02:56 where it was the conclusion that we all feared as Leeds United's season
03:01 has ended with defeat in the play-off final against Southampton,
03:04 for whom a 1-0 victory has sent them back to the Premier League
03:07 at the first attempt and the only goal of the game.
03:09 No surprise who got that, Adam Armstrong, who was favourite to score first.
03:13 And to be quite honest, a result that is pretty hard to argue with,
03:17 even though Leeds did come very close at the end.
03:20 When Dan James hit the crossbar, I think it speaks volumes that Dan James,
03:24 who only came on well over halfway through the second half,
03:28 was probably Leeds' best player and obviously wasn't even on the pitch for that long.
03:32 And just one of those games where the Whites that have blown teams away this season
03:37 just didn't turn up on this occasion.
03:39 And that's now a hat-trick of victories for Southampton against them this season.
03:43 So in a way, it is no surprise that they got the job done.
03:46 They just seem to have Leeds' number.
03:48 And you say congratulations to them for going up and obviously now the inquest
03:52 will go into Leeds United's season.
03:54 I mean, to me, it really felt like it went wrong when they missed out on all the back promotion,
03:58 to be quite honest. It was in their own hands with a few games to go.
04:01 And sealing that would have been easier, obviously, than going up through the playoffs.
04:04 We know, obviously, the club's history in that.
04:06 That's now six attempts of the playoffs without going up through them.
04:10 And back in the Championship now next season, and the gut feeling really is,
04:13 is that if Leeds are going to get out of that division, they need to go up in the top two.
04:16 So that will obviously be the aim next season.
04:18 Of course it will, but obviously questions will go on now throughout the summer.
04:22 And there's bound to be lots of ins and outs, which will be a lot harder for Leeds to deal with
04:25 as a Championship club than if they were in the Premier League.
04:28 But they're not in the Premier League. That's now a million miles away at the moment.
04:31 And as I say, in terms of this game, they did start quite well.

04:45 Got a few chances early on, but they were not like brilliant chances really,

04:53 And then in the end, it was just a through ball from Will Smallbone behind the back line,
04:57 caught out, Mampadu.
04:59 And, you know, it was basically one on one, one touch, bang, far corner.
05:03 1-0, as soon as he went through, you kind of thought he'd score.
05:05 I think he had 21 goals before, at the end of the season, 24 it is now,
05:10 and that was the 24th minute. And as I say, that proved the only goal of the game.
05:13 Leeds were off the puff, they tried to get back into it.
05:15 Second half, they had lots of possession, loads of possession,
05:17 but didn't really do anything with it.
05:19 Few chances, but nothing particularly amazing.
05:21 As I say, Dan James came on, absolutely thunderous strike from him
05:25 that rattled the underside of the bar.
05:26 That was the sort of decisive moment, if you like.
05:28 That was inches away, obviously, from going in.
05:30 But it didn't. A clash of heads with Dan James.
05:32 I think it was 11 minutes added time in the end.
05:34 But, I mean, Southampton really, apart from the odd foray,
05:36 saw it out relatively without alarm.
