00:00 Well, people can expect a spectacular event of lights, food and music officially kicking
00:06 off here at Campbell's Cove at 5.30 tonight.
00:09 Now, there's something for everyone at Vivid from art installations to 3D light projections,
00:16 lighting up some of our most iconic venues like the Sydney Harbour Bridge and the Sydney
00:21 Opera House.
00:22 And the Sydney Opera House is actually one of the main centrepieces of the festival and
00:27 this year they'll be showcasing work from award-winning artist Julia Goodman.
00:33 She spoke to News Breakfast a little earlier this morning about the meaning of her artwork
00:38 that will be displayed on the cells of the Opera House.
00:40 Let's take a quick listen to what she had to say.
00:44 Always also hesitant to over-prescribe meaning.
00:46 I think it is this kind of beautiful open-ended narrative, but loosely it follows the story
00:52 of Echo, who is a character in the Greek myth of Narcissus and Echo.
00:58 But it's really sort of her journey through her own internal landscape and I think it's
01:02 a story about kind of coming to terms with yourself, self-reflection, compassion and
01:09 yeah, I guess introspection.
01:13 Now if you're a foodie, there'll also be lots of market-style stalls spread right across
01:18 the city CBD as well as culinary dining experiences if you're looking for a special night out.
01:23 And if you're a fan of home-grown music, there'll be live performances from performers like
01:30 First Nations artists Budra and Jem Kassar-Daly and there'll be a mix of live and paid events
01:36 that people can experience.
01:38 Now event organisers have said last year there was over three million people who attended
01:44 Vivid last year, so the advice this year is to really plan your trip ahead before coming
01:49 into the city because there will be road closures and limited car spaces and the event will
01:54 be running until June 15, seven days a week.
01:57 So with many of us challenged with this cost of living crisis at the moment, it really
02:02 makes a fun, family-friendly, affordable night out.
