00:00The New Look City Square in the heart of Leeds is set to host an outdoor events
00:05programme this summer, marking the conclusion of works to transform it into
00:09a pedestrianised area. It will be the home to Thor's teepee bar, a monthly artisan
00:14market and a selection of family-friendly activities.
00:18This is our first summer residency in City Square and particularly excited
00:23because it's not been used in summer before, this is the first summer that
00:26it's sort of been unleashed to the public as a pedestrianised area, which
00:30absolutely is right for using and perfect for events and hopefully we'll
00:35be able to draw some exciting football to the city. We'll have a teepee with one
00:40of our famous fire pits inside so people will be toasting, but we'll also have
00:45some giant outdoor games, we've got table tennis, connect four, Jenga and
00:49importantly we're also going to have a big screen so you'll be able to watch
00:54all the sports throughout the summer, from the Olympics to Wimbledon, Tour de
00:59France to the football and even right the way through to the end of August for
01:03the Paralympics, so it should be a jam-packed summer. The little bird made
01:08artisan village will run throughout the summer, complementing the recently
01:11announced market on Brigitte, with Thor's teepee set to open from the 14th of June
01:16through to the 8th of September with no cost to the council. I've loved working
01:21in Leeds, the people are what makes Leeds so special, they're so friendly and I've
01:25worked in a lot of cities across the country, so I just absolutely love it and
01:29I think what you're doing here in terms of pedestrianising areas so that people
01:33can really enjoy them, it's quite special, you don't see that everywhere, but
01:37there's also tons of development and optimism going on in the city, which
01:42is just fabulous to see, so we're delighted to be a part of that. Other
01:46events scheduled for City Square over the coming year include the installation
01:50of a new artwork, the Yorkshire Sustainability Festival and the return
01:54of Light Night Leeds, as well as Christmas events at the end of the year.
