00:00 Historically, Cardiff has been at the centre of world trade. At one point it exported more
00:05 than half of the world's coal and was a pivotal part of the industrial revolution.
00:10 The industrial past of Cardiff has meant it has a sprawling network of canals, a network
00:14 that has been covered for decades.
00:17 That was until 6 months ago this week. Cardiff's canal quarter opened and provided a massive
00:21 revamp to a part of town that was basically just a taxi drop off.
00:26 It now has the exposed canal which used to just sit underneath the concrete. It's got
00:30 benches, a shaded area and gives people who are visiting the centre or people on their
00:35 lunch break a perfect place to just sit and take it all in.
00:39 The plans were controversial with plenty of money spent on it but since has been welcomed
00:43 by people in the city as a nod to our history and a new place giving the city centre an
00:48 extra part to visit and enjoy.
00:51 The first 6 months of the new canal's life have been pretty wet so the last few weeks
00:55 people have finally been able to enjoy it and they certainly have been out in numbers.
