00:02 If you were coming of age in the 1980s,
00:04 the Brat Pack was near the center of your cultural awareness.
00:08 But for those of us experiencing it from the inside,
00:12 the Brat Pack was something very different.
00:14 [music]
00:16 On June 10, 1985, New York Magazine published Hollywood's Brat Pack.
00:21 I just remember seeing that cover and thinking,
00:24 "Oh, f***."
00:26 [music]
00:28 From then on, my career and the career of everyone who was involved
00:32 was branded to the Brat Pack.
00:34 [music]
00:35 I'm really sorry that article had to come out.
00:37 I've never talked to anybody about what that was like.
00:40 So I thought it might be interesting to try and contact
00:43 everyone who was in the Brat Pack.
00:45 Hey, Emilio Estevez. This is Andrew McCarthy calling you.
00:48 Hey, Ali.
00:49 Hey, Demi.
00:49 Hey, Molly.
00:50 Let's call Rob.
00:52 Hello? Judd?
00:53 [music]
00:55 Me? You around?
00:56 [laughter]
00:58 You were not interested in talking about the Brat Pack for years.
01:02 I turned everything down.
01:03 How come you're talking to me?
01:04 Because you called me.
01:05 It was time that we clear the air on a couple things.
01:07 [music]
01:08 I love your stuff, Bob.
01:09 Hey, thank you.
01:10 I hated the Brat Pack for decades.
01:12 What a f***ing disaster.
01:14 [music]
01:14 If you could have the Brat Pack name not exist, would you?
01:19 [music]
01:20 Hm.
01:21 [music]
01:21 It really irritated me.
01:23 They said, "What's more important to you, the movie or your life?"
01:26 And I said, "The movie!"
01:28 Andrew?
01:28 [laughter]
01:29 [music]
01:34 Have you talked to the others?
01:35 The others? Like, again, it feels like a cult or something.
01:38 Yeah.
01:38 [music]
01:41 Why did we take it as an offense?
01:43 As opposed to, like, the Brat?
01:44 Because we were young.
01:45 We're afraid we were Brat, you know?
01:47 Are you in the Brat Pack?
01:48 I'm Brat Pack of Jason.
01:49 That's what I would say.
01:51 I am not in the Brat Pack.
01:53 [music]
01:55 Did I crush on you back in the day?
01:56 You did not, Andrew.
01:58 No, you did not.
01:59 Being in the Brat Pack not only changed all of our lives, it changed what entertainment is.
02:03 I mean, I'm not going to say we were the Beatles or any of those guys.
02:05 Well, we didn't kill Shea Stadium.
02:06 There were moments.
02:07 We could have.
02:08 1985?
02:10 I think we could have.
02:11 [music]
02:16 So what are you filming?
02:17 Oh, we're just doing this documentary.
02:19 What's it about?
02:20 Ancient history.
