrying out the relevant safety checks. Despite
00:58 the blaze being contained, the public were urged by Lancashire Fire and Rescue to steer clear of
01:04 the road for their own safety. In Wigan, the Trussell Trust handed out thousands of emergency
01:15 food parcels last year, new figures show. It comes as support provided across the UK reached record
01:22 high levels with a charity calling on the government to build a future where no food banks
01:27 were needed to survive. The national charity operates almost 1,700 distribution centres
01:34 where those referred can receive nutritious emergency food. The latest figures show 5,001
01:40 emergency food parcels were handed out to people in need across its four locations in Wigan in the
01:47 year to March. However, this was down from 6,844 the year before. A suspected drink driver was
01:59 arrested after two people were hospitalised following a car crash on the M6 near Hampton.
02:04 Emergency services were called after an Audi A3 and a Ford Cougar collided just before junction 8
02:12 at around 9.45 on Monday. A woman in her 50s was taken to hospital with a wrist injury as well as
02:19 a man in his 50s. Subsequently, a 53-year-old man has since been arrested on suspicion of drink
02:25 driving with excess alcohol, a spokesman for Lancashire Police said. Anyone with information,
02:32 CCTV or dashcam can contact police by calling 101 and quoting log 0326 of May 27th.
02:42 And the Central Music Festival has enjoyed record advance ticket sales ahead of its 2024 festival
02:49 which runs from June 16th to 27th in the picturesque Marquette Town.
02:54 The festival, which has taken place every two years since the turn of the Manelian,
02:59 announced its ambitious schedule in January, as well as a host of local talent. Its schedule
03:04 includes the likes of BBC Singers, one of the world's finest chamber choirs, and Ulverston-born
03:11 Jess Gilliam, who first became known when she won the BBC Young Musician of the Year.
03:17 The weather? It's going to be cloudy and overcast for the rest of the day. Thank you.
